:ultminmin: Not an ARMS fan, but I wanted either her, Twintelle or Dr. Coyle the most, so I felt some satisfaction for her inclusion.

:ultsteve:: Ehh, never played Minecraft, but I respect the fact that Minecraft is the biggest selling game ever and Steve has definitely earned his place.

:ultsephiroth:: Amazing inclusion, I was soooo hyped! FFVII is one of my favorite games ever, and Sephiroth one of my favorite villains ever and it was great to have him and some more FFVII content as I don't have to tell you how very lacking it was!

:ultpyra:: Another very pleasant surprise! I actually thought a few times before how awesome it would be if we just get a standalone Pyra who can switch into Mythra, but that would had gone against the Driver/Blade theme of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 so it was either Rex(With Pyra) or no one from XC2. I love the Aegis girls especially Mythra so I look forward to buying them.

Anywho, here's a fun discussion topic. Make a trailer for your most wanted.
In the case of Leon Kennedy, I’ve had one in mind for a while and was all I could think of:

It’s nighttime, and Link is seen escorting Zelda. As they’re moving along, strange noises are heard, but the two initially dismiss it as nothing, only to be interrupted by a large number of Ganados. They put up a great fight at first, but there proves to be too many, and in the chaos, Zelda gets separated from Link. A Ganado makes his way behind her, and gets ready to deal the fatal blow.....only to be hit from behind, howl in pain, fall to the ground and die. A silence falls over the scene, as we see someone pulling a knife from the now deceased Ganado and loading a handgun. While doing so, one of the Ganados does the point and scream bit, with it and the remaining ones charge at the mysterious figure. Said figure looks up, smirks, and says, “Oh please, you’re small time.”

The character is fully revealed, and we see the following tag line:

LEON TAKES UP RESIDENCE

Anywho, here's a fun discussion topic. Make a trailer for your most wanted.
I'll do one for both of my top 2.
We begin with a shot of a floating island, seemingly the Isle of the Ancients from Brawl.
We cut in to see the entrance to a high-tech facility going down beneath the island, with Samus's gunship visible on the side.
We cut in further to a corridor of that facility, dark and empty--save for Zero Suit Samus and Richter, who walk past.
We see a door open from the interior of a room; Samus and Richter are standing on the other side. They walk in.
After looking around the room for a bit, Samus and Richter stop in surprise as they see something--Mega Man and R.O.B., hooked up to machinery on the wall.
Samus sees a terminal a short distance from the robots, pointing it out to Richter. He shrugs, and she signals him towards the robots.
Samus goes up to the terminal and starts typing at it. On the monitor, we see a diagram of Mega Man outlined in green appear. We then see a diagram of R.O.B. appear, also in green--until it suddenly turns red as a loud crashing sound rings out.
Samus turns to see Richter has torn R.O.B. off the wall. R.O.B. doesn't seem to be damaged, but is still offline. Richter gives a thumbs-up, and Samus turns back to the monitor.
Samus then gives a small jolt of surprise as something else appears on screen--a diagram of an unknown figure (looking like a human in a cap) outlined in red. Samus signals Richter, and he walks up, still holding R.O.B.
In a dark corner of the room, a figure points a large white weapon at the two. Three missiles fire from it; Samus and Richter hear them fire and turn to see.
Cut to a more well-lit cavern, filled with houses and a few bunny-people--until the cave wall close to the ceiling explodes, with Samus, Richter, and R.O.B. being flung out. The bunny-people turn and run.
Through the hole in the wall, we see the attacker standing at the ledge. They drop their large weapon and grab a blue gun from their hip. They jump down towards Samus and Richter, who struggle to get themselves battle-ready. (R.O.B. is still turned off.)
The figure lands and points his gun at the two.
Quote Takes the Shot!
<insert random gameplay, showing off Quote's wide variety of projectile moves; the Cave Story theme plays>
We see some gameplay of Quote fighting Zero Suit Samus and Richter on his stage, Mimiga Village, which then leads back into a cinematic.
Quote is struggling against the two, and Richter leaps at him--but then gets hit by a volley of white projectiles from off-screen, knocking him away. Quote and Samus turn to see the new figure, holding a red gun.
Curly Guns Down!
<insert more random gameplay, particularly establishing that Curly is an alternate model for Quote, until the end; Running Hell plays>
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate x Cave Story
This trailer is rendered in a 2D anime/manga/comic book artstyle, most notably with characters being represented by multiple still images of various poses.
Joker wakes up, finding himself lying on the ground in Shibuya's Scramble Crossing and clad in his school uniform.
People are walking around him, but nobody can see him.
After a few moments, Joker sees a strange sight--red-and-black symbols, resembling a cross between a skull and the Smash Ball, floating in midair.
The symbols warp, transforming into bizarre, off-color, jagged versions of Smash fighters. Joker is taken aback; no one else seems to notice.
The fake fighters start to attack, and Joker is only narrowly able to dodge.
In desperation, Joker reaches to his glasses to try and unmask, but someone calls out. Joker turns to see someone running towards him, a figure in purple.
The figure leaps over Joker's head and summons fire in front of his hand, lashing it out at the fake fighters, causing them to explode into TV static and disappear.
The figure turns to Joker.
Neku Makes Some Noise!
<insert random gameplay, showing off Neku's flashy elemental and psychokinetic attacks, as well as his stage, which goes from the Scramble Crossing to a mural in Udagawa to an ominous underground bar with static effects; Twister plays>
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate x The World Ends With You

