Flare Blade doesn’t increase in size despite charging? Bug or no?

The fully charged Flare Blade (the one that deals 12% to Roy) has a huge hitbox that matches the animation, but every other charge level has the same hitbox as the uncharged version despite the explosion visual growing bigger every second. IThis has to be a bug, right? I can’t think of any other move more visually misleading.

It certainly feels this way although it’s so hard to accurately test hitbox data. We are kindof discussing this is the other thread about 2 frame options. It seems that even with a near full charge you still cannot get the hitbox to expand.

What’s so difficult to test about it? Just put a training dummy Mario just outside of Flare Blade’s uncharged hitbox and test different levels of charge. The training dummy will be almost engulfed in the explosion graphic depending on how long you charge, but won’t actually be hit. It’s not like we need to datamine the game to confirm the result...
