One of my favorite things to do as Wolf was to use it as a "counter" of sorts and following with a jab or Forward tilt/smash... Considering it's size and speed, it was relatively easy to do and even allowed me to stop smaller combos in brawl (such as, say, Fox using Dair-->DSmash)

but this isn't possible anymore! The range is worse, it is slower to deactivate, but that doesn't even matter when it sends people upwards where following up is harder.

ugh... why...?

Have you tried jump cancelling his shine and trying to follow up that "weird" angle it sends them at? You might be surprised at what shenanigans Wolf gets up to with this new reflector. :)

But why the reflector? He has so many other moves that coudl be used for those things, such as his throws... breaking combos was awesome.

You can still break combos with it but now it sends them up for juggling as well. In fact a lot of his moves lead into juggling or more juggling.

You can jump out of it broskii. Makes it hella short and good. Hits on frame 1, you can jump out of it frame 4 (or something? pls verify), so it's pretty safe if you know what you're doing, and you have a hella sexy angle for Wolf Flash or other follow-ups.

Thank you based Strong Bad. Is that the same as the other spacies? And can you jump out of it for the whole rest of the animation or is there a point where you can't jump out anymore?
yes

Actually, Wolfs jump is frame 4 (Fox is 3, Falco 5) so jump out is Frame 5 if Shine is Frame 1. But its still insanely fast
Not how that math is done, the 4th frame of shine is the first frame where your jump input will work, but then he has the 4 frame jumpsquat. So when you shine, the earliest frame you are airborne from that shine is frame 8.

If you want to follow up the shine with f-tilt of f-smash after using it as a counter then just Shine, jump out of shine, wavedash to follow your opponent and do your desired grounded move.
