Okay, I'll admit that I'm a fairly new smash player.
I'll also admit that brawl is known for being one of the worst smash versions ( I have project m too ;) )

But you gotta admit...falco main is a fun game.

Anyways--

Every guide I've watched treats the short hop spike at the end of a chain grab as a super obvious thing.
Are there any tips to doing the spike at the end of a falco chain grab. I can only ever seem to get it off on a huge character like Donkey Kong or Bowser. Even heavy characters seem to grab the ledge by the time I go to spike.

I'm sure my timing must be off, but any tips?

It's more about your placing than timing. With practice you will know whether you can spike your opoonent when you are in the chaingrab. Do it too close to the ledge and you might throw them away too far and you can't reach. Throw them too far off the ledge and they will land on stage or grab the ledge. Remember there is a guaranteed percentage for every character, so, that's when timing is a thing when CG'ing, but that's another topic.

Tl;dr: Learn the place where you can actually spike out of guaranteed CG.
