Disclaimer: This project is entirely FOR FUN.
Much of what you will see in this thread will be subjective, can be changed at whim, and is open to discussion.

That being said, welcome to the SSB4 Dr. Mario forums of Smashboards! Everyone should be aware being a doctor is an incredible feat. That shouldn't discourage you from trying to be more like Dr Mario, who is Mario, but definitely winning in life in more than one way.

We're not exactly the largest community out there, but many of us are quite dedicated, like Mario himself when he wants to really win at life. That being said, winning at life as a doctor is much easier said than done, and is most efficiently achieved through the assistance and example of others. Others who have invested in this field before you can add to your insight on becoming successful. Finally, the field of medicine is constantly begging to be pushed to the limit, so by all means, show us all what you are capable of!

(Please use this thread both to promote demonstrations of your skill via tournament results and especially videos, and to discuss and test each other's skill)

Is Dr. Slate the same person as Dr~S? If they aren't, then Dr~S should be on there either A or S

I'm almost certain they're the same person.

Also if people are going to throw out names, videos would be much appreciated, something I know I intend to update on the main post showcase highlights.

Is this list based on results and tangible skill or is it based on contribution to the Dr. Mario community?

I'm just curious.

Pretty sure that the former contributes to the placing moreso than the latter.

Anyway, I might as well link some vids of Koolaid's Doc. Starting with his most recent tournament videos.

KTAR XV
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwiKJrs1yI4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWyUyp9SbKY&nohtml5=False - Second game he goes Doc.

Pound 2016
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0zw3tbj15E&nohtml5=False - Last game.

There are more matches but I thought these would be more relevant.

Oh, and Kudemo is another Doc player that should be added. He has a channel where he posts matches/friendlies with top Swiss/French players.

Dr~S and Dr. Slate are not the same person. Dr~S's YouTube channel name is Dr. Steven.

Also do we have definitions for what makes a player fit a tier? I was trying to see where I would fit on this list but I have no idea.

Yes we do. From my other tier thread for Ganon players, it kinda goes like this:

S/A: Either top level placings or wins against notable competitive players
B: Demonstrates solid execution of advanced Dr Mario play
C: Strong basic mastery of the character
D: Learning Dr Mario
E: Literally new to playing

As far as I know, my own placing is probably going to be the most controversial thing on this tier list, given subjective self advocacy. To defend myself, I've had a few top 8 and top 5 placings as Dr Mario in tournaments that range from about 40-50 entrants on average, and I've beaten Sonicmega in tournament, known to be the best Mega Man in SoCal and gets pretty solid tournament results locally. I could be argued for top of B tier depending on people's perception of "significant". For what it's worth, I'm commonly called the best Dr. Mario in my region...which is more testament to how few people play the character admittedly.

That being said, in the grand scheme of things, I've won money with Dr Mario, and I've beaten some reasonably significant names, though my next goal is to take down the PR.

Unfortunately I'm using school wifi which restricts me from linking YouTube videos, but there is a set where he won against GreenBeast, at the time #1 ranked player in Illinois. No idea if he stil is #1. That was the only footage I could find.

Also regarding the tier list thing now that you explain it I'd probably put myself in between C and D. I wouldn't say I have completely strong mastery of him but I'm not at that level where I am still trying to learn him.

My only notable tournament results are from local tournaments. Hopefully over the summer I'll be able to go to more Chicagoland tournaments.

I'm a TO in Woingespottel's region.
I can't think of any notable player attending our regionals that he beat.
Can you point me to those results?
I'm genuinely not trying to flame, but I was so surprised to see him here.

As I've stated before a lot of it is subjective but your perception would obviously help.

I consider myself on the lower end of Dr Mario players who has proven able to place decently and win against fairly notable players against a local level. From personal observation, I think Woingespottel is a more skilled player than me, and my placing is somewhat reflective of that.

I've heard (somewhat vaguely) that he has consistently placed pretty well locally. But I don't know his regional meta.

