I believe in freedom of expression. I really do. I hate to curtail anyone's efforts to express themselves.


I've been trying my best to be as lenient as possible with the things going on in this room, but it's getting to a point where I have to start *gasp* locking threads again. When I start getting PMs from other moderators about the low quality of my room, it's a bad thing.

So, as long as my tenure here lasts, here's a few simple guidlines that we can hopefully try to follow:

1) The room name is "Forum Games".

This means that for your thread to be applicable to this room, it must be a game. It must also be played on a forum.

2) Any game dealing with Reputation (whether it be a "Rep the Person Above You" style game, or with Reputation as a prize for achieving something) will be BALEETED.

Reputation is designed to be an accurate indicator of how valuable someone is to the forums as a whole. Yes, it doesn't always (or often) work out that way, but blatantly abusing it just throws the system out of wack even more.

3) Watch your signature.

Preferably, refrain from posting it at all. I understand that mistakes happen, but if it's possible, please edit it out of your post, ESPECIALLY if your signature takes more room on the screen than your post content does. (And for those games with no editing allowed, mistakes DO happen. Just try and avoid them.)

4) Any "Race to X Number of Posts" games will be strictly monitored. destroyed on sight.

Personally, I don't like the concept. It often degenerates into pure spam and posting purely for postcount. In order for one of these threads to remain unBALEETED, it should be unspammy, have an actual topic of discussion, and generally not make me tired of seeing it every day.

Due to the amount of spam and other unacceptable behavior, I am putting the kibosh on these types of games permanently. Anyone posting this type of game will be warned. I would ask anyone who sees this type of game posted to please Report the game to us. Thanks.

5) Purposefully ruining/blatantly cheating in a Mafia/Adventure game is worth infractions

Seriously guys, don't be a ****. Destroying someone else fun is against the entire spirit of Forum Games. Doing the above is worth a three point infraction, and depending on how severe it is, perhaps more. Editing in those games can, depending on the circumstances, be worth infractions. This rule is not limited to those games.

If you think someone is cheating, send a Pm to either me, Baha, or Drab.

I'm leaving this thread open for now, so I can get some feedback. Sorry if it seems like I'm getting overbearing all of a sudden, but the 'hands-off' approach wasn't working too well. Let's all work together to make this room the best room of all... especially with the yearly room contest coming up soon!

here here!!! Thanks Drab. I think these are great guidelines. I do feel that some of the games created are really no fun and have little point.

A suggestion: I believe there should be a purely maifa talk only room for upcoming mafia games and discussion. I know we already use the one room but I believe that should be left towards discussion about other non-mafia games. I think this will be easier on the mafia players who wan to talk about mafia and not get random posts in between about someone elses idea for a different styled game!

I don't think Mafia games by themselves have enough of a population in order to create a sub forum, but maybe if one was created it would draw more attention?

Edit: Also, I think all "Race to 1,000 posts!" games should be banned, unless the post count is only used as a time frame (like Duke's game has it).

I was thinking that the mafia "base camp" thread could be used to resolve rules conflicts, create a standardized set of rules that everyone can follow and be happy with, ect...
And I believe it would pull more people into joining the game and finding out how it works!

If this were to go through I am sure some here, like myself (since this is my idea), docsalive, eorlingas, or frozenflame,
could head it up and pull together a set of rules that every regular active mafia player could vote on and make suggestions to. We could "ammend" it and such. I think it would be a lot of fun and make this forum a better place (room contest!!!) by having such a thread!

I don't believe that should be done. I believe rep games just need to be banned. Reps are an important part of playing a game...ex.) good sport vs. bad sport ect...

drab could u comment on my proposal plz along with all the other mafia players so we could talk about this!!!

Meh, I'm not a big fan of a general ruleset for all mafia games, as rules can often make games unique. Plus different game mods would disagree with certain rules, and would handle a situation differently. We could make a very clear "how to play" guide of some sort for new players, but I don't think a general mafia ruleset is a good idea.

As for rep: whatever. It doesn't mean much to me either way.

good point, and I like your idea on a 'how to play' setup...sounds great to me...but come on there are some basic rules that all mafia games follow that should be established...I know how some rules are different for each game (like my own mafia game i have planned and am excited about)...game specific rules will always and should be posted in that game's thread...i just think for all the newer players a guide forum should be set up where questions can be asked, answered, and the upcoming list posted and updated regulary (unlike now/no offense)...this will make mafia unique in this forum and create a better experiance for all!!!

Well, my 1,000th post game was locked. I think mainly because it had the same title as the other spamming thread. My new 1,000th post game really had very few similarities.

Because it had degenerated into oblivion, and there were too many Reports on it.

I appreciate the effort, Duke, but I think you'll agree that not everyone can run a game like that successfully. I made a policy decision, and if I say "all EXCEPT Duke's, which is okay", then it doesn't hold water. I hope you understand.

Oh, the reports were because we had a troll who was posting porn in the 33 and 34 page I think it was. Not because people were annoyed by the game. Please go in there and erase it.

Otherwise the game was goint quite well and organized. But I back up whatever decision you make.
