Who is the easiest character to start at least competing at tournaments? I know it may depend from player to player, but the general consensus.

Sheik, then probably Marth and Puff. No character is easy though. I'd say especially with Marth, once you are at a mid level, you'll find a ton of players who know how to exploit his weaknesses.

Depends who you want to beat and what you want to do.

If you want to randomly upset someone good with minimum practice, IC's or Puff are best.

If you want to practice no techskill, Puff and Sheik will get you the farthest before you have to learn it.

If you want to, immediately, start beating people at a low level, Peach is the best probably if you crouch cancel downsmash.

If you're willing to practice techskill but think you'll have difficulty with patience, Fox/Falco will get you the farthest.

If you want to get really good but don't want to spend time outside of tournament practicing ever, Puff is best.

If you want to be the best player in the world in the lowest possible number of years, I recommend Fox or Falco.

You never have to practice anything if you play Peach. All you need to know is how to float and crouch cancel. And down smash, pull/throw turnips, and space fair/nair/bair with floats. There's not that much to her you'll need beyond that. She gets away with so much during the neutral spacing game. She doesn't get comboed as easily as the others

Sheik, by far. All of her combos are intuitive, very little tech skill is required, her ledgeguarding skills are very good, and she has great matchups against almost every character.

Jifflypuff looks easy, but is very difficult to play above a mid level (look at her representation). Puff requires an intimate understanding of spacing, stage control, and DI to play at a high level. Also, due to puff's weight and (low) speed, most puff mains hit a wall (of fox) and either quit or switch to a more durable character.

Marth. F-smashing is the entierety of Marth's basic techniques, though he can get a little complicated when it comes to the later stuff.
