I thought I might post a thread about airsoft and paintball, see if there are any players around Smashboards.

If one's curious, one might ask just what either of them are. The answers may be found on Wikipedia: http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Airsoft http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Paintball

Feel free to discuss whatever airsoft and paintball-related stuff you want in here. Talk about battlefield experiences, guns, other equipment... anything.

I love paintball! I always go to this place near here, so many stories that I will get into later. But for now, I am looking into buying a marker, as I currently rent 98s. I am looking at this:http://www.rap4.com/paintball/os/ak47-paintball-p-2256.html right now.
With my own marker and can go play more often, which I have not been able to do much because of the rental prices.

...Heh, haven't I seen you somewhere before? :p *high-fives Colonel*

I've never been paintballing- if it hurts more than airsoft, it's out of my league- but I'd love to hear your stories. :o I mean, just blasting away on full-auto at my friend gives me a rush, so hearing about a fleshed-out paintball battle would be awesome. 8D

I play airsoft with cheap guns with friends occasionally, it's just there are no airsoft fields around here and no one plays. One time I was defending a fort and someone threw some smoke and a car alarm! THe car alarm nearly defeaned us, and the smoke blinded us. We lost, and the guy with the alarm only got a "warning". Paintballs feel ike beestings, even less if you layer up (like I do). Try it at a local rental field. It brings a new level of intensity when you fear being hit more. The worst injury I've gotten is a couple cuts from being blasted from 10 feet away. It is great, intense, fun.

...Wow. Wooow. o_o That's a little extreme.

No. D: I can't handle pain too well. Airsoft hurts enough, man.

My airsoft repertoire consists of two AEGs, an M14 and a G3. I bought a cheap shotgun and pistol at a flea market... Um. e_e The pistol broke after about a week, I had to take the shotgun apart to fix its pump and it kind of exploded on me.

Now my G3's got a gearbox problem, and it's broken. :( Only my M14 survives...

But I'm gonna be getting an AWP and a Luger for Christmas.

I went paintballing at a rental place for the first time not too long ago. It was real fun. Seriously, if it weren't so expensive I'd do it every weekend. It doesn't hurt that bad, depending on where you get hit. I wore long pants and a thin T-shirt and got hit a few times that day, including in the neck just a few inches below my facemask! That one didn't hurt at all. One on my thigh and one on my forearm stung briefly and left a welt, but the other hits didn't.

Not that I got hit too much, but being my first time, I took a fair amount. It was awesome, though, I also got several other people and did pretty well all in all. Woodsball was amazing, I liked that much much better than any of the artificial arenas/courses/fields.

It's war without death or serious injury. 8D That's what makes it fun. War would be fun if there wasn't the possibility of injury or death. ^^;

I've gotten hit by an airsoft BB in the lip. It swelled up like a beesting for a few days. >_>

Haven't been, too young I believe but so want
...I'm 16. :p You just have to be 18 to buy airsoft/paintball stuff, I think. I know lots of under-18 airsofters (online, anyhoo).

I had to drop paintball because it was too expensive for me. I played and worked at a field every weekend and loved it. I had the privilege of becoming good friends with some of the most well known professionals in the business and they were a huge inspiration. A real shame though, because I had the opportunity to go pro, but I didn't have the time to travel and keep up with schoolwork. Christmas for me three years ago was getting a card from Oliver Lang wishing me a great year. He sent some autographed gear and Erik Hunters limited edition Dynasty Shocker. It was incredible for me because they were the 07' "test drive" ones, only 15 were made and it served me well in the past.

