I hope so, too, but I guess who knows? Sakurai loves breaking conventions, rules, and expectations. I wouldn't believe in it happening, but you really never know.

If he starts giving us hints at another rep or more Smash stuff in general, I'll be very intrigued, indeed. He's proven not to be infallible, given he got some of the Hero info wrong, but his track record is otherwise proven solid now.
If anything, the fact that he got minor details wrong almost makes me believe him more - it's entirely conceivable that, because he leaked Erdrick so long ago, he got his information extremely early in the development process, and the details that turned out differently were simply reworked along the way. If nothing else, he certainly believes his source's accuracy, considering he had no qualms about doubling/tripling down on what he was told.
It's times like this that I'd really wish they would just release the ballot totals. Because every non-ballot poll result I've seen cuts off at like 30 or so and the only DQ rep to make that cut that I've seen is Slime a few times.
The way things are going I would bet on 1 rep from a Japanese company and 1 from an American one if not just 2 from Japanese devs. At this point I'm actually thinking every FP character will be very different than the others in terms of what game they're coming from. We have Hero representing the classic JRPG, Joker representing new-age JRPGs/social simulators, and Banjo representing 3D collectathon adventure games. I think the next most likely rep will be someone from Resident Evil like Jill Valentine representing survival horror games with character swaps for Leon, Clair, and Chris. Hopefully more like Jill's moveset in MvC2 where she summoned zombies and zombie dogs and not too gun heavy. It'd also give the pass a female character. I'm also thinking we're getting Crash Bandicoot because having the Sony mascot finally in Smash would I think be the biggest way to finish off the FP. Either Crash or something incredibly unexpected like unironically Sans from Undertale. And yeah yeah I know Shovel Knight didn't make it in and neither did Shantae, but it's the type of wtf choice I could see Sakurai and Nintendo making at this point.
When did Bethesda discuss with Nintendo about a Smash character? All I have ever heard about was that they weren't opposed to the idea.

Tbh if it's not RE as the Capcom rep I would say it's likely Phoenix Wright. I'm just making this prediction based on purely aesthetic and genre differences between the characters in the FP. It's also why I don't think a Tales rep seems as likely at this point even with the rumors around Lloyd. But hey I could be completely wrong and you get Phoenix Wright and Tales fans get Lloyd.
Right now the only 'leak' out there advertised enough has the last two be Leon Kennedy or Jill Valentine and Lloyd (the others were Joker, Banjo and Erdrick). However, as that damned 5chan leak showed us, they may not have the full DLC list this early.

I was thinking the exact same thing. There's going to be stupid amounts of pressure considering the hype after Banjo getting dropped. The only three characters I could think of that people would go crazy for are Geno, Sephiroth and Master Chief. I think Nintendo would effectively match expectations with those considering the insane fan followings of each, especially the latter two when it comes to gaming culture in general. The biggest catch though, is that I doubt the fighter pass would get away with being so Square Enix-heavy. Still, if they end the entire DLC cycle with something like Piranha Plant, there's going to be riots in the streets.
If you're going to be so defensive over disliking Nintendo's choice of characters, why did you commit to a year's worth of DLC without knowing any of its contents? That's a decision you make only if you're willing to accept whatever those contents may be, as a responsible consumer, no?

Seems to me like you're not too easy to please, which makes me wonder why you bought the Fighter Pass so early.
We say nothing is stopping him by honestly I think the only person stopping Sakurai is himself. Right now all Sakurai is doing when it comes to Geno is compromise. He compromise with Square to make the Geno Mii Costume in Smash 4, which is understandable since Smash 4 and the Wii U were at the end of it's life cycle. Now Smash Bros Ultimate comes along and he's making compromise to have Geno in as a Spirit. There might be an obligation of choosing a certain amount of character from each company since Nintendo was the one that came up with the list and they're probably going to try and get other series represented. Looking at the amount of content that they got for Dragon Quest in Smash Bros must have cost a lot, so there's a good chance that Sakurai and Nintendo want to move on to another company for a different character than coming back to Square Enix for Geno in this current Fighters Pass. Plus again we know from leakers that there was only one Square Enix planned for DLC, and that happen to be Dragon Quest. They're not going back for Geno, Sakurai going to think that the compromise he made for the Spirit and the upcoming Mii Costume was more than enough to satisfy the fans (mostly because he is pretty disconnected from the fanbase). I would love for Geno to be in, but I think we got to accept the fact that Sakurai never intended to make Geno playable and is contempt with just referencing Super Mario RPG if Piranha Plant is any indications (such as it's victory screen in Classic Mode and reference to a SMRPG Boss in it's Palutena's Guidance).
Hopefully that’s the case.
I was thinking about it too but I think I'm going to hold off at this point. I already bought Joker as well, and tbh I'm just not very interested in Hero. Like I'm trying to make myself excited by looking at his gameplay and am just not really. I might try him out on a friend's system and see if I feel more positively after he releases. At this point it feels like I'd be buying him for the sake of having all the characters rather than actually wanting to play him. I'd be fine with buying Banjo and the other two characters separately if I like them as well.
I actually just purchased the Trilogy myself yesterday, despite having beaten the first three games innumerable times, as a sort of summoning ritual for our boy in blue. If I give Capcom enough money, do you think they'll grant me a wish?
To be completely honest I don't especially want any character other than Geno at this point. Like, I'm sure there are characters that I like and maybe even am not a fan of that could be made to look really cool in Smash, but at this point I'm not really invested in any other character getting in now that Banjo is finally in.
You most likely still can buy the whole pass, it just means you’ll lose money, as they won’t give any discount for buying joker originally. Chances are it’ll let you buy the pass right up until you only have one character left to buy. You’d still be getting a better deal however by getting the pass now.
For both cases I hope so if we can get our boys in blue for Smash that would be great. Phoenix Wright and Geno in Smash? I would absolutely adore that and the music both could bring would be absolutely fantastic.
I agree with you though, Geno is my main priority when it comes to Smash but if he is indeed out then I'd probably move over to Phoenix. Still, Geno is my main priority.

With Eight and Banjo I got it already sold, although Crash Bandicoot would be the ultimate cherry on the top.
Crash would definitely be extremely hype. If he were to get in, he would definitely be the most hype character of the FP

Yeah this is pretty much how I feel. Megaman, Geno, Banjo, Ridley and K. Rool are the characters I’ve collectively wanted in since Melee/Brawl.
But if they added the music now, what will accompany Geno in his fighter pass later? They promised a stage and music.
Funny thing. It isn't so much a question of who's missing...it's who they could add. I mean, Geno is still missing, so there's that, but even if he didn't get in somehow, I'm reserving my wallet vote to punish anything I deem to be too stupid or nepotistic. For example, if they were to try and add Minecraft Steve, I would straight up decline. All due respect to his fans, I have absolutely ZERO interest in him or his franchise and I find his design to be boring and repugnant. Other things I'd refuse to buy include: any other generic swordfighters, any other generic baddies (such as goombas, waddle dees, etc., sorry), or hyper realistic characters whose movesets would feel heavily forced (sorry but I feel this applies to the Resident Evil characters since they are literally just normal humans with a gun).
