A few notable standings after 100:

102. YOC :ultcloud:
110. Brosinex :ultryu::ultken:
111. Konga :ultdk:
112. BassMage :ultjigglypuff:
113. Widget :ultgnw:
115. Xzax :ultinkling:
120. MastaMario :ultmario:
124. Rickles :ultganondorf:

Some fast notes to write down:

-:ultmewtwo::ultcorrin::ultbowserjr::ultkirby::ultlittlemac::ultlucas::ultbrawler::ultgunner::ultswordfighter::ultpiranha::ultpit::ultdarkpit::ultrobin::ulticeclimbers::ultsheik::ultryu::ultken::ultkrool::ultjigglypuff::ultrichter::ultridley::ultmarth::ultganondorf:, and for that matter, :ultsamus::ultsonic::ulttoonlink: are nowhere to be seen within the top 100 standings. The lack of certain Japan reps for the latter three really seemed to have taken a toll on their representation. Casting those three aside, outside of Ken, Ryu, and to a lesser extent, the Belmonts, Marth, and the ICs, the rest of the characters mentioned are generally viewed as low-mid to low tier characters. At the very least, Jiggs and Ken/Ryu have BassMage and Brosinex backing them up respectively.

- Meanwhile, :ultisabelle::ultdoc::ultdk::ultincineroar::ultmetaknight::ultwiifittrainer::ultsheik: are literally hanging as secondary strands that are pretty much clinging onto the coattails of high level players, despite the mostly positive reception the latter three seem to receive from top level players. Only Meta Knight and Sheik have more than one rep as a secondary. On a slightly more positive note, DK and Ganon have Konga and Rickles backing them up respectively.

- Characters such as :ultluigi::ultrosalina::ultvillager::ultbowser::ultlucario::ultfalco::ultcloud::ultike::ultgnw::ultzelda::ultlink::ultpacman::ultdiddy::ultchrom::ultkingdedede::ultbayonetta::ultduckhunt:, and surprisingly enough, :ultzss::ultinkling::ultjoker::ultwario: have only got 1-2 dedicated players backing them up, especially in the case of characters such as Villager, Diddy Kong, Rosalina, Luigi, Lucario, DDD, Mr. Game and Watch, Zelda, and oddly enough, Inkling. The latter four are mostly secure as they have the creme of the top supporting them, but as for everyone else, it's looking to be a fight for survival to see who gets he farthest.

- Despite her nerfs, :ultpeach: continues to see a ton of representation, with Samsora, MuteAce, Ling Ling, Razo, Umeki, and Zinoto all backing her up. Looks like the Toadstool Princess still has quite a bit of crutches to fall back on. While :ultolimar: is feeling a bit more of a sting, he still has 3 players in the top quartile backing him up, so that's a good sign for him.

- :ultsnake: appears to be nowhere near as dominating as beforehand, with neither Salem or MVD breaking top ten; the loss of Ally definitely did hurt him. He still has a good selection of players backing him up, but he doesn't seem to be as overcentralizing as during the earlier stages of Ultimate's meta game.

- Holy cow, it's like everyone suddenly became a PKMN Trainer overnight because there are :ultpokemontrainer:s EVERYWHERE. Okay, everywhere is a stretch, but there's Tweek, Puppeh, HIKARU, Pandarian, and now, even Leffen is joining in as well, seemingly coming out of his temporary SSBU retirement, at least for EVO, anyway. He may be a flavor of the month, but that flavor's gonna last if people like Tweek continue to rep him.

-:ultpalutena::ultwolf::ultness::ultyoshi: :ultshulk:are all pretty popular choices, but moreso at the lower half of the standings for the most part; with the exception of Nairo's and zackray's performances, these characters do perform well at lower level tournaments, but are generally more inconsistent at higher category tournaments; who knows, though, maybe things will change this time around. There's also something oddly poetic about FOW being paired up right NEXT to ven XD

- :ultyounglink::ultroy::ultfalcon: are seen a fairly decent amount as both mains and secondary picks; this makes sense for the latter two, as Roy is a generally easy character to pick up while also have a good matchup spread, while Young Link has a niche as a strong counterpick against characters who can't answer his wall of projectiles effectively. Captain Falcon is a bit of a mystery on the other hand, as only recently he's started turning up more frequently as a secondary; whatever he's got seems to be doing the job, though.

- Things are turning up for :ultpikachu:; despite only having two reps, they both fall just short of top 10, and seeing how VoiD has been rapidly improving with the yellow rat, be sure to keep a look out for it.