Well, this sounds a bit like I'm going on a witch hunt, but whatevs.

He only attends my locals, which are anywhere between 25 and 40 players. Sometimes a notable name like cyve shows up, but usually not - usually we have 3-4 players who would place Top16 at a national, and then the level drops rapidly.

SiS#1 - He did not attend this event.
SiS#2 - August 2015 - He drowned in pools and then lost in round 1 of the "amateur bracket" which we play (single elimination for everyone who didn't get out of pools)
SiS#3 - November 2015 - He drowned in pools and then got 3rd at the "amateur bracket". He did not beat any notable players in this tournament. Only notable result is a 0-2 against Koyu, a top 20 ranked Pit player in Germany.
SiS#4 - Also November 2015 - Did not attend

SiS#5 - This is when my locals started gaining a lot less attention due to not being a novelty in the area anymore. Before this, we had 40 people attending every Event and top5 always consisting of notable German players. Here is Spottels first notable result, 9th place.
Let's analyze Spottels placement here.

His pool consistend of Koyu, KingKev, BigBadWolf, SANNY and Didi. He lost to Koyu and won against the rest.
Koyu, again, being a notable Pit (and by now Corrin) player in Germany.
KingKev, BigBadWolf, SANNY and Didi are not notable players on a national level. Unfortunately we do not have an up to date power ranking on a national level (I'm working to fix this), but you need to remember that a national level over here in Europe is comparable to a "state" over in the United States. We're not that big.

After leaving pools with a second place seeding, he proceeded to:
- lose 0-2 against me, and I usually place around 33rd at our 128 man "nationals"
- 2-0 win against Malte41, who was a newcomer R.O.B.
- 1-2 loss against Meutrich, who is a Sheik that places similarly to me

Unfortunately I have to say that winning against Malte41, Didi, SANNY, BigBadWolf and KingKev does not make you a notable player in Germany. These names mean about as much to the average German player as they do to you - I love these guys and they attend my locals, but they're just not relevant (yet, until they grind it up, which they do here!).

Now last Saturday we had SiS#6. Spottel placed fifth! That's good, right?
Let's have a look at that:

His pool consisted of Moussa, Samu, OmegaPerfect and Caneki.
The only "notable" player here could be Moussa. Let's take his placement from the national at the end of March, PPT.
Moussa placed 49th at the 150 man "supernational" we had. 2 months prior to that, he placed 25th at a 100 man national.
Spottel got 0-2'd by Moussa, then won against the rest (Samu is the only person on that list who didn't attend his first tournament in SiS6 - that was Samus second one). The rest will be as unknown to the average German player as to you (again, no offense intended, I love these guys, but we're trying for healthy self-perception here).
That means Spottel survived the pool phase, and subsequently:

2-0 Liquidmars (local Mario player)
1-2 Kweet (very notable Meta Knight player, and he did take a game off of him! That's cool!)
2-0 Caesurios (a very fresh and new Cloud player)
2-0 Samu
0-2 Moussa

Now I'm noticing a theme here.

In January 2016, I created a Power Ranking for our region. It is out of date, as it did not include SiS5 and SiS6 (I will sit down and actually update the ranking now, I'll come back to you later).
Now my Region, Baden-Württemberg, is one of 16 regions in Germany.
In this region, in January 2016, Spottel was ranked 20th.
The only person he beat since then that was ranked above him in that PR was Didi (17th) and BigBadWolf (19th).
If you look at it, he achieved rank 20 without ever surviving the pool phase, and now he started getting outta those, so take that into account.

I'll update the PR, especially since it's hard to reflect on how good the newcomers in our region are, and I'll get back to you.
I'm not trying to bash on Spottel here at all, but I hope you now understand that I really did gasp out loudly at his placement in your list right next to Nairo over there, because that's not what I've seen from him so far. To be fair, I also really don't know any other Doc players. Maybe there's just too few of you.

