I think both could work out honestly. Have it work exactly like in DKC2, DKC3 and the Land games by holding the Jump button, and having a Up B very similar to Tropical Freeze's Helicopter Spin.

I've always imagined it as being like Peach's floating, because I can imagine how that would work and feel in-game - it just seems to translate seamlessly.

I'm not familiar with anything that Tropical Freeze did, though, as the game never interested me, but more options for how something could be implemented are always good.

I'd want her to have a unique midair jump that's her Twirl from Tropical Freeze. She would DEFINITELY need less powerful aerials than Diddy does to make this somewhat balanced. But yeah, good explanation! Can envision her doing exactly this in Smash real well.

I feel like if DK got another rep it'd be K. Rool, but Dixie is up there with my most requested newcomers. I think she has a lot to offer the series, so she's got my support.

We should refrain from a mentality that the choice is either between Dixie or King K.Rool. To be honest, Dixie Kong was always seen as the "guranteed DKC newcomer" which unfortunately wasn't true. So we need a base for genuine Dixie Kong support. She is one of the first original DKC's protagonists, and the side kick of Diddy in the most critically acclaimed DKC game. She's also in Tropical Freeze, she's a great newcomer on her own. If K.Rool makes it in or not. Her absense in Smash 4 has made me all the more supportive of her, cause even after she was part of the "Forbidden Seven", she still didn't make it.

So we've got some DK content coming to the Switch! Not only a Tropical Freeze port but DLC for Mario + Rabbids! This is GREAT news overall; with the level of exposure DK's getting I wonder if Nintendo's trying to prime us for a brand new DK game. I mean just think about it: the DK nods and level in Odyssey was a big start on its own, but now we have these 2 gems in what seems like Nintendo finally giving this series a healthy spotlight. It seems logical, that when a new game hits, Nintendo will have already laid the groundwork for warming up a wide audience to the Kongs; that will give it a huge boost of potential sales.

As for the DKCTF port, I'm excited for it but I doubt I'll buy it. I still play it on the Wii U from time to time; I replayed it this weekend and I still see why I love it, but this new port can be the perfect chance to improve it. For a start, they could let us choose which kong to play as from the start, and obviously bump up the graphics a bit. I mean it looked great on the Wii U but that was 4 years ago so I'm sure they can make things look more gorgeous.

As for Funky, I NEVER would've thought he'd be playable but damn does he look cool. I see the dynamic they have with the Kongs: Dixie is Easy Mode, Diddy is Normal, Cranky is Hard, DK is Expert (no powerups, pure skill) and now Funky is Beginner Mode. I do wanna try him out though, but what I realized is that the Kong that runs the shop in the previous game gets promoted in the next. Cranky from Returns, and now Funky...but who's running the shop now that he's adventuring?

We've got one more possible Kong to consider now and I'm confident Funky will be popular, but I'm not convinced he's a threat to Dixie. She still has a lot going for her; 2nd Nintendo heroine w/her own game, etc.

I don't believe that we have very much sway at all, and it's fair to say that Sakurai won't always be involved, but I agree, it doesn't prevent disappointment.

To add to that, she imo is one of the last few remaining classic Nintendo characters that is deserving of a roster spot along with King K. Rool and Ridley; having been playable in numerous titles in not only Donkey Kong Country games, but also in Mario spin offs, has made more playable appearances in the SNES DKC trilogy than Donkey Kong himself, and even has had her own game (multiple times) so...

To me, it's a no brainer.

I'm probably gonna play it eventually. I generally play sequels of games I've enjoyed.

Dixie is long overdue! I really hope this is finally her time to get in the game. I won't lie, I'd be fine with any new DK character. Funky, Cranky, K. Rool, Heck, I'd take DK Jr. However, I feel Dixie deserves to get in above everyone else.
