Since I'm guessing there are many who will not be happy having to click the shoulder buttons in all the time to shield, this thread is for people to discuss how to best mod your controller to adapt to brawl!

I don't know how to do this myself, but I figured it would be good to have a common thread for this, instead of having bits of info scattered about. Anyone with experience and/or ideas, please feel free to share them with us. =)

I think the reason is because of the custom control feature: You can't slightly hold down a button, but you can slightly hold down a trigger.
I'd say just to make shield a different button like "y" or something.

As I haven't played Brawl myself, and I know very little about the full clicking function, I have to ask: Why not hold the L or R button down just above the point where it clicks? Wouldn't that ideally be the same as tapping the button in melee?

Controller modding of any kind is not allowed in competitive play. If you mod your controller and use it at a tourney, you will be disqualified and asked to leave.

You can't enforce this with online play, but you can at actual tournaments.

If you allow any type of mods to a controller, you open a floodgate about what you can and can't do. Not allowing modifications simply gurantees everyone is on an equal playing field.

That is what I thought myself, but I don't understand why they wouldn't make a light press the same as a click, or at least give the option to use one or the other. I dunno if I'd like using y or x to guard though...

Oops.... that was kinda dumb of me not to remember that modding is illegal. You know... I think i'm just gonna go ahead and request a lock here. Thanks for pointing this out.

yup yup...

but with the adding of custom controls, people could use...say, Z to shield and Z+A to grab.

that is completely with in the limits =]

Keep in mind you are allowed to make certain cosmetic changes to a controller (like painting it to look cool)... but tampering with the inside will never be tourney legal.

With customizing the controls you could really do whatever you want without the need to modify any of the actual controller hardware.

Yeah, pretty much what others have said. Internal modding of any kind will be a disqualifiable offence in tournies. Of course if you're a casual gamer or are playing online, you can do it, but you still risk your friends *****ing at you because you have an advantage.

I say people just learn to deal with it and adapt. I think it'll get easier once people get out of the habit of wanting to play Brawl as if it were Melee.

as much as I love competition, I don't have the time or money to go to tourneys, I live in Salem, Oregon. Anyways, so due to that I'm going to be using a nice 3rd party pad, it doesn't give any special advantages or anything weird like that, it's just got a nice layout, rumble, wireless, and just works well. Which for me works great.
