I've been thinking. As I've gotten on in years, I've lost my interest in competitive Smash. The competitive ruleset just isn't as much fun anymore, and my old joints can't keep up with you young whippersnappers.

I propose a senior tour (doesn't golf have something like that?). It could be called the Aged Smasher Series. Let's go back to the old rules where all the stages were legal and you could ban one (1) and items were on. And instead of money (which makes things get too competitive), prizes should be things we older people would be more interested in, like Hometown Buffet coupons and rocking chairs.

This would bring a lot of the older folks back into the community, and they'll be inclined to share more of their wisdom with everyone else. It could have far-reaching benefits.

Wow this is an amazing idea. I think to qualify, your age + number of years since you've played competitively should be greater than 25. No young whippersnappers allowed.

I've always wondered how the metagame would've developed under these settings, now we'll finally know! Jigglypuff sucks with items though.

I honestly like the idea, seriously.

That's one thing that's always bugged me about this game that I've actually never griped about.

People are so hell bent on "the tournament ruleset" and what's "right and fair" and all this ****, but there's so many ways to play the game, and then so much has been cut out of it.

Whatever happened to low tier tourneys?
What WOULD happen on old stages?
Hell, I've gone as far as to think "well, how good could some people do on a banned stage tourney?"

__

and question about the smash age.

Is it years since you've played competitively (as in "I haven't played in ___ years) or years that you have played competitively?

You know, at FC Diamond me and Eddy were talking about how we'd be really interested to see how an items on tournament would work at that point in the metagame. We also would have enjoyed it as a lot of the people that play now have no idea what they can do with items.

Pssh, 25 is too small a number. I'll be 28 this year, and I've played since 2004, giving me a score of 34. I don't remember if I'm older than AOB or not.

low tier tournaments are boring because low tiers are boring. Most of them have very limited options so they just end up spamming their few good moves. Plus most of them are floaties so there aren't that many epic combos like you have vs fastfallers/sheik; no one wants to watch Young Link fight Zelda.

Sounds interesting. I'm 26 so I guess I qualify?

Also AOB stop making old geezer johns. We're around the same age and my fingers can still keep up with these snot nose brats:mad:!

****, years SINCE I last played competitively knocks me out of it. That's uncool as my regular old boring age isn't enough. I'm too hip for you oldies. I'm fly like a pelican.

Well I'm turning 25 this year and but I think I'm still under the new school people since I started playing competitive 3 and a half years ago now? Idk much about items and all that.. but I'm sure it would be fun. How would one arrange such a tournament anyway? I could bust out my Link/Samus just like when I started playing this when it came out. =P

Just turned 22 and entered my first Melee tournament at age 14. Where did my youth go? :(

Yes next week. It's too late to do this week. And it'll be in Melee Discussion, not here.

Wasn't that when Leonardo got knocked on the head and thought he was one of the Three Musketeers?

Haha, great episode.

See, I would not have seen the thread if you hadn't posted the link. I had already forgotten to check for it.

Tims age is from when he stopped playing, not when he started.

And I maintain that Snex is still one of the coolest people there is. He even has a Delorean.

also amorasaki. lol
Good call. Not counting one or two random appearances since then, he stopped regularly attending tournaments after FoB3 in 2004. That puts him at 33. Sorry Tim.

I'm trying to remember when I stopped traveling to tournaments. Maybe 2007? That would put me at 29. And when you guys add it up correctly, I don't think you'll be 28 or 31. Then again, I think years since you started playing competitively makes more sense. That would put Grid at 34 and me at 33. Eddie would probably be near 40.

What is this about snex in a DeLorean?