Now that we only have 2 unknown slots for FP2, what's everyone's thoughts on it? Is it worth it? Is it not?
I haven't bought it, but I feel like it will turn out better than the first pass. Everyone made me do a 180 on my initial opinions.
:ultminmin I had no interest in ARMS nor Xenoblade fighters back in 2018, but after the FP1 reveals, I realized how much Nintendo needed to spread the love to IPs other than FE and Pokemon when it counts. Her extra mechanics and revamped control scheme are also crazy, I play her often and I'm happy I at least bought her.
:ultsteve: I couldn't imagine him being anything other than a copy of Villager, but the way they implemented all the Minecraft mechanics took me by surprise and I'm happier he turned out this way. I might at least try him out if the last 2 aren't disappointing.
:ultsephiroth: admittedly was the most skeptical I'd been towards a DLC fighter. The songs and spirits should've been base game FF7 content, the boss rush should have been a separate mode entirely, and other Final Fantasy titles than 7 exist. However, he's another rival character to someone on the roster and FF7 needed the content regardless, so I think he's a good choice.
I don't play Xenoblade, but I may end up liking Pyra/Mythra the most just based on how fast they can switch out.

The intern seems to be acting real coy with the Pokemon fanbase. Given all of the rumors I don't know what to expect this Saturday, I just know for sure that a Smash presentation is probably not this week.
New discussion time! Where do you fall on this line?

Personally, I'm a Chill Wanter. While I have my preferences and there are a few characters I DON'T want, most of the time I'm okay with whoever.
Everyone will claim to lean on the Acceptor but we all know we're orange lads.

:ultminmin: I loved ARMS so I was always down to get a character from it. Before Ultimate came out, I was saying that I would much rather have Min Min over Spring Man, so I was very happy to see that happen. Spring Man is more of a Liu Kang and less of a Ryu. It was very obvious that Min Min and Twintelle were the real icons of the game. Min Min's design is great, and her three ARMS work perfectly for Smash.
:ultsteve:: Being one of my top 10 most wanted, I was very happy to see Steve. I almost felt spoiled with just how much love Sakurai put into his moveset. It was more than I could have hoped for. I mostly play him in casual matches with friends and it's a blast every time.
:ultsephiroth:: At this point I obviously had my preferences, but I would've been happy with whoever they added. Sephiroth is the epitome of a character I had no idea I wanted until they were added. I was more than satisfied with Cloud's inclusion, but to see Sakurai go full FFVII weeb and add Sephiroth along with all this new FFVII content...hooo boy! Sephiroth is already my most played character online, and I'm still not tired of him. He is so unbelievably fun and might be my favorite Ultimate newcomer so far, and I never would have expected that.
:ultpyra:: I was definitely rooting for Elma, but I'm still happy to see another Xenoblade character. I wasn't a big fan of XC2, but I do like Pyra/Mythra as characters and it looks like they are gonna be a ton of fun to play. It's also nice to be surprised as they weren't leaked whatsoever and very few people predicted it. Overall, not for me, but I'm still happy to see them.

In terms of DLC, I am more than happy with what we’ve gotten so far. Plant was an amazing surprise and is such a fun character. FP1 introduced me to Joker, which led to me playing Persona 3, 4, and 5 which are all among my favorite games now. Hero, Banjo, and Terry were all fantastic characters, even though I'm not personally attached to any of them.

