And why? It's simple, really...

We already have Luigi, so what's the point?
If Luigi plays somewhat similarly to Mario, it would be a waste of space to have a literal clone of Mario playing in the exact same fashion as him.

He was only included for his theme music and this was in fact admitted
Yes, Sakurai did say this once.

And the best for last:

He IS Mario
Need I say more?

You can come up with whatever fanboyish comments you want about how he plays differently and pwns and stuff, but it doesn't hide the fact that you're failing to look at the big picture of things. (The same way Kingdom Hearts fans try to justify how good it is while forgetting the fact that it's an odd concept in itself.)

the difference between Dr. Mario and Mario compared to say, Link and Young Link, or, Pikachu and Pichu is, that unlike the afrementioned pairs, Dr. Mario and Mario are from 2 completely different series.

BTW, proof for the Sakurai comment is vital. this is BS without proof.
Antoher thing: when Sakurai said he'd take out clones, that meant he'd change the movesets for them (at least some of them). whether this includes Dr. Mario is uncertain, but characters like FAlco and Ganondorf are not going anywhere.

Dr. Mario 4 life. you fail drastically.

Yes, this is seen as common knowledge to most of us here.
