YEa but alot of games have things that you can only do during certain stances.
Did you click the link that talks about stepping?

Yeah, you can only do things in stances. That's why their stances. But talking movement only,

3-d fighters blow melee out of the water with stepping not because they're 3-d, but because you're allowed to do all sorts of moving at will without limiting your options.

The ONLY movement you can do in melee that allows you to doesnt limit you is walking.
Ha ha, Dogy.
I'm going to spare you some trouble and just tell you up front.

I'm rarely ever serious over the internet,
I know you were kidding.

It was still something to point out, cause it's true. I didnt mean that as a potshot or anything.

Oh im not here to change opinions. As much as I dont like in melee now (read: now that I know better), you really can find something to hate in EVERY game.

GG is pretty awesome, my brother has it and I play with him every once in a while

Never thought about getting competitive with it though.. how balanced/hard/rewarding is the game in general?

Balanced? It's realistically the most balanced game there is in the competitive scene. It's not perfectly balanced by any stretch of the imagination, but it's in the ballpark.

Hard? That's a relative statement. It's hard in the sense that it does take some sitting down to work out some frame-specific inputs (read: your FRCs), and then learning BnBs and whatnot. Beyond that, it really depends on the character you play.

Rewarding? I'd say yes, especially when you start doing kool ****. Every character in the game, imo, has something that takes some effort to learn; but when you finally start pulling it off you're like " :) " Some characters you do have to work harder for than others (I really dont think the concept of a "Good American I-No exists), but it's kool because a good anything in that game is scary as ****.

THAT'S MY N**GA OTG. **** HUNTER 5!

That game is off the chain. especially if you have somebody to play with. Makes for some hilarious *** moments in all co-op play.

Man I'm so bored. Nothing to do around the house, now that I have no school.

Well... What to say about doc... Maybe I should watch some more vids or something.

Resident Evil 5 is pimp as hell. My boy has had it for a minute but I only started playing with him yesterday. We started from the beginning doing co-op on Normal and it's really fun. Honestly, it's really easy for me because I'm experienced in FPS's so maybe we should've done hard mode instead. I've also never played any of the other Resident Evil's so I don't know story etc etc, but yeah it's pimp.

Right now we just beat the Irving or w'e the **** his name is after he turns himself into a squid or something. .... yeah in retrospect this game is mad easy

Yeah, that's why I love playin mercenary mode.

Then again, RE original wasnt an action game to begin with. Im still tryin to figure out why they basically dumped ALL puzzles in RE5.

Kinda odd.

Fj Pill *hits opponent* Wavelands towards and past him to turnaround Fsmash.

I broke down on stage when I snapped it off.

So somebody linked me to a brawl livestream, this apex nonsense. Hearing n**gas try to act hard on the mic with that game in the background has to be the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

i did the coolest edgeguard ever recently...i was hanging on the edge on FD and my opponent (fox) used his upb to try and go over me. So as i'm hanging from the ledge, i just yodel upwards and my last hit hits him and he dies. it was prett hillarious.

yodelgaurds are the way of the future!

The doc forums are losing mad steam.

And tornado edgeguards. Lol. I've seriously put some thought into it after watching DJN vs vanz (or whoever that was, i dont remember). It's like... a good idea actually, as long as double jumps arent involved.

___
edit:

Forgot to mention.

From now on:
Pink Doc = Michael Jordan, Visitor Jersey.
White Doc = MJ, Home Jersey (i might have those backwards)

Final D = Full Court.

Joke came up yesterday when alpha and jared came over to play.

I personally have just been busy as ****. Lots of finals, haven't really been playing much. Last week I had a bunch of cool thoughts to contribute forgot to post em... and now I'm just lazy after moving back home and unpacking and what not. But hopefully I'll be getting my smash on soon.

I pulled off a number of "DBR combos"* on my brother's Falcon today.
Feels good, man.

*By that I mean Launcher > Up Air(n) > F Smash
Where n is a positive integer.

LOL

that's clever

yeah we are losing steam. Its just there's only so much to talk about when it comes to doc. I think we should talk about some really bizarre matchup vs doc that doesn't occur frequently maybe?

My next tourney's not for two more weeks...

I think we should collectively brainstorm the most awesome Doc flowchart for the thread in the MGD.

Ok, so time for some real ****. Reverse upB kinda works like Marth's reverse dolphin slash, but only if the first hit connects. It doesn't have as much knockback, but the trajectory is the same, and it can be used when edgeguarding and what not. The same works with the first hit of upB in general, but it's easier to connect with Reverse upB. I got a pretty sweet gimp today with a bair-> bair-> first hit of upB at 0%.

Nice anti-sheild pressure too.

Why not work on correcting things, like the cg list? Just sayin', it isn't accurate by any means.

Vulcan, was Yuna referring to himself in the quote you sigged? I can't think of anyone it would fit better, honestly.

