Plz dont crucifiy me if this is old, I did search >_<

Anyway i noticed that as you dash towards a banana, if you let go of the control stick just before you pass over it, you can pick up an item on the ground by pressing A (or Z) without having to go through with the dash attack. Now this is pretty obvious, but every character has some sort of lag period associated with recovering after picking up the item. it has to be at least 8 frames.

However Sonic doesnt seem to have this at all. Out of a full dash, once the item has been picked up, Sonic enters a grind animation. From here, you can do anything, but whats most noticeable is the ability to glidetoss instantly. It actually looks really cool and I dont think ive seen it done before :) This works with grenades and gyros, and all items

New or what? I hope so :D

----------

OK so a little more testing on my part has found that different characters have different points in thier stopping animation from a dash which allow them to act considerably quicker after picking up an item. Sonic isnt unique, but his speed makes it very obvious

As you can see in the first 3 clips, there is a normal item pick-up, and then the same thing, but with what appears to be IASA frames, just by me letting go of the control stick just a fraction earlier. Then a whole lot of demo clips at full speed. Then i show ROB, It seems he can do this for a very large time frame and be able to throw the gyro very quickly, I can do it almost 100% of the time. Marth is similar. However when it comes to diddy, I can not find a single point in his stop animation which allows his to act any quicker after picking up the item. Of all the characters to not benefit from this, it had to be the only one who can spawn bananas :p

First off, I will be honest and say I have no idea what the difference is between Side-B and Down-B Foxtrots and Grinds, so if I say something otherwise, please correct me and this post don exits.

Doesn't Sonic still suffer the lag in which he cannot do anything except a delayed Dash Attack from the grind or continue to go on with the foxtrot from the grind?

Grind

Do a fox trot, pull the control stick backwards and quickly tilt it forward slightly. Sonic's fox trot should be extended.

I think he means screech stop. because if he does, it makes complete sense. You can pick the nanner up as soon as you start screech stop, but you can do nanner stuff INSTANTLY, like glide toss. Seems quite awesome, but only useful for one character. But still, we need 1 second to cross FD and pick up that nanner without having to do a dash attack. Sexy find.

P.S. 2500th post, I rule as a Smash Master

Yeah i didnt explain it totally.

As you dash towards the item, as soon as you let go of the control stick you enter screech stop, while all characters have some sort of different stopping animation. During this screech stop, once Sonic picks up an item he automatically enters a grind which doesnt last very long or go very far. All other characters are stuck in lag from picking up the item as they stand in place. Out of this short lasting grind, you can throw the item instantly, dash attack, or glidetoss. Remember you can do this out of a full dash, you dont need to foxtrot towards the item or anything, just run up to it, the in rapid succession, let go of the control stick, press A/Z and glidetoss :)

So how should the entire thing go, like you SS before you end up at the banana, Sonic can pick it up and go into a grind from there, and essentially it gives us the ability to delay DA or glide-toss?

If that's true, then what's the benefit we reap from this? Is it a elongated delayed-DA, or more mindgame potential with the added ability to glide-toss and attack from there? Or did I not interpret that right at all and it is the ability to glidetoss FROM the grind and apply the above? Again I'm not even entirely sure of what this is, a video demonstration would be much more clear to me as I same sometimes more of a visual learner... or at least when it coems to new things.

And if this is a new Sonic-specific AT, should we call it the screech-toss/attack?

I'll test this out soon. This sounds interesting if it works.

Well i wont be able to get a video up for at least 11 hours, so if anyone wants to see what it looks like, youll have to do it yourself. Its not very hard though. Even if you cant pull off a glidetoss instantly, you should be able to notice that sonic can pick up and throw an item normally much quicker than any other character when he does this

Wow...

That's definately much faster than DA to Glide Tossing.
I'm going to have to implement this for Diddys and Snakes more often...

Oh, and <3 the Rayquaza theme.

this is funny, because this should be obvious, yet i dont do this at all. i almost always dashattack to pick them up. this is way better.

looks like he picks it up during screech stop animation, where anything can be done, then glide toss right after. its smart usage of screech stop. love it. steak.

Good find DJB.

@Kojin - It's funny how many things that seem so obvious that we don't discover until later. Like the Dthrow tech and now this.

It does look insanely awesome and adds to Sonic's speed tricks, no more DA lag when picking up items :D
