EVO 2016: Signup to Help Be Part of History as a Tournament Judge

It's May. The Evolution Championship Series is almost here.

This year's EVO is expecting record-breaking turnout. The best tournaments start with the best volunteers, and EVO is always in need of volunteers to support the main staff.

The Super Smash Bros. competitive community knows how to rally to help make an event great. It's vital that we show to the world that we are readily available to help with EVO 2016 given that we were honored for the second time with both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U at EVO.

In order to provide an awesome experience for everyone attending EVO 2016, we need YOUR help! We have opened a tournament judge application form for members who want to help run brackets. All you’ll need to do is visit the registration page and fill out the form: http://evo.shoryuken.com/judge-application-form

The Tournament Judge role is a volunteer position and hard work, but there are still some great perks. We will provide food for the days you judge for all judges on Friday and Saturday and judges receive an official Tournament Judge T-shirt for EVO 2016. Run enough brackets and you will be given a general admission (lower bowl) ticket to the Mandalay Bay Events Center for Sunday’s Top 8 Finals!

Applicants should be familiar with a double-elimination bracket and have a passion for competitive gaming. You will be notified via e-mail if you have been accepted as a judge for EVO 2016, so make sure to double check your contact information before you submit the form. Judges are required to provide their own transportation and lodging in Las Vegas.EVO 2016 is scheduled for July 15-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada. More details can be found through the official website. http://evo.shoryuken.com/

The EVO 2016 team greatly appreciate all volunteer tournament judges. Please apply as soon as possible. We're looking forward to July 2016!

Plenty of reasons. Mainly, Apex used to be THE super smash bros world finals. back in 2010 - 2013 there were only like 2 super majors a year, and Apex would always be the biggest one. Apex 2015 was the largest tournament of all time up to that point, and the first to ever break 1k entrants. Pretty much the same thing can be said for every Apex. Now, after 2015, we have tons of supermajors that are bigger than Apex. Smash at Evo 2015 was HUGE, and is undoubtedly gonna be even bigger this year (i mean they have a ****ing stadium for top 8 lol), and not to mention Genesis and Pound returned, and The Big House has become bigger than Apex as well. To be honest, not only are other tournaments growing like crazy, but Apex 2016 is probably gonna be SMALLER than last year. Way less top players are going because they picked a horrible date for the tournament, instead of their usual January time slot. That decision makes 0 sense because sure more people are open in the summer, but even top players still valued Apex, it's a week before WTFox and CEO, and the same DAY as Low Tier City (seriously look up the calender for smash majors in summer it's crazy). If i had to say, it's probably because they have a new team after they dropped Alex Strife.

They should just drop the name Apex honestly
tbh I was thinking the same thing since there's such a bad connotation with the name Apex from their "questionable" decision making on running tournaments in the past, but Apex just has too much history behind the name to just be thrown away i guess. I mean Apex was THE smash world finals for years, so the legacy was probably valued too much in their eyes.