- :ultmario::ultlucina::ultfox::ultrob::ultgreninja:, and :ultpichu: all find themselves in pretty comfortable spots atm. Mario, R.O.B. Mega Man, and Lucina continue to experience stagnant, but nevertheless strong representation, and we can count on kameme, ProtoBanham, WaDi, and Prodigy to get pretty far. On the other hand, Fox, Greninja, and especially Pichu have all fallen a fair amount, with the lack of Eon or VoiD hurting both Fox and Pichu. Despite this, Pichu hasn't experienced the "overshadowed" syndrome like Marth has just yet, as there is a decent handful of players dedicated to him.

Aaaaannddddd that's about it. Overall, this is looking like a really diverse tournament, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens :>

I don't think that Ganondorf can be considered Nairo's secondary, anymore. At least not for tournaments
By that, one should add :ultdarkpit: and :ultrobinf:into the list of secondaries as well. I really doubt he'll use him. His fire he once had at Collision was already extinguished at Prime Saga.

Or I'm just a fool. One can't predict Nairo anyway...

Looking forward to Ven in particular. He's good chances of getting far with Rotsuko :ultyoshi: the 1st Top 100 player (he has good Mu experience there at least) and then Light.

But we're finally getting to see all BIG four Ness mains at an S-tier event and all of them are seeded in pretty much the same spot (like, Fow at 54th and Gackt at 60th). Will be interesting to see who of them gets farthest. Since I follow the Vegas scene the most, I'll kinda root for Fow there, but we'll.

Glutonny has a C. Falcon and Fatality could go Chrom but I don't know if he thinks he's tournament-ready with Chrom, yet.

I kinda figured that was the case, it's been a while since Nairo's ever used Ganon, at least for a tournament. And what's with all the :ultfalcon: secondaries all of a sudden? Yeesh.

Gackt, compared to the other 3 Ness mains, hasn't been doing quite as well lately, so I'm hoping he'll manage to pull through.

Rotsuko :ultyoshi: doesn't sound too bad for :ultzelda:, given ven's experience with fighting Snoop, but Light :ultfox: is definitely going to be quite the challenge. It would be quite the upset if he does manage to win against him.

For my interests (haha), Maister :ultgnw: is projected to fight Mew2King :ultlucina::ultbowser: as his first top 100 opponent. Lucina does give him trouble, but the match-up is certainly doable, and he has experience against her, courtesy of EarlofM.

Raito is most likely going to be his next major opponent and THAT is concerning to me, I'm pretty sure he has zilch experience against :ultduckhunt:, one of the worst characters to have no experience against.

Other than T (for obvious reasons), I'm hoping ESAM makes top 8. Idk I just like the guy.

I'm curious about Sparg0 as well. In CEO l, he got so damn far but the kid choked up hard on his match with Marss at the end (which started with him kicking ass). I think he possibly could have won that match. I'm hoping he can get over that and stay focused to take some more names this time.

I think people are starting to recognize :ultfalcon:‘s feats: even though his playstyle admittedly changed quite a bit, his proficency onstage (still got his throws and aerials in good hands), also his recovery is still a capable one. The reason why his representation has noticeably shortened is because the mechanics have benefited a lot of his more situational moves (Such as his specials) while his more recognizable moves (dash-grab) has been toned down. Despite all of this, it’s not like a major detriment or anything: it’s just gonna take time to adjust, and it’s even better when you get updated on such positive news (Patch 3.1.0).

Sparg0 is predicted to go up against crow :ultfox:, then Puppeh :ultpokemontrainer:, then Shuton :ultolimar:; it sounds like crow won't be too bad, but he said he doesn't have much fighting experience against PT, so Puppeh will most likely give him some trouble.

T is gonna have a pretty tough bracket on his hands: He's predicted to square off against Mr. R :ultchrom:, and then possibly Nairo :ultpalutena: right after.

ESAM looks like he'll have to go through his fears of Peach; he's first gonna most likely be squaring off against Ling Ling :ultpeach: and then possibly Sinji :ultpacman: afterwards.

A few notable standings after 100:

102. YOC :ultcloud:
110. Brosinex :ultryu::ultken:
111. Konga :ultdk:
112. BassMage :ultjigglypuff:
113. Widget :ultgnw:
115. Xzax :ultinkling:
120. MastaMario :ultmario:
124. Rickles :ultganondorf:

Some fast notes to write down:

-:ultmewtwo::ultcorrin::ultbowserjr::ultkirby::ultlittlemac::ultlucas::ultbrawler::ultgunner::ultswordfighter::ultpiranha::ultpit::ultdarkpit::ultrobin::ulticeclimbers::ultsheik::ultryu::ultken::ultkrool::ultjigglypuff::ultrichter::ultridley::ultmarth:, and for that matter, :ultsamus::ultsonic::ulttoonlink: are nowhere to be seen within the top 100 standings.

