@cactuar: when i was watching you vs chillin game 1 i was noticing how much he liked to spotdodge to break out of tech chases and when he couldnt grab/aerial OoS he would fullhop needle cancel to pressure you into retreating. What exactly were you picking out of chillin's sheik when you were playing it?

I think she did it because Chu input the wavedash and then hit A at some point, but Popo couldn't complete the action because he was caught in some animation, but Nana followed through.

@Sveet: Uhhhh. While I was playing, I was trying to remember how to play against Sheik with Marth because its been years since I played the matchup, but I noticed as we started that he was initially trying to bair spam, which doesn't work vs Marth because you can just slide into it as they come down and shieldgrab it. I also quickly noticed that he wasn't punishing low recovery, so I used that pretty consistently. He wasn't using quick wavedashes onto the stage while keeping invuln so I stayed at a safe edgeguard spacing and kept him on the ledge. After he used spotdodge a few times early I started waiting for the dodge or shield. If he landed on my shield with an aerial, his default pressure was mostly ftilt to jabs so I would shield that until I felt I could escape/take a jab and sdi out/grab it, or if he landed bair on the back of my shield, he went for a grab, but that only happened once I think. His needle game was working to my favor because I'm also old school and play very well against the sheik "triangle".

On battlefield, he started punishing me when I went high, so I mixed in a lot more sh and ground movement, which is why you'll see my movement increase in speed compared to how I was playing on FD, which was relying on the shdj bait and just zoning him (I was getting stuffed a lot early on FD, but that was mostly because I was trying to figure out "safe" spacings for things that I used to use in this matchup). I still used the shdj bait, but only at a safe spacing so he couldn't get under or behind me. Don't feel like writing this all up, but you get the point.

I'm an ex-Brawler (also Brawl+) and picked up Melee a week ago.

I still need time to get used to Melee and its ATs since it's actually the first time I really play melee. So you don't need to tell me that I miss L-cancels or mess up wavedashes. I'm aware of that.

However, what do you think of my Marth?
It's the white one.

Sorry for the poor quality, I'm gonna get a video grabber soon so i can record with higher quality.

REF : REVAN

Thanks ;)

You won't do well in a tournament right now, but you have good potential. I liked some of your spacing choices and how you were baiting your opponent's fsmash (which was pretty much his only move). You can WD and SHFFL. Just keep playing (against people other than this guy) and you'll get better and better.

What do you mean by advancing aerials?

yeah i noticed for my self that i roll too much, i need to get rid of it.

Thanks for the kind words sveet, the problem is that Melee isn't popular anymore and he's pretty much the only guy to play against <.<
Good thing tho he wants to get better too and hopefully will stop spamming the smash lol.

Doing an aerial while moving forward
It's usable with fastfallers, but it's terrible with Marth the way you're doing it haha

You do stuff like rising Fair while moving forward ... every character in the game has something fast enough to punish you for that (probably)

Approaching autocancel Nair is maybe usable if you're spacing it correctly

Run -> crouch -> Dtilt is a pretty good "approach" with Marth I believe ... if you can call it that xD

You want them in your tipper range not too close...but not too far :)

I guess it is kind of like how fox or falco apply pressure when they get inside, Marth shuts someone down without actually applying shield pressure.

In game 3, tai, I cringed when you didn't dair him, I think you ran off and countered, good **** though.

Eh, Germany has a fair amount of melee players and judging from their forums also has melee tournaments. :)

Isn't Ice from Germany? Look him up man, one of the best Marths out there currently imo.

And dam Tai, I'm like salty for you. You had that ****. Really impressive sheik game, though.

You are advancing...I guess and spacing your fairs pretty poorly in the beginning of match 1. You also found yourself stuck in shield whiffing some pretty bad shield grab attempts. Wavedash out of shield to gain a more advantageous position.

Stop spot dodging so much.

Really just work on your spacing and try to be a little less aggro. You over commit to your short hop fairs. Try doing late, fast falled fairs for a change. They are much safer.

Hey at 4:12 why did u throw forward tai and not up. At 6:53 three I thoughtshould'v been going agro like this the whole game. Stay agro :) even if ur airs don't hit l cancel dodge, or dash dance, roll, jump, input button command, I understand why u shielded though. Or just Nair l cancel into jab or f tilt or stilt or another Nair while keeping space. Like Ken used to do my sensei:) I understand meta game blah blah but I've been studying kens footage for about five years straight now and wouldn't mind conversing bout it. He would Nair alot and keep space, ***** alot of chained l cancels attacks and randomly dash away and then towards u keeping the agro up not that Marth wasn't cheap already. I recommend watching some Ken footage on the whoring Nairs while keeping space. I recommend dreamland evo set 2 vs mango. Mini jump Nair is anawesome agro. Just randomly jump at ni@@as. U were doing it earlier on battlefield I think.

Aber2491:

Just watched the first match so far. Um ... from what I saw I gather you don't know how to get around lasers well. I noticed a lot of rolling and just generally getting hit by them when you were on the ground and could have easily shielded them.

You generally don't want to full jump in that matchup because if Falco is able to get under you all of your priority means little against his rising bair and spaced lasers as you land. One exception is when you're retreating or if you have a platform below to reduce your vulnerability afterward. Also, make sure to use fast falls to further decrease the time you have to spend in the air.

Remember that once you get Falco above you, it's important to stay essentially below him at all times to maximize your positional advantage. So, once you get Falco onto a platform, for instance, it's not really a good idea to full jump fair in order to try and hit him, because if he shields it he'll probably be able to get to the ground faster than you can, which results in an inversion of your positional advantage in his favor. So, yeah ... keep that in mind.

Try to shield Falco's lasers and wavedash out of shield to better position yourself. If that's too difficult for now, at least try to stuff Falco's approaches by sheidling the laser -> SH retreating fair out of shield.

I'd work on those aspects of your game for now. They seem to be the biggest things.

I don't think I played very well this weekend (then again I hardly ever think I play well... :p), and don't think I managed to do any of the stuff niko suggested, but nontheless here's a new set with that falco (I play against him again in a later set that isn't uploaded yet... Win matches in that one). This time with sound :p

Also: 1:44-1:48 in that match. I clearly should've won just for that :)

Edit: Oh and I also ended up switching to sheik to beat that Samus again... I'm starting to think my sheik is simply just still better even though I have hardly used her for about a year... =/

Is everyone who thinks they are good enough to critique videos on vacation or something?

Niko, Sveet, TAI, Cactuar, CrimsonBlur, Dart, SpamArrows, rest of the dedicated Marth boards.

A lot of us want critique for our sucky Marths but this thread has been dead the past week or so...
