Does anybody else not care about the starting lineup?

It seems everybody is worrying about the starting lineup for Brawl. Personally, I could care less who we are given to start with. I for one will be playing SSE as soon as I get the game, and as they have made apparent, a wide array of things will be unlocked by beating SSE. I don't think the starting lineup is so important, in fact I might not even get a chance to see it before unlocking hidden characters.

Thoughts?

I'm totally with you. People are freaking out about the starting roster, but I couldn't care less.

I only care about the ending roster.

That's not a bad way of looking at it, however, I do plan on jumping into a few VS. matches to get a feel for the game. Naturally, I'lll want to try the new characters first, but if I need to unlock them, that's fine. I don't care too highly about the starting roster, just as long as no hidden character (that I care about) is insanely difficult to unlcok.

Well, I care about it because I think it's possible that the starting roster could help us estimate the amount of secrets and the amount of total characters. I think that fewer starters will mean a small full roster. This is why I don't want to see an itty bitty character select screen. So, it's not so much who is in the starting line-up as it is the amount of characters in it.

I guess there is a chance that he could give us more secrets than starters, but this is based on nothing. In the other games, we've always gotten less secrets than the amount of starters.

Well people will care about the starting roster because a character not yet revealed could possibly be apart of it..., but im with you I will be playing the Subspace story mode asap.

I only care insofar as learning what the starting roster is would help us better estimate the overall roster. Ultimately you're right, its the final roster, not the starting one, that matters, since ultimately everyone is going to unlock all the characters anyway.

I would think that's completely the wrong way to look at it.

Remember, they've put a lot of effort into their single player. A huge problem about games that have a large multiplayer aspect to them is that the single player gets ignored. What I would do if I were Sakurai is make the starting roster really small so you have to play through single player and the SSE in order to unlock them. Even if you only play the SSE for like 30 minutes and unlock one character, now it's been established that you have to play through the SSE for more chars. If you want more variety, play the SSE. This way, not only do you want to play the SSE for the experience, but to also expand the game.

It would be the same reason why some games have a point system in their single player and upon achieving a certain score, things happen.

Well, that would be cool, and I've considered this after reading Panda's conspiracy theoracy, but personally I don't think he's going to give us a really small roster. If he was going to do it, I really don't think he would have revealed so many characters on the dojo, especially not this early. It kind of defeats the purpose of having them as "secret" characters.

Now, I must say that I'd prefer if what you're saying was true, but only if all of the characters from the dojo were starters. This would mean that all of those unlockables were in fact secrets, and that you wouldn't be rewarded with things that you already knew about.

R.M.B. were else?
same here. I'm pretty certain we'll get a 40+ roster either way, no matter how the starting roster is.
Ditto, Due to the facts at present, it appears a large portion of the characters are unlocked through SSE alone on the first play through. so I actualy expect there to be more secret characters that starters, remember, this is melee or SSB1, this is brawl.

Didn't Sakurai himself say that the Dojo isn't going to be biased based on what's "secret"? Besides, we already heard that Snake and Sonic are supposed to be secret, but we already know about them.

Either way, it doesn't really matter. Time will tell and all up 'til then is pointless.

Well, he did say that he wasn't going to be as uptight about hidden characters, however it was based on players seeing secrets while playing online. IMO, why would he mention this if he was already revealing so many secrets for the game? And yes, Sakurai did say that he will reveal all of the characters, BUT he also mentioned that he would do it just like Smash Fist (the melee site). I'm pretty sure the secret characters weren't revealed until after the game came out.

Well, as you know, Snake and Sonic are special characters (guests). They're a pretty big deal, so he would be stupid NOT to mention them.

I actually don't. I also think that it ROCKS most characters will be unlocked by the SE!!! That means most characters will actually play a part in the story! 8D

At first, I was die-hard about knowing the starting roster, but my opinion now has changed. One way or another, either the Japanese spoliers or unlocking everything, I'm going to know all the characters to begin with. Let's say there are 40 characters, well with Dojo updates alone I know 23 characters already and I know that probably 15 of them will be starters so its not such a big deal anymore. A full roster would be much more desired.

But why are you assuming that there will be 40 characters?

That's just the generic number being thrown around these days. If it were less, than I'd have even more information on characters. The fact of the matter is, chances are DOJO has announced so much information on the characters we do know, that a starting roster wouldn't be worth while to me. I seriously doubt that 24 characters or even 20 will be starting characters. 15 at most makes alot more sense to me. Let's say its 15 characters. We already know 23 characters. So unless Nintendo uses a punch of unannounced characters, I am going to know most, if not all of the starting roster from the DOJO updates alone. Yes there is a possibility that a few news ones not on DOJO could sneek in there, but how many could that be? 2? 3?

The only way I don't know alot about the starting roster is if there are over 40 characters

I care about the starting roster. saying as we wont be getting any Character updates untill then, for afew reasons.

1. May confirm Last (or number of) Third Party character(s)
2.May confirm Ness and Falcon. and afew other vets like Jiggly and and Luigi.
3.New characters? new franchises? we all want to see that. You guys will be pumped when you see the starting roster. unless its all characters we've already seen. That'd Just suck

Although it might be interesting to find out I think the end roster is what matters.
