Been bouncing back and forth but I seem to have an easier time using the c-stick for his forward air. Is this the best way to go?

Actually, c stick set to attack for aerials is considered more optimal, especially for Greninja, whose tilts are a big part of his game, and being a character who relies so much on optimal movement.

Cstick by a lot imo, you can't really do a retreating fair without it. And retreating fair is godlike on wheels.

It obviously depends on your preferences (we're talking about something as personal as control schemes), but c-stick set to attack is recommended for Greninja, as it allows for retreating aerials, fastfalling u-air easier and easier access to tilts.
