You all know who’s already confirmed, so I’m not going to indicate them. Questions? Comments? Concerns?

Personal Additions & Alternatives

Dark Samus: So I guess Dark Samus may be de-confirmed, but I'll let her stay on this part of my list. And no, she would not be a clone, or any of that other crap people say against her inclusion in Brawl. People who think so just didn't really pay attention to the games she was in. She had good reasons for being included, but even I always knew her chances weren't that great. We'll see.

Petey Piranha: Sakurai telling us that most hidden characters being unlocked through the Subspace Emissary got me to thinking that perhaps some or all of the bosses can be unlocked for regular play (as characters, Assist Trophies or Poké Balls) after you defeat them. Petey has been my favorite Super Mario Bros. character since his debut, and I’d love to see him as a playable character over Bowser Jr. While Bowser Jr. is more important, Petey has gained a bit of popularity as a recurring boss. He was also on Sakurai’s list, whereas Bowser Jr. wasn’t. I even went ahead prepared a viable special move set for Petey (shown here), but his threads have been closed because of his boss status.

Black Knight: ...is a really badass-looking character, and he’s a villain (big plus in my book when it comes to character inclusions). But it would automatically seem that his playstyle would cause a problem for him. It’s difficult to imagine him as anything other than a slow, bulky character with powerful attacks. We all know that also describes Ike, but even outside of the Fire Emblem cast there might be other characters that are too similar. Ganondorf comes to mind; if he got his sword he would probably end up being quite similar. Thankfully Ganondorf has magical attacks to make him more varied, but I doubt that even a de-cloned Ganondorf would drop the slow/heavy/strong style. I’m not saying it’s impossible to make Black Knight unique, and I would love to see him in Brawl, but I guess his chances aren’t really superb. BK, have it your way.

Sukapon: I just love this guy’s motions. He’s almost as entertaining as Mr. Game & Watch. Seeing them fight against each other would simply be epic. I’m not sure about Sukapon’s chances, but he seems to be pretty popular. I say, why not.

Mii: I was keener on this idea back when I first heard it, but now I’m not so sure. I don’t like the idea of a customizable character, but a Mii with the default male or female settings could work. It could use a variety of attacks based on Wii Sports and Wii Play, including the giant cow for a Final Smash.

I'm not against Midna, but I chose Vaati over her because it adds more veriety to the Zelda cast. Link, Zelda and (likely) Ganondorf are all taken from Twilight Princess, but I'd like the older games to get their representation as well.

Risky assessment. Personally, I rather like most of it, but there are a few places where I would like to see changes.

I understand your Dark Samus inclusion, playing it safe because Ridley still does have a shot at being like Petey as a boss.

I sort of disagree with the Black Knight as a forth rep, simply because it would be so hard to give him a completely unique role. I figure his chances are best as an AT at best, especially with how Ike was set up, and the Black Knight was superior nearly every way.

I still question Young/WW Link... I don't like the idea.

Only other one I am not a fan of is the Villager. Other than that, I really like the list.

I’ve never played Animal Crossing, so I don’t know what the Villager would do. I didn’t base his inclusion on the dated icon theory, but rather the inclusion of so many other Animal Crossing objects in the game. There’s a stage, an item, and an Assist Trophy, so I don’t think it stretches the imagination too much to see the Villager as a playable character.

I kind of agree with the Black Knight thing. And as I was explaining to vesperview, I'd rather have a more varied cast as opposed to so many from one game. I just think he looks cool.

Finally, a character roster that's actually possible. Nice job Darkpaladin, though I may have to disagree with Dark Samus. I've been working on my own roster for about a month or so now, and hopefully I'll have it posted by tonight so you can understand my rationale.

Since I'm why Darkpaladin lists Black Knight, there is a way to make Black Knight different from Ike: Range.

Ragnell and Alondite are pretty much identicle sibling swords, same workings. Only difference is how Black Knight fights compared to how Ike fights. Black Knight's Specials would be a lot less mobile (compared to Aether and Ranger Critical). Black Knight could be given a swordwave move (ranged sword strike, something Alondite can do) and probably some faster short range moves. His movespeed would be a bit faster, but he'd have NO running speed to talk of.

He could be done differently from Ike, but it'd be very Luigi'd in his movements, but enough to be worth a character slot.

This is true; you are basically the source of all my Fire Emblem knowledge.

Wow he is a bad guy in 2 games... wow.
Three. Four Swords, Four Swords Adventures and Minish Cap. Sounds like you don't like him much...

I come from the land of the ice and snow..
Very nice roster, props for Isaac and K. Rool!

My only small gripe is that FE has too many guys. Don't get me wrong, I -love- FE, I just don't think 4 reps is a realistic amount, and certainly not Black Knight as the 4th, since Ike is already slow.

If there was to be a fourth(and I sure hope so) I'd like a unique idea like a Pegasus Rider or an Archer, but if that's not possible, Sothe, Hector, or any of those other guys would work, just not another sword user >.<

Unfortunatly our best choice for Pegasus would be a Sword weilder (Sheeda). Hector wouldn't be much better than Black Knight when it comes to how fast he'd be. Sothe is possible, but unlikely. The only main character with a Bow would be post-promotion Lyndis... an we saw where she went.