GG is pretty awesome, my brother has it and I play with him every once in a while

I dunno about your area, but in mine, it died about the time SFIV came out. Blazblue is prolly gonna replace it. If I were you, I'd just get SF to learn the basics of 2d fighters, and move to BB when it comes out.

blazblue/kofXII is going to be pro.
sfiv is okay but pretty noob & unbalanced in comparison to arc system's games and the KOF series.

I thought about this the day the Ken Flowchart came out (and shortly after seeing the Ciel Flowchart, that **** is pretty epic). I was going ot make a serious one, but I was like "Well........ im still not a believer of cookie cutting doc so...."

Magus has had that done for a while.
I would know, I got uber roasted by the purple stuff

learning SF to learn the basics of 2D fighters never works as well as people think. Learning SF to learn Capcom and SNK 2-D fighters is fine, but even then it doesnt cover alot of things.
blazblue/kofXII is going to be pro.
sfiv is okay but pretty noob & unbalanced in comparison to arc system's games and the KOF series.

A lot of people who actually are playing blazblue dont like it for various reasons. I've actually talked to a few GG pros who've played it, who say the game is nothing like GG (that's not news, but I dont know why people keep trying to compare the 2 beyond the company). They say BB tries to be GGAC and it dont work. (I actually had a long talk about this with GAPeach last night, come to think about it. He went more into detail about it).

Speaking of him, he told me about his talk with Justin Wong about BB (granted JWong is the person to ask about non-capcom fighters, he's a good source) he, GAPeach, did point out something I never thought about; how dumb the burst system is in BB. In BB, when you burst, you take double damage for the rest of the round.

.... Heck, I only entered GGAC twice, but I've played enough to know how, what, and when you can do to bait a burst. I can only imagine what it'd be like when you get to bait it just to lead to 2x damage for the rest of the round. And in my mind, it's not like "Well I'm just not going to burst" will work, cause I've seen some naaaaaaaasty *** combos already.

__

KoFXII: I havent looked too much into the game.

GAPeach is a KoF nut, so he was tellin me some stuff about it, like how Mai is NOT in it. :(
Nippon Ichi!!

Completely disappointed.

Beyond that, he was tellin me about critical counters. Uuuuuuuuuum. If there has to be criteria for that, then on yeah im all on board. If it's FREE.... ooof.

doctor mario vs. roy
Doc vs Roy.....

First, understand that if Roy is playing this matchup right, it's going to basically feel like playing Marth. Contrary to popular belief, Roy wants to keep you (and a lot of people) on the outside of the blade until he's looking for the kill. That being because the outside is his combo range.

Another thing to know is, although it's like fighting Marth, he's overall not as fast. Im not talking attack speed, afaik those are the same. Im talking movement speed. Although Roy is still faster than Doc, it's not leaps and bounds like Marth. That's important because that means moving wont save Roy as much as it would Marth.

So actually stuff.

ROY IS THE CHARACTER WITH THE WORST RECOVERY IN THE GAME. HE'S THE ONLY ONE WITH A RECOVERY WORSE THAN DOCS. IT'S LEAPS AND BOUNDS BELOW DOC. I stress this because, unlike alot of characters who just cant defend themselves as they recover, roy to some degree just flat out cant recover. It's fairly easy to gimp him from the middle of dreamland.

Roy gets chaingrabbed, so if and when you land it, milk it. End it with a f.smash, u.air->d.smash, b.throw, whatever gets him off the stage.

If you're not next time him, you want to be away from him throwing pills or looking to get in. You dont really want to try to play a midrange game with him because he's going to come in looking for a d.tilt. You can CC d.tilt for a bit (I have 70% on my CC page, Im pretty sure that's not the range where you can FULLY cc). You dont want to let a d.tilt hit though, because that's where Roy combos start.

When you do come in on him, you have to make sure not to land straight in front of him. Obviously if you're in front of his shield he's looking to shieldgrab, but if he's DDing and you wiff, he's liable to throw a side-b or pivot f.smash.

Roy's side-b leads to some things. Mostly damage, but if he wants he can get a KD out of it (3rd hit up). At the least, he gets mixup. If he does it from tip range, he's basically safe (disadvantage if you're paying attention, but safe nonetheless).

Last big point about Roy, for the love of god dont telegraph something while he's neutral. If you're going to dunk him, you better be early (10 minutes early so you show up on time). If you're going to f.smash you better make sure he's asleep at the wheel. Or else you're liable to eat the real man's counter. (Random sidenote: Roy's counter is start later and ends earlier than Marth's. Why? Because the game needs more dumb stuff.)

All in all, while comboing Roy does lead for easier ways to get him off the stage, you really should be looking to catch him near an edge and get him off the stage. If you can force him to back up with pills (which really you shouldnt be able tod), that's good. If you can just make him back away from whatever you're doing and keep him in a corner, that's good. Just, whatever it takes. Get him off the stage and grab the ledge. He's probably not coming back.

I think i'm going to revamp and revise my entire argument for why Doc isn't good.

It will focus mainly around how they actually have to play strategically and smart to beat characters as bad as Roy.
