Former Lab Zero employees form Future Club

After several allegations of inappropriate sexual comments from Lab Zero’s (Studio behind Skullgirls and Indivisible) studio lead Mike “Mike Z” Zaimont, employees tried to enter an agreement with Zaimont. Talks reportedly fell through leading to many employees leaving the company. Every remaining employee was laid off, as Zaimont cited financial reasons.

In its place, a new studio has risen: Future Club.

Future Club is a new co-op development studio made up of 15 previous Lab Zero employees. Co-op, one may ask? In their official statement, they plan to structure their company so that the whole team has a voice in where their development goes.

This is not the first Video Game co-op - some others include Wild Blue Studios, KO_OPMode (Goodbye Volcano High), The Glory Society (formerly Night in the Woods), Black Flag (Orphan Age), Soft Not Weak (Spirit Swap: Lo-Fi Chill Beats to Match-3 to), and New Constellations.

Their first press release notes that they’re planning to continue with 2D Game Design too, and make their own IP.

Autumn Games, rights holder and publisher of Skullgirls, stripped Lab Zero of all development duties. A new fighter for Skullgirls: 2nd Encore, Annie of the Stars, will release in 2021. As of posting, there is no official word to who will lead development on the endeavor. 505 games, publisher of Indivisible, has made no comment.
