*Game version: Nintendo Gamecube
*Game Settings: Singles VS Melee, 2/3 Games, 4 Stock, 6 Minute Timer, No Items
*If both players can agree on a stage, that stage will be used. If there is conflict, then the rules below come into action.
*Pool A: Final Destination, Kirby's Dreamland 64, Battlefield, Yoshi's Story, Pokemon Stadium, Fountain of Dreams.
*Pool B: Mute City, Green Greens, Rainbow Cruise, Kongo Jungle 64, Brinstar, Poke Floats, Corneria, Jungle Japes.
*The stage for Game 1 will be selected at random from pool A. Any games after that can be from pools A or B.
*After the stage has been selected by the losing player, the winner of the previous game may change characters, but has to pick first.
*No stage may be used twice in any given set.
*Glitches used to stop your opponent from controlling their character or indefinitely freezing them (Mewtwo's Soul Stunner, the Ice Climber freeze glitch), or any glitch or trick that freezes the game or makes it unable to be finished are banned and will result in the immediate forfeit of the entire match.
*Tactics such as Peach's Wallbombing and Jiggly's Rising Pound are allowed as methods of recovery or to maneuver around the stage. Using them (or any similar tactics) to excessively stall a match, such as dropping below levels intentionally and stalling underneath, is banned. If by using one of these tactics, you have put your character in a place to lose a stock by ending the tactic, a judge may force you to stop and lose a life and continue the match short a stock.

Unannounced. Top 8 will receive money, and considering they're still sponsored by Toyota I would expect to see them be similar to last year's, $5k for 1st, $250 (I think) for 8th, and some numbers in between.
**** that's crazy! That's more than the payout from OC3 and FC Diamond singles combined.

valoem: I heard there was some sort of Justin Wong exhibition match that's supposed to be the ish. Do you know what day they're having it? I think I'm only going to go for the final day, but if the exhibition is before then, then I'll go for that as well.

Prizes confirmed: http://www.evo2k.com/playerGuide/prizes.php

The reason the two Evos you went to had (what I assume) was a low payout, M2K, was because the prizes at the qualifiers were based off of entry fees and split 70/20/10. Evo Worlds has guaranteed money regardless of entrants.

Also, Wong's big match is going to take place Saturday night.

People yell that smash should be part of Evo for years, but then they refuse to get hype over it :(.

Just to be clear, there is no seeding at worlds. All the seeding is taken from the top 8 players at the 4 qualifers and they are seperated in the finals bracket.

The last chance tournament at the event will all be randomized, and those qualifiers will have to go on to face some of the people that qualified.

The qualifiers have always been randomly seeded. This is based on our luck of the draw scenerio. This ensures all players are treated fairly and honestly.

Hope this helps.

No it doesn't. Something's wrong when two of the best players from their respective regions (Vidjo and Cactuar) don't make it out of pools, while 2 no-names do, based completely on sheer luck. The player that got 8th at Evo West got 17th (tied for last) at some random Norcal tourney, and he's able to get 8th at Evo West, over Cactuar and Vidjo? Something's wrong with that.

How is that even remotely fair?

Anything other than random seeding is subjective and can lead to arguments. As I said in another thread, these people are running EIGHT tournaments. If they try to do ANY type of seeding; be it region, skill, or hair color, it is almost assured that someone will have a complaint and yell at whoever made the brackets that they are biased and the event is rigged. They don't need to deal with that kind of hassle, so they have implemented a system to avoid it. It is a FAIR SYSTEM, the people who deserve to win WILL WIN. Making top 8 at previous Evos may provide an advantage, but in the remaining bracket of 64 (I think. 32 people qualified already, so I assume they're going to match this with 32 more.) if these people are as bad as you think they are, they won't win, and they definitely won't make the top 8 at Worlds.

fair or not fair

its their tournament,

if you dont like how they run it then you shouldnt go.

otherwise if you go you play by their rules and how what they want.

stop complaining and practice up.

Hypothetical situation:

Ken has to face Mew2king first round, and PC has to face Chu.
Mew2king beats Ken.
Chu beats PC.
PC beats Ken first round of losers and gets last place.

How is that "ensuring all players are treated fair and honestly." One of the best players in the world getting last place because of horrid luck. Seeding is absolutely necessary when the competition level is this high or else the greatest players can get gayed by brackets and suffer horribly from it. At the same time, no names can get an easy bracket and place much higher than they should.

Manacloud really is right about it being your tournament and all, but if you want the full support of the Smash community you will have to do a better job with things like this.

You guys need to take into account the fact that Evo is doing more games than just smash. We might have an agreeable seeding system, but other games may not. If smash is allowed something other than random seeding, players of different games would get understandably miffed.

M2K, Chu, and PC are already qualified and in the final bracket of 64 people, they will be seeded away from each other based on their performance at the qualifiers. That's what Evo North/South/East/West were for.

Evo has always run this way, and likely always will. Obviously if people don't like it, they don't have to show up, which judging for the complete lack of hype in this thread people won't. That's a shame, as Evo is now the highest paying tournament with MLG gone.

Judging by the rule set I assume that Evo DOES have someone familiar with the Smash scene behind the tournament. They could have the entire MLG staff and would still use their random seeding, though. It's what they do. In every game. No exceptions. People ***** at the system, but they don't ***** at the organizers and that's exactly what they want.

Well, I'm going :D Evo is run professionally by people who have been doing tournaments for a long time.

They give the promised payouts, and they get things done quickly even though they have a lot of games to go through. South had a set payout and I got my money at the venue not ten minutes after we finished. The other Evo tournies, as I understand, had prizes based on attendance.

Strictly speaking, the issue of seeding completely randomly is objectively fair, which may be a bit of the problem. The point of seeding is to subjective; we don't want the best players eliminating each other early. People who aren't good enough to compete with the best players shouldn't luckily wind up in an opposite bracket with a ticket to Winner's Finals and guaranteed third, while the people who deserve top 8 play each other early and eliminate one another. With tournaments, we have to be subjective. But, just a heads up, Chu and I helped to seed Evo East with Mr. Wizard at his request. I think Evo is just refusing to seed World because the seeding was supposed to come from the other Evo tournaments, and nowhere else. If you didn't go and place, you don't get a seed. I'm not sure why, if East was seeded, West and North weren't, but... well, I wasn't at those so I can't say.

I wouldn't miss out on it, personally.

in addition to the fact that top placers from previous evos get advanced seeding for evo world:

Regional seeding will be done for online registrations only. Day of registrations will be randomly assigned to a bracket.

taken from http://www.evo2k.com/playerGuide/rules.php

hopefully that clears up the seeding issue? or mebbe they do it for the other games but not smash. lawlz

Evo World is a blast. Everyone should make a good attempt to go. A couple of reasons:

1. this is event pays out almost 10K to smash singles, easily the highest payout of any smash tourney this YEAR. Supporting it this year will ensure that it'll be around next year

2. I know smashers have a general 'distrust' of other communities running "their game" but EVO runs a fair, smooth tourney. They've been running tourneys for about 15 years now.

3. There is no reason smash shouldn't get the highest # of participants given the user base. Last year 3rd strike had over 300 players. I've had local smash tourneys hit 100, so this should be a great tourney.

4. It should be a great nationwide tourney, the final 8 will be exciting on sunday to watch.

5. Vegas baby!