Oh, and here's the Petey Piranha moveset I came up with:

Standard Special <Sludge Ball>: This attack launches a big ball of sludge from Petey’s mouth. The ball travels in an arched trajectory and doesn’t go very far, but when it hits the ground it leaves a puddle of sludge for a few moments. The puddle is slippery to walk on for other characters.

Side Special <Flower Thump>: Petey lunges his massive head forward like a club and smacks enemies in front of him. Although this attack is slow and leaves Petey open afterwards, it is one of his most damaging attacks. If used in the air, the momentum of Petey’s huge head will actually cause him to flip all the way around, and the attack acts as a meteor attack.

Up Special <Piranha Wings>: Petey Piranha will start flapping his wings rapidly and look as though he is struggling to remain airborne. He can actually fly a decent distance in both the vertical and horizontal direction, depending on which way you choose to go.

Down Special <Whirlwind>: Petey spins around once quickly with his leaves outstretched. They each generate a whirlwind that travels sideways (even in the air, they will go sideways). The whirlwinds cause minor damage, but can push foes away from Petey in times of danger.

Final Smash <Sludge Bath>: After grabbing the Smash Ball, Petey looks skyward and launches a stream of sludge into the air. It covers the stage with slippery sludge. Sludge piranha monsters rise from the puddles and snap at nearby players. They are actually quite damaging and can KO foes at higher percentages. The sludge disappears after some time, but Petey is free to move around and attack while his opponents struggle with the mess.

A lot easier than coming up with moves for Bowser Jr. or Geno, I'll say that much. I hope my theory is true...

That's a pretty good move set,
the only thing I suggest is for his FS, make him fly up in a plant(think Super Mario Strikers charged), then shoot sludge down :)

Actually, I think it's three games that the Wind Mage is in. Lets see, there's Minish Cap, Four Swords Adventures for Gamecube, and then there's Four Swords for the Gameboy. Yup, three games, and he was tight in each and every single one. So yeah, Vaati deserves a shot to be in Brawl.

Edit: Whoops! Someone beat me to it. Sorry, I just don't like it when someone bad mouths a cool reoccuring villain like Vaati. I don't hear anybody badmouthing that Vant dude who did a horrible job as a secondary villain. I mean c'mon, Onox did a way better job!

I think you mean Zant. :) He made for a good plot twist, but he's a lame villain compared to Vaati or Ganondorf.
Gotta hate those typos. :ohwell:

Yeah Zant. Well, his personality made him an instant loser in my book. I mean c'mon, childish temper tantrums when clearly he's a monarch staple in the Twilight Realm. Paaathetic!

Very nice. The best character roster I've seen so far. If i could add someone it would be Sukapon, and maybe Takamura.

Yes, it's an excellent roster. It includes everyone's favorite characters. And therein lies the problem.

47 characters is a LOT. As in, it would be the major reason that the game was delayed. And imagine all of the technical work - programming, balancing, etc etc. In the end, there's no way even Sakurai could come up with unique movesets for 47 characters.

Of course, if there does turn out to be 47 characters, I'm all for it - your roster looks great. But I highly doubt we'll break a 40-man roster, much less nearly 50.

Fire Emblem would be very lucky to get three reps let alone FOUR!

And even if there was four theres no way Black Knight would get in before Sigurd, Lyn, Roy or even Ashnard. The series only just got out of Japan and the series pales in comparison to Metroid, Star Fox and Donkey Kong in sales and in terms of importnace, let alone the fact that Ike and Black Knight would play very similar (granted there are possibilities for Black Knight to not be a clone). I cant stand these delusions of grandeur Fire Emblem fans have around here. All it is adolecent facination with swords, im looking at you Takamaru fans (who I im ok with).

And the funny thing is that I enjoy the games in the series.

That aside I like the roster. Good to see Ray01 and Isaac who are sometimes forgotten in these rosters.

6. Geno

Good job including Bowser Jr., not going to touch Geno with a ten-foot pole.

Donkey Kong
7. Donkey Kong
8. Diddy Kong
9. King K. Rool

Good.

The Legend of Zelda
10. Link
11. Zelda/Sheik

A resounding "meh" to Vaati. I'd rather see Tingle.

17. Jigglypuff
18. Mewtwo
19. Lucario

Good.

Fire Emblem
20. Ike
21. Marth
22. Micaiah
23. Black Knight

Waaay too many. I don't think we're even sure that FE will get two reps, let alone four reps with three from the same series.

Metroid
24. Samus/Zero Suit Samus
25. Ridley
26. Dark Samus

Good.

StarFox
27. Fox
28. Falco
29. Krystal

Good.

Kirby
30. Kirby

38. Pit
39. Captain Olimar
40. Mr. Game & Watch
41. Ice Climbers
42. Isaac
43. Villager
44. Ray 01

Good. Won't touch Isaac with a ten-foot pole, and besides all the good, there's a noticeable lack of both retro and Japan-only.

Third-Party
45. Snake
46. Sonic
47. Mega Man

Mega Man's good, but I think Bomberman deserves a spot more.

I actually always thought 40 would be the minimum. I don't even think we have the entire starting roster on the Dojo yet, so I can easily see a final cast of around 45 fighters. If fans here on the boards can make half-decent movesets for the characters I have listed in about five minutes, Sakurai could definitely make excellent ones for them in the amount of time he's been given (a little more than a year, I want to say).

I don't like your roster at all for personal reasons
I'm sorry? I tried to keep it within the realm of likeliness, not just personal preference.
