Legumes have a similar story to grains; they weren’t consumed by the paleo hunter-gatherer because they needed to be cooked in order to be edible. Legumes also have similar traits to grains in their make-up; they contain phytates which inhibit nutrient absorption and cause inflammation. They also contain lectins and play with healthy hormonal functions.
Types of legumes to avoid on the paleo diet include lentils, all beans (such as kidney beans, pinto beans and broad beans), peanuts (peanuts are a legume not a nut), soy beans and chickpeas.
Plus peanuts are basically pellets of fat your body can't easily break down.

Bacon turned me in to this.

You can virtually SQUEEZE the oil out of things like Peanuts, Sesame or Pumpkin Seeds ... how does this relate to "a lot of processing"?

:059:
Okay, I double checked and I'm actually a little wrong on some of these. Here's a chart:

http://i.imgur.com/yEDkG.png

Peanut's a lot better than I thought, about in line with lard and grass-fed butter. But olive/coconut/avocado/hemp/macadamia's better.

The really bad ones are soy/corn/canola/anything hydrogenated. The ones you find in generic cheap vegetable oil blends and margarine.

can I live on a diet of only vitamin gummy bears and water?
I know you're probably joking, here's a serious answer. You wouldn't be getting any protein, so it would only be sustainable in the short term. You also wouldn't get any fiber or fat so you would either have to consume way too many calories in order to become satiated or be hungry most of the time. It also doesn't cover all of the vitamins so you would develop deficiencies. Also, since some vitamins are fat soluble, some of the vitamins in the gummy bears wouldn't even be absorbed by your body. The ones that can be, however, you would be getting way too much of them and put additional stress on your system. It's a bad idea from all aspects.

I've lost 68lbs on the Atkins diet. I mostly eat red meat, eggs, nuts and nutrient dense vegetables like spinach, cucumber, bell pepper, onion...

All the info I've learned in the past 8 months reflects everything in the first two posts. It inspired me to the point that I'm going to college to become a licensed dietician in the summer.

By the way, recent studies have disproven the "skipping meals is bad for you mantra" and is the entire reasoning behind intermittent fasting diets. The point is to fast for 16 hours a day. Long enough that your body uses even more of your fat stores, but not long enough to cause your body to hoard. Fasting also has benefits on your liver. Activating your metabolism is also a myth. Your body will burn the same amount of calories if you eat 8 meals, or one large meal as long as the calorie intake is the same. The potential problem with fasting is nutrient deficiency. If the person doesn't know what he's doing, and isn't careful about what and when he does, they'll become fatigued and run in to other complications.

I've been fasting for the past three months. My stgone problems are mostly gone. Virtually no gas or bloating, I great. I dont feel hungry during the fasting periods because my body has adjusted to the change, and I feel great. I even took it a step.further and only eat 1000-1200 calories. For those interes my basal metabolic rate is close to 5000 during the fasting period. I've dropped 5-7lbs/week when I do this.

Enjoy your yo-yo effect.

I know this is a big bump, but I have to disagree on one thing: cooking with olive oil. Olive oil has one of the lowest heat tolerances (where it goes rancid or whatever if heated too high)

So basically, what i'm trying to say is that even though olive oil is "healthier" than other oils, that's only if it hasn't been heated or cooked with.

One thing I love about my body is that it always stays slim even though I am like a pig when I eat. Whenever people ask me why I am like this, I was like "I have a very, very fast metabolism" which is like saying I go to bathrooms a lot. Though, I make sure that I balance what I eat everyday.

That or you're just genetically predisposed to be skinny. If you ever cared to gain muscle, you'd probably have a very difficult time.

Most legumes are coated in an enzyme that your body can't break down.
It is not difficult to get rid of the majority of lectins via soaking and boiling.

There are many ways to skin the proverbial cat. Paleo is one way, but (and I have not read through this entire massive thread, just the OP) if you're not eating free-range/organic meats/eggs/dairy, you're ****** your body.

I am vegan both for dietary concerns and moral concerns.

Anyone who thinks these moral concerns aren't bounded in the scientific method should check out The Secret Life of Plants by Peter Tompkins.

i'm curious i eat zero right now..just fried chick thighs.(no breading or season) and water
i do add salt substitute (extra potassium)

i wondering about adding fat more in terms of heavy cream/butter cream cheese ..macadamian nuts..

but want eat the same amount meat..will excess fat just excrete out and not add weight gain? so say i eat 10 thighs fried a day..if i have 8oz heavy cream to diet will it cause faster weight loss r nothing r gain?

right now ratio is 50:50
fat:protein

The universe operates in a very simple manner. Like attracts like. If you think and talk and act out a lot of disbelief, that is all you'll attract. That is why you tend to see what affirms your beliefs. You are constantly being bombarded with evidence to the contrary, of course, but you only pick up what you are open to.

So no, I don't "want" anyone to read anything. If they are ready for it, the opportunity is there. If it is not meant for them then they pass it up. The enjoyment I got out of that post (and this one) was intrinsic; validation is not needed.

If you like I could quote something from the book.

Lower your protein if you wana lose weight faster. Try 75/25/0

Dairy can cause inflammation, which is why many diets recommend avoiding it. If it doesn't cause you inflammation personally, then just make sure your dairy isn't nonfat. Go for whole fat. Also, butter and oils for the win.

Eat more sodium. You're probably sodium deficient.

Be careful with potassium.

I hope you're eating plenty of vegetables because I can't imagine trips to the little boys' room are too pleasant on such a diet if you don't.
