Tai let the lasers hit you. You're shielding lasers and doing full hop fairs from too far away. Even if you were to powershield from that distance you wouldn't get a frame advantage on an approach. You're forfeiting options without threatening him. Use dash attack/dash away grab instantly out of laser stun more imo. Or if he just spams lasers in place just let lasers hit you as you walk towards him until you are pressuring his space and forcing him to do something you can react to. By shielding from that distance it just narrows down what he has to prepare for and puts him in a better position to counter whatever you do.

You could. I've been trying not JC unless a JC grab is absolutely necessary(ex: out of a dash towards a falling fox) so I don't get in the habit of hitting jump before every grab. I hate it when I try to grab someone who just landed behind me but didn't turn around because I JC it instead of turning and grabbing. ><

I'd actually like some newbs to come in asking for help, aka this thread's purpose! haha

I'm gonna start practicing more and especially with my friend Chris who goes to Umcp. Smashers probably know him as CTL from whoever knows Chris.
Round 1-5:

Usually when I upload vids they don't take this long, but I just got a new computer and the matches I recorded were in Avi format (I forgot to switch to MPEG 1/2) and past 15 minutes. For some reason I could upload things 15 minutes and longer before, but not on my new computer. I found that weird. So I just split the 5 matches up using Windows Movie Maker. I wish Melee had a save replay function lmao.

How does one easily JC Grab in Melee? I usually set my L to jump in brawl and JC Usmash Out of shield or Jumpshine or Full hop laser with Wolf.

I still gotta train for brawl for pound 5, but I'll try to play a little Melee friendlies too (Obviously not entering Melee teams/singles).

Nair isn't as safe as it looks. Doing a fast fall fair is much safer and it also leaves more options because you don't have to commit to the nair as early. I actually like the way TAI uses nair.

mind elaborating on that?

fair vs nair is something i think about a decent bit, and i can't express in words what situations i would use one and when i would use the other.

if i were to pull an explanation out of my *** about how to space them....

i'd say that fair has a more simple and predictable timing, but it has a lot more coverage and it's easier to use and a little better for like, swatting people away

and nair is sorta hard to get between, but way easier to get around/over/under. also, the fact that you can autocancel it is pretty cool sometimes, and 1 nair covers an entire shorthop, while a fair only covers like, half.

so i guess, if you want your aerial to last a long time/multihit (on shields, or if they're waiting to find a timing window to **** you or something), use nair, if you want something quick and safe-ish, use fair.

and if your opponent is a bad person and tries to get under/crouch cancel your aerials, shield, grab, dair, or use ground attacks. or you can try to play the spacing/timing game and hit with a tipper fair, but you have to get a tipper or they'll CC it.

Nair also seems to be one of Marth's best shield poking moves so if I get somebody shielding on the edge of a platform or something I'll usually try to nair them from underneath.

Well I started playing my brother more today and incorporated more Fair. I like using Young Link, Doctor Mario, and Luigi too.

so im tryin to work on my marth more and I want to know if I can get some advice on some of the things I should and shouldn't be doin.

any input would help.
Quick input: stop playing above Marth. When cornered, don't try to waveland above him on platform. That works on a lot of characters, but never against Marth. Stop jumping up and around him and figure out a way to land. Be more comfortable with your dash dance/ground game. Crouch cancel and stuff. Think more in between stocks; look at your options during his invincibility.

Rewatch the matches with that in mind and see what you could have done differently. Especially look at your tendency to try to jump over and around Marth.

Haha, I know. I just don't know what happened. 1 month ago, he was easily my best character and everything went well, then it all just went to ****.
