the vid shows the dash fakeout using falcon, but sonic can do it too.
the vid is found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOLL_xJ_DjA

How to perform this:

1 jump (SH/full jump, or even + second jump, doesn't matter how you get in the air.)
2 DI in to the directon you don't want to dash
3 as you land, your character will slide a little, wich is normal.
4 if you buffer a dash before phase 3, so it comes out during phase 3, the dash's range will be alot less.

Sonic almost dashes in place using this ^_^

This is similar
This cause the character to move less distance with their dash.

The marth video shows how to slow down the dash or not to move with the dash.
This is something else.
This uses the 'landing slide of jumps'.
It is something else, and both require other ways of doing said shorter dash.

But what you posted is useful, but just different useful than this. As this to use as a fakeout, what you posted looks like it can better be used for insta turnarounds.

How exactly is this useful?

I'm not criticizing you or anything, but I'm having a hard time trying to think of a good use for this.

I do this all the time by accident... its really annoying when you want to hyphen smash and you just end up standing in place >_<

lol you two

djbrowny's got a point tho..... I've been experimenting with upsmash lately.... a lot of the time I want to hyphen it and I'm just in place..... I wonder if this "AT" is the reason?? idk I'll have to review my matches I guess :urg: but yeah it is annoying.

Also, I should stop using Usmash. Like, ever. :(

BTW, this isn't a real dash, it's a foxtrot. You can't screech stop out of it.
So it's not really a dash, just a shorter foxtrot.
