I would have to say that over all, Fair is the most useful in almost all situations. Building damage, kill, gimping, punishing, combo starting, combo ending, idol time fun times (Retreating fairs = lol).

But maybe that's just how I think, what you yousay is his over all best move?

Or maybe just your favorite?

Or maybe just say something so this board doesn't die D:<

not his 'best' move, since in terms of best, id have to say uair for its spammability and how comparitively safe it is. however combined with his run speed, quick/low SH and the actual damage it can do (14% for an aerial is above average) it probably is indeed one of his best. just not safe enough imo :/

I agree that Fair is a great move, and maybe this will start some discussion.

I played Blue's Sonic, and he has the most interesting/campy/slow Sonic I've ever seen.

Something awesome that he did was Fair>FSJ>Dair
I didn't even know that was possible, but it's legit. Give it a try.

Fair is great, but it doesn't auto cancel like bair :(...
However my favourite move is spin dash, lol sets up combos etc...
With fair at high % i can do this

Fair-> spinshot -> to another fair or arial

Funny, fair is often considered Ness' best move also...

I dunno, I use back air as much or more than forward air. Bair spaces, KOs earlier, and is a good move for approaching if RAR'd because of its range. Also, opponents can DI out of Fair's multiple hits in order to evade damage and the knockback of the last hit. Fair's much faster, though, so it comes in handy when you need to get the opponent away from yourself quickly, or a fast method of stagespiking a hanging opponent. I have trouble deciding what one move a character has that can be considered the absolute best, though, because they have different purposes.

Yea, I played against Blue's Sonic too, and his most used move is Fair. Any level with platforms then it becomes Sonic's best move.

PS, i saw Camalange owning Metaknights earlier today =P. I wouldve went over but i was too busy getting stomped. I do have a video of me playing a good lucario (AJ) that I will put up soon.

We are talking about over all (offensive) stuff ...

-All grounded attacks except B moves aren't good to gimp.
-Uair is good to kill, juggle, etc, but isn't good to gimp either.
-Nair isn't the move you'll choose to bulid damage, combo... Bair can do all Nair can do but better (Not counting jab lock set ups).
-Dair (my favorite move) only good to gimp.
-Spring is for chasing, gimping, add little damage. Lacks offense.
-Spin Dash and Charge are good to assist gimps/kills, build up damage, combo starters, chasing. Not too good for gimping.
-HA is used mainly as a combo finisher and a gimp move. The lag everywhere kills the overall potencial it could have.
-Bair/Fair are Sonic's overall moves IMO, used to approach, space, start/finish a combo, gimp, stage spike, chase (RAR in Bair case), punish, kill, rack up damage, set ups, blah, blah, etc, etc.
Fair is faster than the Bair, but Bair have more range and less landing lag.

Haha yea, we got stomped in 2s, except i think we won a match on the streaming tv =)

But i've been reading the Sonic boards pretty much, not too much posting. I did get to play some awesome people at COT4.

M2K
Lee/M
Ally and his partner
Blue
-. -
(We had no idea who he was but of my friends, i did the best against his DDD by getting it to one stock lol)
AndyG
(Was sooo close to taking out his Diddy on Rainbow Cruise, but his olimar stomped me)
Alex
JCaesar

And a couple others =)
There were alot of Sonics there though, Camalange, Blue, Malcolmm and Tango(Wes) were probably the best though.

Fair is good, perfect for comboing (lol specially when they air dodge as soon as the get out of it). But IMO Uair is so much safer and better overall, also kills better (vertically) but gimps worse. They are for different levels tho I think, I like Uair so much more on levels with platforms, whereas Fair rocks on levels like FD/smashville.

Well for me fair is one of my favorite moves but my best one has to be dash grabs there good for mindgames and I think they make thee opponent lose some momentum I espically go for throws near the edge either for off stage battle or when my opponent has high damage.

I don't like F-air for damage racking - people either escape it too easily, or you have to start your F-air a little early to sweetspot so you end up missing half the damage anyway ><;

It is a quick punisher though.

Off-stage, it's pretty nice though - either fastfalling through to eat someone's double jump, or to do an early F-air for the gimp/kill.

Blue was there?
did he get out of pools?

i like f air, side b, and a few others.

for the record, up air is really good for saving your partner in doubles.

U-air is only good when attacking from below though. F-air is like a standard approach, you're very unsuccesful when using U-air as an approach. I'd say B-air and F-air are Sonics best/bread and butter move.

**** it, Sonic has no bread and butter, we have the whole deal, steak and sauce.

Lag? Fair can be auto-canceled out of a short hop...

Retreating Fair OoS is too good.

Personally I prefer the air Uair, but Fair is a very close second. Spaced well it's quite safe and is quite rewarding when it hits.

Yup lag... I was talking about landing lag, if you SH Fair you don't touch the ground. If you SHFF Fair (or touch the ground before Fair finishes) Sonic bounces in lagness. If I'm wrong please correct me :)

Ret. Fair OoS is steaky.

It was his bread and butter for sure.

FSmash for me, of course a lot of other moves rock.

I also like reading when people either ledge hop or jump from the ledge/get up, and head into a quick running Up Smash.

FSmash is one of my favorites personally; it outprioritizes Meta Knight's tornado if you time it right.

As I play more, I think I'll incorporate Uair into my game more. That said, as far as approaching goes it's Fair for me hands down, unless something better [and feels better] comes along. =/

FAIR

Its not really that disjointed... It just looks that way because Sonic spins around. However the final hit of fair with killer knockback is what appears so disjointed in front of Sonics head. It only exists for the very last part of the attack though.
Of course we must try to space that last hit all the time. :O

Nice thread though, very informative, but the hitbox is still bad. :/

btw, did I mention I spam it both with Sonic/Pika :O

Bair is better than fair

wait, wut's this?

Ayaz wants a sig?

Well, I make some sexy sigs.

Some of the sigs on the Sonic boards are my own creations.

Boxob's for example.

Ask and you shall receive.

Bair is better than fair.