- Meanwhile, :ultisabelle::ultdoc::ultdk::ultincineroar::ultmetaknight::ultwiifittrainer::ultganondorf::ultsheik: are literally hanging as secondary strands that are pretty much clinging onto the coattails of high level players, despite the mostly positive reception the latter three seem to receive from top level players.

Overall, this is looking like a really diverse tournament, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens :>
crow is a Fox main, not Peach.

As for Gackt, he's a strange case. He does really well at the usual weeklies, but tends to fall short at major events, usually in the US. He will most likely run into Glutonny, assuming Shogun doesn't manage to upset him beforehand, and Fatality if everything goes as projected. Although I do feel he can make it a bit farther than expected, he has a tough bracket.

Not sure if this is how the final draft will look for the tourney. But I see a lot of Japanese players potentially facing off against each other, especially in losers, which doesn't surprise me considering how many are there.

Here's a more visual representation of all the characters being used by the Top 100 seeded players.

An example of how I did this is that Wolf is being used as either a main or a secondary 8 times so he gets put in the tier 8+.

Edit: Also, I'm sorry if I missed anything, I tried to make sure I was counting right. If I did, I'll put a note somewhere in this post.

Error Corrections:

Dedede should be in the 1 tier.

Dammit, I was thinking of SoCal's Crow XD Thanks for the heads-up, though, didn't realize there was a Japan player named crow.

Honestly, everyone's looking like they're going to have a rough time at EVO; I don't really blame any high level players for placing worse than they usually do this time around.

williamsga555 williamsga555 has corrected me. King Dedede should be in the tier for one player repping them.

You can look this data up at smash.gg -> EVO. Registration should be closed.
There are 3,524 entrants for Ultimate.

Also, if the seeding is correct and stays until EVO starts, then Salem and Leffen are finally projected to play each other. Would be interesting to see given their prior beef...

That's going to be interesting. Salem is godlike and plays the best character in the game in my opinion (:ultsnake:), so I can't wait to see what happens if this match does go down.

EVO schedule is out (stream times in the followup tweet)

Saturday is going to be brutal. Several players like Cosmos and MVD have confirmed their round 1 pools begin Saturday and they go through their pools/bracket all the way to top 8 on the same day. EVO's going to be an endurance test for these people.

With EVO approaching in a few days, I hope no one DQs the very last moment when the event starts... There are surely many good players we may not have heard of yet

Pretty sad. Maybe if both Leffen and Salem attend SSC and then this also happens there... it would be quite interesting

And now LeoN won't be able to attend EVO 2019, the best Bowser player in the world. What a real shame, he had a chance to show the real potential of this bad guy.

Yeah, he got stuck at the airport for anyone wondering.

That's a huge bummer :/.

So who would Leo and Salem be playing? :( Would LeoN and Leffen get money back from their EVO payments?

I've been wondering why BestNess was dqed as well. Looks like there were some personal issues.

Damn, I hope it doesn'T continue like this that top-players drop out unexpectedly.

EVO has begun, so hopefully there shouldn't be anymore instances of that happening.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's a different Daybreak that got sent to losers.

Airport conflicts dashes LeoN's plan on attending EVO 2019.

We won't be getting top level Bowser action for EVO this year unfortunately, unless there is another one attending I don't know of.

There's a thread on Reddit.

No big upsets first day. Brackets are projected to go fairly smoothly for the top seeds today. It's tomorrow when players are gonna start going out early.

I would also advise to use the EVO 2019 thread we have.

Zinoto dropped out besides BestNess, Leffen (lul) and LeoN.
Otherwise, I see no upsets as well. Everything besides these four cases goes as "planned" so far or I overlooked it which easily by these many brackets.

Probably the biggest upset today was Fullstream :ultinklingboy: 2-1 Ogey :ultwolf::ultfalcon: (158th seed).

A few things I picked up:

1. Nicko decidedly used :ultfalcon: during pools instead of :ultshulk:; this could be a sign that we can expect more Captain Falcon from him later on.
2. Marss :ultzss: almost ended up dropping a game again Toonhowl :ulttoonlink:, only barely winning off of a missed tech-ed BAir; it did look like Marss was starting to get flustered, and hopefully that doesn't happen later on.

Hmm did Takera not enter?
He hasn't played yet, but he will today. Pools got split up between players.

Ma...I wonder why Marss seem to have such struggles vs the Links. This is the second time he almost got upset hard vd
S some relatively unkown player using A link. Plus his loss to T back at Prime Saga
Have to give it to T. He's already dealt with almost every notable ZSS main in Japan numerous times, and it shows he has more experience in the MU than Marss.

First "big" upset:
Tyroy ( :ultjoker: ?) losing to Toski :ultsnake:, sending him to Losers.
Tyroy still made it out, though.
