How would an AT replace a playable character?
Precisely. That would be mind-bogglingly stupid of Nintendo, especially considering that Marth was one of the most requested characters for Melee in Japan and is still the biggest Fire Emblem character out there (to the point where hes starring in the next FE game to boot), while Lyn is not liked at all in Japan and is instead popular internationally. Besides, everything else in that article is just Dojo information regurgitated (seriously, they used wide screen as one of their "reasons you'll love Brawl" - its painfully obvious they're just leeching off the Dojo), so theres no reason to believe that that statement is any more than the typical ignorant assumption on the part of a westerner with little to no knowledge of Fire Emblem and no inside knowledge of Brawl.

I.E. Creating and revealing Ike, despite "M4R7H I5 T3H FIRE EMBLEM M45C07!!!!11!1one"
Case in point. Ike being in has no impact on Marth at all. Ike has plenty of reason of his own to be in - hes popular in Japan and the most popular FE character elsewhere in the world, hes the star of two of FE's games (something only Marth can claim otherwise), and he was highly requested for Brawl (4 mentions in Sakurai's "poll"), and it makes perfect sense that Marth has not been revealed yet, since (shock and awe) no previously-unlockable veteran has been (you'd almost think Sakurai planned it that way, eh?). Ike gave FE fans a character to look forward to sooner than Marth could because of that.
Besides, given what is known of Ike, it makes no sense to claim hes replacing Marth. For one, even though by their Fire Emblem in-game stats they should have been fairly similar in terms of abilities, Ike is nothing like Marth in Brawl - hes the epitome of slow and strong, more so than Bowser, and only a couple of his moves bear any resemblance to Marth's (he has more moves that look and act like Link's than Marth's). If he were replacing Marth, why give him such abilities, especially considering they're totally contrary to the abilities he displays in his own games? And of course as a Fire Emblem character he just doesn't measure up to Marth - hes not as popular as Marth in Japan, not as recurring as Marth, nor as iconic to the series as Marth. In addition, Marth is a veteran who made it into Melee on sheer popular demand and was quite well-liked in it the world over, and who has no reason to be removed to begin with. No matter how you look at the facts of the matter, they all add up to the conclusion that it would be utterly senseless for him to be out.
