TIL this was a thing. I don't know who was more surprised, me or my opponent, but I accidentally did this in tourney. I don't recall if I used the strike or not, but I edge-canceled the end of DC on PS2's platform. Seems like it could be useful for tech chasing. Burst speed ftw.

I'm actually not sure how the physics of the edge cancelled DC is when you do it on a platform and land on stage. I think it was better in 3.02 because if you did it off the edge of the stage, you could get an edge cancel and your hitbox would still come out and you can immediately do another action in the air. Now though you tumble for a second if I remember correctly, so would this mean you have to tech before you hit the ground if you did it on a platform above the stage? Seems like an interesting thing if you can somehow get it down consistently.

I'll have to see if I can get it consistently. If I can, I'll report back with what the options are out of it

I've been aware of things and I've messed around with it before, but the spacing is too specific to do consistently in a match

this is actually my specialty. I am extremely good at consistently edge canceling the down b. It is a situational tech, but its uses are mainly for spacing and the ability to cover ground quickly. It is your fastest horizontal movement tool you have. Here is an example of me using it https://youtu.be/vtIFgbnNKYw?t=13m9s. Also, when you can consistently do the lunge forward IDC along with turning around MK, you can do stuff like this http://gfycat.com/GraciousOilyAstarte

Yeah as far as I can remember (since 3.0 anyway) this has been a thing, although the extremely situational usefulness + strict timing (if you mess it up, you're gonna eat a BUNCH of percent) makes me never want to rely on it ever in a tournament match. Still pretty cool to do, though.

EDIT: A DC-related tech that I think will be useful is IDC OoS (Instant Dimensional Cape Out-of-Shield). It's hard to do with default controls but I use Z for specials to perform any IDC option quickly and reliably. Starting to incorporate it more in my practice sessions; it's certainly not one of our fastest OoS options but it does cover more space than the others, especially against more powerful hits that send you away in your shield and would normally be safe.

Still playing around with it but I think it could be a thing. I'd suggest giving it a try as well.

Oh sweet I've been messing around with IDC edge cancelling lately

on Green Hill Zone I've been getting the edge cancels somewhat often now. Out of a stand I can pretty much get it every time, and out of a Dash I can get it like 25% (maybe less) of the time.