Even better, a year after we attended the PSP in Tampa, one of the big pro leagues. We picked Ollie up at his hotel and went out to eat. He's the only person in the world that could ever convince me to eat sushi and I hated it, haha. During the actual competition, the guys from Dynasty let us hang out with them in their VIP stand reserved for family. They ended up doing very well, as I recall and we drove back to house they rented which was actually really good. Brian Cole surprised me with his very own '08 Dynasty Shocker, the same one he used hours ago. These markers were valued at $2,000+ so it was a biggggg deal to me. We kept in touch, depsite them living in California. Now I can still chat with them on Facebook on the rare chance that they're free. After a few NPPLs and PSPs, the game became too hard to keep up with. Paint was $50 a box and we tore through 4,000+ per day. I'm looking forward to playing again some day though, I miss reffing at the old rec field.

Hopefully this is an appropriate bump. I just played today for the first time in 2 years and it was amazing! Anyone else a paintball fan?

Not I. Paintball wouldn't be my thing - ammo's too expensive... guns that look remotely like real guns are expensive... and paintball hurts more than airsoft. Not my thing.

I love airsoft, though. 8)

Paint is generally $30 for a case of 2,000 if you're looking hard enough, it's definitely enough to last you a full day and maybe even a day after that. If you're interested in a scenario gun that looks like a real gun, then yes I can see it being expensive. Things like Tippmans and Spyders go for under $200 and they're well worth the one time investment.

Here's my marker.

It's an '08 Dynasty Shocker, I believe. My friend Brian Cole gave it to me a few years ago after the PSP in Orlando. Really great guy, he custom painted it and everything.

I quit paint ball a while ago, but I heard smart parts went under? Thats a shame; they were probably my fav company.

Still playing airsoft here. Last game I played was the first field test of my full metal/wood AKM. Didn't disappoint.

Can't blame you, it's just way too much money.

Smart Parts stopped around mid 2010, which is a real shame too because if my Shockers ever stop working, I have no way of getting them fixed. As long as Dye and Eclipse are around for a long time, it's all good.

Went paintballing for the first time for a female friends 19th birthday. Amazingg!
It was indoors though, so the surface was really oily and slippery. It's a tad expensive, but was alright, for about $50 you could get all the hiring and equipment + about 300 ammo. Lol at buying a protective cup/box.

Played around 6 rounds, capture the flag and other mini games. Lasted a good 3 hours at least so long as you didn't spray and spam your ammo like an idiot.
I didn't really get directly hit at all apart from the helmet (the paint went thru the holes meant for breathing and paint got in my mouth :urg:), so I wasn't feeling the pain my friend were. So I volunteered to do a birthday run with the birthday girl just so I could get hit haha. My god it's painful, can still see a ringlet shape bruise on my knee from 2 weeks ago. Worst injury was my mate who got shot and unluckily hit his ear, causing it to bleed.

Good variation of peeps :)

Sounds like you guys had a great time! Only thing that puzzled me was only having 300 shots. The average hopper holds 180 balls, so I can't imagine conserving that much. In a day, I'll go through 4,000 because at a higher level of play you have to shoot a lot.

And why would you buy a cup, hahaha. It's really not that painful, I bleed quite a bit from the welts, but it's a brief sting. Do you happen to know the velocity you guys shot at? That might have something to do with how much it hurt.

Fun times indeed. I think the minimum someone bought was 300, but most had around 500. Lol it hurts, but with all that adrenaline and running, you don't really feel it. Not sure about the velocity.
Rofl seeing as a flick to the privates can bring most guys to their knees, a cup seemed like a good idea against speeding paintballs.

I have some paint in my room now and just looking at one bag of 500, it's amazing that anyone can go an entire day with that little. Oh well, maybe I just go too hard.

If anything, the best place to get shot would be waist to the knees. I've been shot in that general area before, might've been the pants I was wearing but I didn't feel a thing.

I also wear ridiculous looking dreads when I play. They're designed for snowboarding, but they work wonders in paintball. Last time I played, I must've been hit 5 times to the head in one game alone and didn't get out because the balls never broke.