Edit: Just updated my powerranking.
Spottel's now 11th in this 1/16th Region of Germany.
https://www.smashlabs.de/thread/5355-baden-württemberg-power-ranking
(please note that due to the local nature of this PR, activity is a factor as well as skill - cyve is the most skilled player in this list.)

K Konneh dully noted. Moved him down as appropriate, though it should be kept in mind. Nairo's ranking is largely influenced by tournament inactivity with Dr Mario.

Hey I made it onto the board :D

But anyways I think if I attended more tournaments I would be able to prove i'm somewhere among the A tier crowd. Either way I think this is a good motivator for Doc's to appear on the list and push his meta forward. Thanks for the list A2Z.

Also, where does TheRealCarterer stand? He is much more versed in tech than myself and labs quite a lot, though from what I last heard he rarely goes to tournaments? I'm not going to speak for him, but I do hope he sees this list.

Some names worth mentioning:
Caste
TheRealCarterer
Berto

Damn, forgot about him. He's definitely got to be here.

There are some videos of TRC in tournament. I will see if I can find them and update this post.

I like this thread as a fellow Doc main. If I had to rank myself on this list, I would between B & C

Now, I haven't been to tourneys in awhile, but hopefully that'll change sometime in the days to come.

This is where I'd put myself as well. I'm new to tournaments though, and nerves sometimes get to me. Hopefully it changes, soon.

Yeh I'd put you top of C-tier. You can focus more on learning matchups and refining responses to player meta, getting more comfortable with situational followups, and you should become better once you get a hang of those.

We need more representatives here to fill out the gaps though.

Thanks Eight_SixtyFour and Clock Tower Prison :)

I think I should be in C or B Tier, I play the doc since the european release of the game and I did some good placements in my region. I'm currently top 10 in Switzerland : https://www.smashlabs.de/thread/5259-swiss-smash-4-power-ranking/
Conservatively, knowing little about your region, but watching some of your videos, I think B tier is pretty appropriate. Definitely a competent Doc. While you know the character pretty well, I do think sometimes you could press your advantage a bit more finely, with things like Tornado edge trap and ledge trumps especially.

In random news, while the significance of this can be argued, I did recently take a game off K9's Diddy (#4 player in SoCal) in tournament. Just to defend my assertion that I am in fact a strong enough player to be a threat at high levels.

I will attempt to get some of my play on the stream on the next tournament I attend. Hopefully I do my best so I can show I deserve to at least be C-tier on the list. Wish me luck my fellow M.D.s!

Well since we're posting videos of our plays then I guess i'll pitch in with this video. I don't post too often but here is a play by me vs a Villager. I'll also be attending more tournaments over the summer thanks to free time.

You have a lot of wasted movement and attacks, and this is FG. Not that I'm better or anything but you should try to slow down. Also I can't wait to see how you do in tourney I love to see Doc wreck people. Good Luck

Yeah I tend to play aggressively so it will lead me to do things unnecessarily, but so far I haven't had issues with it. Iv'e developed more muscle memory since the making of that video so reverse bairs from fthrow is now much more fluid for me, reverse pill, and cape are also much easier to pull off. I have 2 more recent videos showing signs of progression, but I definitely feel like if I went to tournaments consistently id be able to give my placement some substance if not in A tier.

As a sidenote, not sure how significant this is but I did get 1st at a resurrection bracket at a tournament. (Basically beat people who went 0-2, 1-2 in tournament).

Here is the bracket but unfortunately they didn't finish recording the final match lol :/

I should upload and post some Doc videos here before the new patch shows up. Their wifi matches so....yeah. (No For Glory)

Basically demonstrating some mind reading kill set-ups and fallow up combos. I've been labbin' with Dr. Mario recently.

EDIT:

EDIT:
Now, this video clearly doesn't demonstrates how to play against Cloud, but I do show some uniqueness with kill set up/reads.

I did saved another video truly demonstrating the Cloud match up (Same player in the video) but it ended up in a jv 3 stock.
