I like them all. I just prefer 9 and 6, although I'm having loooots of fun with 8 thanks to its weird gameplay mechanics which makes a no-level run ideal, which is what I'm actually doing now. 8 is so ****ing broken once you learn to abuse limit breaks and junctions and card modding.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QtpNF0ejFI&feature=player_profilepage Here's a vid of my friend fighting all the bosses on a no-level/no-junction run (well I think there's one missing, forgot his name but I think you just OHKO him with phoenix down since he's an undead type rofl)

Advent Children sucks.

I personally think that FF6 is one of the greatest and most dramatic media experiences available in gaming. Of course, I'm biased because I went through certain iconic scenes (e.g. the opera house) with just Celes and Locke, so it also made some scenes different (for my preference) than I believe that they were intended. Also, that certain cliff scene at the beginning of the second part of the game is a dramatic device that remains rather unique to the game.

I'm really surprised how few games utilize other arts/media. You'd think that it would have picked up after how well they were received through 6/9.

I actually disliked 8 a lot. I think that the story is mediocre at best and that the romance (which is a large part of the story) made little to no sense -- mainly do the lack of any progression that I noticed. I didn't like the characters and I didn't enjoy the gameplay. IIRC I ended up using a game shark just to speed through it as quickly as possible. The only other Final Fantasy I remember doing that for was 5, which I initially disliked. I think that the non-GBA versions of 5 aren't very good. FF5 Advance is amazing though.

I know 8 has a rather divisive base among the fans - the gameplay initially threw me off a little and things like enemies scaling along with your levels, the Draw and Junction systems and etc. made things real confusing, but once I understood how it worked and once I figured out how to abuse the system I winded up enjoying it a lot, but that's also got to do with my liking for breaking games (in a manner of speaking) in general so FF8, which has a combat system that's absolute insanity once you know how to abuse it, has that particular appeal to people like myself. Your mileage may vary with regards the cast, but I winded up liking most of the characters in the end (although I didn't care much for Ultimecia, though her final form looks pretty cool imo). As for the plot, I haven't really formed an actual opinion on it just yet so I can't really say much (9 is my favorite story of the four so far). I'm not really well-versed in analyzing plots on my own so sometimes I can get very easily lost on some of the themes in the stories :|

I'm actually very similar, but I just didn't like the gameplay FF8 even after breaking it. FF6's themes is one of the main ways that I think that it's far ahead of other numbered FFs -- if only because of its maturity and depth. I don't think that any Final Fantasy title can hope to surpass Final Fantasy Tactics in story, themes, or characters.

I never understood the point of completely dissecting games like FF8 (or any FF really). They're so easy putting abunch of time into making your characters extra broken just makes no sense to me.

Because if you got a real 9 to 5 job you'd have to pay taxes.

I usually like to OP my characters the first playthrough, then after that I like to do challenges like no-level run. It's not even just FF that I enjoy learning to dissect, but other games in general. That's more than likely a side effect from speedrunning, which is one of my favorite hobbies, and a lot of it has to do with learning the little intricacies of the game and learning to exploit and abuse every possible mechanic (within "reasonable" bounds of course; cheat codes aren't legit, but if I can exploit a glitch that skips entire sections of level, or stuff like Mega Man 1's pause glitch against bosses, then as long as they aren't intentional cheats, sure why not?).

Heck, we see this all the time in competitive fighters, from learning frame data, to character matchups and attributes that otherwise wouldn't be known amongst more casual gamers, to stuff like MVC3's DHC glitch, all the quirky things you can do with SSBM's physics enabling things like wavedashing/crouch-cancels/L-cancels/etc. I find things like that really fun to learn and do, and it even transcends games: lately I find myself interested in getting to know all the little details that make up various things I'm interested on an intimate level as well, be it computers, most kinds of digital electronics in general, even food and books etc.

I like a good challenge, but the best thing honestly is to play a favorite game so you don't get too bored with it quickly when self-challenging yourself, even if the game is easy to begin with. I can consistently speedrun Resident Evil 2 (on the GCN version I can usually get 1:07 to even 1:04 if I'm damn lucky), I've also done some speedrunning for the first two Penumbra games, and I'm actually planning to purchase Mario 64 on Virtual Console and start practicing runs for that. It's a very technically demanding game when you go for that kind of challenge with a lot of on-point execution involved: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3Rja8pKH_4

I made a tier list of brawl players and how likely it is that they will be successful in life. But don't worry, keep playing video games every day.

Godly Successful Tier
ESAM
Poltergust
Shaky

Working On It Tier
MVD
DJ Jack
R@vyn
2link

Waning Potential, Needs Guidance Tier
Seibrik
Xaltis
Dfear

Victim of Circumstance Tier (hard times through no fault of their own, not necessarily a low tier)
Afro
Master Raven

McDonalds for Life Tier
Snipes
Green Ace
Nick Riddle (the irony)

I mean I hope you don't take it the wrong way. I don't want you to think I'm deliberately trying to hurt your feelings and wake you up, I want you to know I'm doing that. I guess you can argue, but nobody has yet prove me wrong. If I forgot you that probably means you have no significance.

also **** central florida

Deus Ex 3 beta leaked HOLY ****

*gets*

also last night I dreamt I was playing at ZP w/ Vermanubis and another Ganon player and we were playing on a sidescrolling stage. Don't remember who won but after some really creepy **** happened, I was driving with the Lews across this beautiful region on the highway to a restaurant, then I tripped over this toy that looked like a bunch of multi-colored neurons inside and then I woke up.

Btw Seibrik its your fault that I'm not going to NLL. You could just wait for me to get out of work tonight and then you have another person going.