I dunno how it works in paintball, but in airsoft, if you get hit, you're out, usually. Isn't that cheating, Mad? You still got hit. 8/ Call your hits, son :glare:

In paintball video games, they actually make it so you can wipe paint off and cheat. Meanwhile, in airsoft, your supposed to call yourself out even if you think your hit.

Just saying :troll:

Ooh, a Cyma. Not too bad. Looks nice, that's for sure. Have anything else?
you asked for it(copy pasted from my post in the local airsoft forum). I need to get some updated pics, as there are one or two tweaks on a couple of the AEGS.

KWA M4 with G&P M203.

This has been one of my 2 primaries for a long time now. Its served me extremely well and I've got nothing but praise to give for it. Its shooting kinda short for some reason recently though. I think my spring's going on it. Either that or its an airseal problem.

TM m16A2

Redwolf upgrade kit
Tightbore barrel
360-370FPS with .25s
This is my other primary. I actually got it used, but its worked flawlessly for me. Also has the longest range of any of my AEGs.

ECHO 1 G36c

~330FPS with .2s
This was my first AEG. I've never had 1 gearbox problem with it, even after 4 years. Reliable, effective, and still my main CQB AEG.

CYMA CM048M AKM

The newest addition to my family, although its not so new since I got it late last summer. I have yet to field it in a game, and it only has a couple hundred rounds through it. I toned down the spring of the AEG because it was shooting a whopping 440 fps from the factory. This can actually be dangerous with an AEG if you aren't careful, and it can negatively affect the longevity of the gun. Its shooting 400fps now; right where I want it.

Wow... those look great!

About the KWA, you might check the hop up. I know KWAs are for the most part proprietary... so... good luck with that. ^^;

All of those look awesome, though. Especially that M16A2. Tokyo Marui is amazing.

If you ever need some help with stuff, you might check out airsoftsociety.com, M@v. It's a fairly large forum that I frequent. Plenty of knowledgeable people there, too.

...One question though. How much money do you have in that KWA M4? :p Whew. A laster, a holo sight, a 'nade launcher, and the base gun itself...

It also has a new gearset and piston in it(Don't use a 11.1v lipo unless you plan to change your internals after 6 months to a year, learned that the hard way <_<. Downgraded to a 7.2v lipo so that doesn't happen again). I'd say close to $800-900 for everything new.(Including the $50 nade shell+m4 high caps). I also got a new stock not pictured. I got the GL for mad cheap though, so closer to like $700-$800.

I'm fine with tech help; I'm on an airsoft team sponsored by the local airsoft store, so I get all my maintenance done there. The team's moreso for PR, but some of us do go to National OPS to rep the team(I haven't been able to make one; they are so expensive T_T).

The team's been pretty inactive recently, mainly because most of us are either in college/went into the services/too busy with job.

Blah. I wish I could work on my guns. ^^; When my Cyma M14 stripped a piston or something (I dunno what happened, I'm just guessing), I tried to open it up... I didn't even get into the gearbox. I couldn't get the stock back on the barrel/receiver/gb assembly. o_o; So... yeah... I'm a tad scared about the whole concept of popping open a gun. >_<; Bwah.

In paintball, you're only out if the paint breaks. If it bounces, you're still in. I have this stupid "code of honor" when it comes to paintball, I honestly never cheat. Never have, never will.

I think that's kind of... stupid. :/ I mean, let's think about this. Playing paintball/airsoft is like playing war, without real bullets. It's war simulation, shooting-people-simulation. Therefore... if you get hit, well... err... you should be out, whether you get splattered with paint or not. Because a real bullet would get you out... and bullets have a 100% rate of splattering blood...

But hey, I'm an airsofter. I'd go crazy if I had to run around with a hopper-fed gun too.

(I'm joking around with that comment... don't live up to your name, Mad. :p)

Paintball isn't like playing war so your argument that one shot = death doesn't apply, silly. P:

What separates paintball from airsoft is exactly that, the paint. Hopper-fed guns don't bother me, it's a lot better than using fake guns and pretending I'm a Marine or whatever your crazy fantasy is. :awesome:

No, but I'm kidding. I have mad respect for airsofters but can't see myself playing it.

