I really wish people could separate their feelings of SwSh from the Pokémon that debuted in it.
It's fine if you don't like the games, but I see too many comments implying that Gen 8 Pokémon suck simply because they're Gen 8 Pokémon.
"Could it be that people don't like the same handful of mons constantly suggested for gen 8 or that a lot of people would rather have something else other than the 11th character from any franchise as seen with how this exact same thing happened with gen 7 and FE?"
...
"No, they hate gen 8 and are too biased"
As for stage rankings...
KoF stadium has the coolest ****ing gimmick, it's so satisfying to be able to have wall bounce combos, someone dying will have the fireworks in the back which work very well with the night sky, the cameos are ****ing amazing and finally, those ****ing songs. Honestly, the worst thing about this stage is that it didn't happen sooner.
I was very fond of Midgar from an aesthetic standpoint in Smash 4 so you'd think the Northern Crater would be underwhelming but no, it's one of the most gorgeous stages in the game that really sells how weird the area is in game, but the transition uses the game's story unlike damn near every other traveling stage, I remember being in awe at Holy and the Lifestream stopping Meteor when Sakurai showed that off on my birthday. The music's also great which is just icing on the cake.
Mementos is stunning, the layout is pretty neat but the visual effects show that there's absolutely nothing else like this in the game, I'm not interested in P5 due to hearing very iffy stuff about it's writing, but they captured the stylish look so well! The 3 colours all look very nice, and the added detail about Joker's victory screen is just really nice. The train's also very nice because there haven't really been any other stages involving a train, have there? And of course, the music. Great all around and though I don't really pick it much, it's always refreshing to see on the screen.
Minecraft's aesthetic has always been rather cute to me, so getting a nice stage in that look is a real treat. There's nothing super interesting gameplay wise but the blocky look gets complimented by a nice day and night cycle with the monsters popping out and how they burn at the sunlight. This might have been a tad higher though if you'd be able to enter the houses like the trailer implied, but other than that, it's really nice. I'd say something about the music, but Hallard or whatever it's called is so ****ing great that I forget Minecraft came with more than 1 song, fantastic job overall.
Garreg Mach's pretty damn neat for 2 reasons. 1: It's an FE stage to be an actual location, Ferox was this too but I actually care about the location here as Ferox was just a side area you visit like what, twice in Awakening? Second, the stage uses surprisingly rare themes as I believe this is the first stage to be set in a school and the first stage to be set in a marketplace. I'm especially happy with the latter as breaking the food stands really makes me feel like I'm in a big ass fight, especially as I've always felt Smash needed a bar stage for a barfight. 3H also has what's easily my favourite FE OST so all around, it's pretty pleasing. The models are rather rough but it's still cool to see them in the game.
: These stages are just so boring. Yggdrasil's Altar is the same old grassy area in broad daylight we've seen a million times and while the Spring Stadium has a less overused aesthetic, one that I actually really like too, it's such a downgrade from the other stadium we got, no fun effects in the back beyond cameos which are static JPGs and no fun gimmick but rather bounce pads which really don't feel fun to use at all. The music for both is also dull, DQ music's really too generic for my tastes and Arms uses a Leitmotif for all it's tracks. This means all the songs sound at least somewhat similar, meaning at that point it doesn't really matter which song is picked
These are both here for the same reasons. 1: They're dull. The Cloud Sea isn't interesting to look at, and neither is the millionth grassy area in broad daylight. 2: The appeal of cameos is "Hey look how cool it is to see your favourite characters!" This naturally fails when you don't like them to begin with, especially when including the character who's a sex offender because lol **** is funny I guess 3: They're not fun at all, Cloud Sea's small and it's gimmick is shrinking because **** you, how dare you try to enjoy yourself. Spiral Mountain is also pretty damn disorienting due to the constant spinning, very unfun. 4: I'm forced to play these stages because some of the people I play with just absolutely love them and call any criticisms nitpicking, which is frustrating because both of them have asked me to stop picking Dracula's Castle and Umbra Clock Tower for similar issues they have with their favourites, so yeah. And finally, the music. I do not care for any of the tracks at all and Sakurai seemed to think "Hmmm how do I make Gwen dislike these stages even more". After all, did we get any X songs? Of course not! Did we get the one Banjo song I actually like? Of course not!