Of course I have my preferences, but I'm just happy to see Ultimate get more support. I would gladly pay for a third Fighters Pass, even if it meant getting six characters from games I dislike/never played. I had never played P5 before Joker, and now Persona is like my favorite RPG series. I actively dislike XC2, but I'm still excited to play as Pyra/Mythra. I never once thought that we should get a second FFVII character, but Sephiroth is like my favorite thing in the world now. I ****ing love Smash, so I'm more than willing to pay for whatever they might add.

They're actually just counting down, like what happened with Gen VIII (except that was counting up).

5 was Unova, 6 was Kalos and so on. It doesn't mean Sinnoh specifically.

Ultimate wasn't worth it, honestly. : P But since I bought the game digitally, I can't really resell it like I usually like to do after I feel like I've sufficiently played a game. So since it's stuck on my system, I feel good about getting FP2.

I'm aware of that, but using "let's go" amidst all the rumors does sound like the social media manager having fun.

Min Min: A good start. Gave us the hope for revisiting rejected characters, and hope for more first party characters. Don't care for her overall, but am fine with her.
Steve: Don't care for Minecraft at all. But as the biggest game in history ever, guess it was unavoidable.
Sephiroth: Was surprisingly cool with his addition. And that came from someone who loathed Cloud being included in Smash 4 through DLC (my hope was for K.Rool) and turning Smash into a 3rd party fest. Began to play FF7 on Switch, still playing it now. Cool character overall.
Pyra + Mythra: Very light-hearted reveal. Loved it. Was very sure it was gonna be Rex at first. This is way better. I'm still awaiting my copy of XC2 in the mailbox.

I'm kind of a picky wanter. I won't whine about inclusions anymore (unless they will add a gen 8 Pokemon) but I won't be spending money on the characters that lack any appeal for me.

Their definition of "fun" is certainly interesting... then again, as we've established in the last page, they're probably locked in a room and have little to no free will, so they have to distract themselves somehow. :4pacman:

Okay, so my lens is primarily gameplay-related:

:ultminmin : Doesn't fit my personal fighting style, although a fighter in this vein is perfectly fine in concept. I take some issue with the execution: particularily with how she seems weirdly competent at both long-range and CQC but severely lacking in defensive options outside of her reflector up smash and N-Air. I wouldn't mind slowing down her Up-tilt / Up-Smash a bit or reducing the ARMS attacks' shield damage some in exchange for giving her the recovery air dodge thing ARMS characters do. While we'll have to see if she's overpowering (her Japanese results lean slightly towards "Yes" although it might be due to the more patient meta suiting her playstyle like a glove and some very strong players using her) I do think that she forces a very uncomfortable neutral a bit too easily. It's kinda like :ultsonic: in that sense; although Min Min might just need some finetuning and she's in a much better spot.

:ultsteve: :My favorite from an execution standpoint, but holy **** does he have a learning cliff. That said, the amount of **** he can pull off is amazing and that's why I love the ******. Including silly stuff like the Anvil Grab (which I don't think has been patched out yet). There are a couple issues I have with how the block plays - namely how weirdly Minecart interacts with stuff because seriously that thing is its own moveset sometimes. Still though, a very effective character and pleased with how he turned out.

:ultsephiroth: : Plays very much like his Dissidia self (+ some absurdly powerful magic because Sakurai wanted to add some boss sauce to him) and hey, I think he came out pretty well. Rewards precision like Vergil, and while his Devil Trigger KH mode Winged Form is a massive overall buff for him it also puts the onus on the Sephiroth player to not die early. Really well designed character that evokes what Sakurai was going for while not being too overpowering - my only issue is that the Masamune attacks are so reliant on sweetspots it has issues KOing.

:ultpyra: : Have to see really. Looks kinda promising, whether the two wind up compatible or one of them sees most of the screentime*. I do think both characters will see regular use because of their specials having different utility alone, and they're probably going to have some sort of sauce to them. Which is always a bonus in my book.

Also Myhtra best gal because her counter might wind up being a S-tier disrespect move calling it right here. :4pacman:

*(Maybe Mythra for more competitive players because her quicker attacks probably allow for more combo strings, maybe Pyra for more casual players because in casual matches power = increased win chance :p )

What are you guys thinking about the last two DLC characters? Do you care who they are at this point? Should they be super good picks to end the DLC season?
I do think that they should add at least one more western third-party to close things out. Getting two JRPG swordfighters back to back definitely doesn’t sit right with a lot of people. The same way Banjo followed up Joker and Hero, they should have another Banjo-esque character as a sort of palette cleanser. Crash seems to be the obvious pick, but Rayman, Master Chief, Scorpion, TF2 Heavy, or something along those lines would also work.

