The summer of Smash is in full effect and by no means is Mexico missing out on it. The country's next big event, GALAXY LG, is set to happen this weekend in the northern state of Monterrey. The region's very best are ready to duke it out at a tournament of galactic proportions!

What is GALAXY LG?

GALAXY LG is an open Super Smash Bros. Melee singles tournament to be hosted on June 24, 2017 in Monterrey, Mexico. It’s presented by La Gema, one of the main TO groups in the country previously responsible for Melee at Smash Factor 5 and Smash Factor Toluca.

Monterrey is known for being one of the most stacked cities in the country, home to players like Javi, Aza, Valdo, .jpg, Rael and plenty more. Hence, this event promises to be one of the summer's most stacked dates on the road to Smash Factor 6, the national tournament. But with a serious congregation of Mexico's best players in place plus the attendance of out-of-state competitors such as Sauris from Veracruz and Herran from Puebla, it is not entirely clear who will come out on top at this event, making it an exciting watch for all those interested in Mexican competitive play.

Tournament Favorites

The reason for this uncertainty comes from the current paradigm in the north region's scene. While sitting comfortably at #1 in the state (and country's) PR, Javi and his brother Twin have been inactive for the past 6 months, having last competed at a local tournament in January. This absence has created a power vacuum of sorts for the players that follow behind him: Aza (#2), .jpg (#3) and Valdo (#4), who recently joined Zaga Talent Gaming. With these players –and those below them– still training and levelling up during the famous claw player's nonattendance, this event will help indicate if Javi still has what it takes, or if perhaps someone else will be ready to usurp that coveted #1 spot.

Wild Cards

Yet there's still more to look out for with those on the come-up and the out-of-state visitors. Players like Monty (#7) and Dream (#8) have slowly come to show more and more skill, with Monty having taken sets off some of Monterrey's best (like Javi and Valdo) and Dream keeping up with the competition with his showy Ganondorf play ever since getting top 8 at Smash Factor 5 last year. Joining them is Herran, the #1 player in Puebla, who recently defeated Rael at Smash Factor Toluca and is now delving into the lion's den to take on the rest of Monterrey; at the same time, the local scene is ready for him in order to avenge their fallen comrade, locking their sights on the up-and-coming Marth main.

Where and When to Watch?

With this notable gathering of talented competitors, GALAXY LG will be a treat for Mexican and international Smash fans alike. It will be streamed live by Team Sabroso, the top FGC team in the country, as a collaborative effort between Mexico's Smash and fighting game scenes. It will also be showcasing the first version of Mexico's new custom hack pack 20MX, created by modder Minerali. Quality stream production, new content and high level play, what more could you ask for? Don't miss GALAXY LG this saturday!
