This would include you as well, mother****er. I never understood the self-hate mentality a lot of smashers have. If you truly believe this, NEVER hype another no-name Tampa player again.Knowing the history of a video game community that sucked and still sucks?
? Fighters also have entire industries based around them, and are also supported by massive corporations. MLG is a joke, and pretty much caters almost COMPLETELY to the casual gamer (Halo:Reach on main stage? Lol) with the exception of SC2. And the only reason they have SC2 up there is because they put WoW up there (blizzard made WoW and SC2) besides its competitve following i mean.sc:bw and sc2 have entire industries based around them and are supported by massive corporations
sc2 is kicking halo off of the main stage at MLG this weekend (something that a fighter could never do)
a game/esport is a game/esport. it's pretty hard to disagree with #'s and where money is going
brawl sucks **** sure, but there's more to it than just the gameplay being campy
Your checking streams while there are no tournaments going on. The difference between SC and SF/MvC (fighters in general) is that we have local tournaments, regionals, and nationals that youa ren't aware of like SB, SBO (International Tourney), Dreamhack, FinalRound, CEO (as of this year) and many more i cant think of off the top of my head. And thats not including the many many many local tournaments all throughout America. Plus you're looking at a single game, how about BlazBlue? MvC3? TekkeN? Soul Calibur? Theres multiple games in the fighter category. And brawls success isn't near any of them, and fighters are right there with SC2. Easily. Check back on the streams this weekend, while Evo is going. You really can't compare the 2 in terms of popularity or money backing them. At this exact moment, there's roughly 14,500 people watching streams related to sc2. For fighting games (sf4, mvc3 and mk9), it's only 630~. (this is only off of justin.tv/twitch.tv)
Couldn't find any prize figures for evo2k11 but evo2k10's prize pool for sf4 was 20k. Brawl singles at genesis 2 was like 6,875 total or some ****. For MLG Anaheim, the prize pool is $14,000 and there are 5 of these over the year (with an additional 120k for the finals in providence). I'm not even gonna talk about the GSL in korea which has prize pools over the next year in the millions (and is sponsored by ****ing Pepsi) or all the other major/minor tournaments (TSL, NASL, IEM, HSC, geforce pro/am, plantronics etc.).
My point is not that Brawl isn't ****ty. It IS ****ty (trust me i know about the current state of the game).
My point is that Brawl is closer to the success of other fighting games (w/out any real backing) than Fighting games are to SC2.
competitive madden is too cheese filled for me. I tried back in 2005 with the madden challenge and all that...nah, its kYo, obviously the game to play is MADDEN!!!!