I've played airsoft and paintball, but I've never done airsoft with a large group (my friend, who is now in the army, used to play airsoft with me and a few other kids).

I love paintball, but I hate speedball because it bores me.

There's a field in my state called Adventure Games that I used to go to. I won a membership once due to being tall, catching a thrown plastic bunny and surviving the crowd that pretty much tried to elbow drop me to death. That's not paintball related though.

I use a spyder rodeo (haven't played in a long time) because I was born in Texas and rodeos are sort of a thing. That and I wanted a gun with an expansion chamber that used semi-auto because I hate wasting money. I had an all-american 16' barrel on it, so it was fairly accurate for a paintball gun (pretty much paint on paint up to 20 yards or so, and accurate enough to hit a person consistently around 50).

I enjoy paintball in the woods or somewhere you can use your brain to do things. Story incoming...

There's a course called "The Bridge" in Adventure Games. It consists of two sides with a nasty swamp in the middle that WILL cause you to sink into waist-deep mud. People lose shoes and boots there are all the time, it is awesome.

Anyways, there's a bridge that's maybe 30 feet long or so that crosses the swamp right in the middle. Bunkers are set up on either side (mostly sandbag bunkers, a few cardboard and a few earthen ones, they change it every year). In the center of the bridge is a flag. Your teams goal (teams are usually 30 or so people each) to grab that flag and take it to the other side of the bridge. That or eliminate the entire team.

On the one side of the bridge (we'll call them East and West sides, and pretend the teams start on the North and South sides) there's a swamp that's more mud, trees and water than anything else. on the other side...uh...East side, it's all tall grass and mud. Tall grass meaning it is roughly chest height, if you crouch down you become invisible. There are some random planks laid out on the East side so you can try and walk to the other side, and there are some barrels in the grass too.

One day I decided to focus on the East side. I wear camo because hey, why not. Anyways, I decided to crawl into the tall grass, get close enough that I can see the plank most people try and cross (because people would rather be obvious than muddy for some reason) and lay down in the mud. It's pretty gross and there are tons of mosquitos flying around, but I decide to wait because it'll totally be worth it when somebody walks by me.

While I'm crawling there are the usual paintball sounds, but nobody can see me and nobody can hear me over the swishing of paintballs through the grass. Nobody on my team tries to push up, but I'm totally ok with that since that's sort of my plan.

I wait for about 5 minutes of moist, mosquito-y fun before I see one guy start crossing the plank. He's talking to somebody so I wait and just grab my gun and keep it pointed at him. He settles into a crouch on the other side of the plank and takes cover on some barrels that are facing my team's side (which we'll call south side). His buddy crosses the plank and does the same thing.

Then another one does. And another.

At this point somebody on my team must have noticed them, because I heard whump whump whump on the barrel and they started shooting back. I figured this is my time to do something, and I raise my gun and fire maybe 15 times at them. You aren't allowed to hose people, but I didn't want to worry about bounce-offs or anything breaking on the grass between me and them.

I missed one of them (hey, there was grass and stuff) but he clearly didn't see me and starts unloading into the grass, aiming high enough that it doesn't matter to me. I have to wait a second for his friends to get off the field before shooting him a few times.

With their east side gone, me and a few people from my team walk around and end up having the bridge flanked. Victory!

I really like hiding and using tactics. Just shooting people is fun, but strategy is where it's at for me. If I want to just aim at people and use angles I'll play gears of war :p

I love airsoft (and paintball, but it's too expensive for me to play) but I happen to live in a more rural part of Indiana so, even though there's a ton of good potential fields, there aren't a whole lot of people interested. And my group's on hiatus because the owner of our field is out of state for a while. I haven't been able to play anything but springer games for a year now :\