The Crash and Monster Hunter leak seems like a pretty strong and fitting end. Both very popular characters/series that especially appeal to different regions. Neither of them are my favorite choices, but I gotta admit that they would be pretty good characters to round out this Fighters Pass.

Fighter Pass 2 has been an extreme monkey paw for me because it's been going through everything I have wished for in the first fighter pass

The problem is that they picked the characters that I have little to no attached to

Like, my only wish was for more Nintendo characters, so that the 3rd party folks would stop overhyping themselves and letting people, who liked Smash for it's Nintendo-ness a chance, I didn't care got in, just, please, something to silence those "it's gotta be ______!" people

And, I got it with
:ultminmin:ultpyra:

But, I don't personally care for ARMS and Xenoblade :T

My other wish was for non-main characters, villains or really any side characters, to better rep franchises that needed it, like Zelda or Sonic

And I got it with
:ultsephiroth:

But I don't care for Final Fantasy :T

And I have no attachment for :ultsteve:, but I do see him as another big video game all-star (unlike say :ultjoker:)

So I'll allow him

So, again, I technically got all my wishes, and I'm glad it's making folks with my open / everyone can be in Smash viewpoint happy for some much-needed hope

Buuuut, I can't help to feel a tiny bit little disappointed that it's all either "new" humanization-looking characters, and the one classic character was another anime swordsman. And the only NON-humanization character in general was :ultsteve:

And I'm gotta honest, I haven't like how any of the characters play so far either

So I'm mixed on the past :S

I know the “what makes you think...” post was, but what about the “would you be ok with the rest of this pass being 1st party characters” one? When was that made?

also don’t expect the presentation this week:
There was a problem fetching the tweet
I checked that tweet in the discord channel I found it in and it’s been deleted

so I guess a Smash presentation could still happen this week

I know an ACNH presentation was announced at 5 PM EST, but anyone remember what day of the week it was?

In Min-Min's defense, I think they did a good job of not making her too polarizing considering the gimmick they gave her. During her presentation video I thought she'd just fold completely to any characters with good high aerial approach options (which is most the top tiers) so I'm glad she didn't end up as Little Mac v2. Is she arguably a little too strong for how toxic her playstyle is? Probably, yeah, and Sonic was a good comparison, but I prefer it to the alternative of her just being some low tier stomper.

As with every fighter announcement, I am happy for the fans of Xenoblade 2 who got a character that they wanted, but for me it's just another disappointment in a long line of disappointments. Don't get me wrong, Pyra/Mythra look fun, but after getting 10 DLC characters in total so far that have made so many other people happy, I feel like it's entirely reasonable for me to want to feel that same sense of euphoria that they did. I just want to be able to say that I was hype and crying tears of joy over at least ONE of the characters that appeared in Smash Ultimate DLC that were from a list of characters I want to be in the game. I feel like it isn't unreasonable to want to be able to be hype about a character announcement.
Me except it’s
“Let Persona fans be happy!”
“Let Dragon Quest fans be happy!”
“Let SNK/Fatal Fury/King of Fighters fans be happy!”

Now, I’ve found enjoyment with each DLC character in some way. But most of the characters so far, on initial reveal, I really didn’t care about with the exceptions of Banjo, Min Min, and Steve. Even then, none of those 3 were characters I actively supported/wanted to be in the game. They were just characters that, on initial reveal, I could actually say “Woah, I have some familiarity with that character and it’s cool to see them in Smash.”

Some will. Others, not really. Some of us are pretty open to characters. Heck, some of us enjoy "Surprise Me" characters. And last, some of us know not to lose our cool over a video game compared to some other people.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but 4 days to go means the Pokemon news comes out on Saturday, doesn't it?
A leak out there by a prominent pokemon leaker hinted that we'd actually get news before Pokemon Day (which I think is the 27th?) It's also heavily implied that said leak/announcement is the Remakes for Diamond & Pearl.
Insert 'Cynthia for Smash' rumors/speculation here because everyone is always under the impression Nintendo has to have a shill rep

As cliche as it’ll sound, I hope that we’re done with JRPG characters. Whether they be 3rd party reps or ones from Nintendo, in terms of the remaining spots, I’m hoping that we get ones that are similar to Steve, in that they not only each bring in a new series, but also new genres.
