Your first stock SD was wifi gaying you for sure. This happens to me all the time on wifi, which is one of the reasons I tend to stay away from it a lot <.<

I noticed several mistakes from both sides, but I'll go over a couple of things that stood out to me the most.

Rolling: I will admit, rolling on wifi can be godly. There's nothing more frustrating than knowing your opponent is going to roll, attempt to punish, and can't because of lag. However in this match, that didn't appear to be the case so much. You got punished several times for rolling - mostly into ZSS's down smash, and also her side b. I think there's a time and place to roll, but not predictably. You roll out of uncomfortable situations, which can be both helpful and hurtful, depending on how well your opponent can read and punish you.

Upsmash: Try not to use this as an approach move so much, and use it more to punish landings (or out of a down tilt/aerial cancel follow-up. Zelda's upsmash has a cooldown which is punishable, and once opponents get used to shielding and expecting the move, it's actually not all that great unless their shield is very low, since it shield pokes.

Mix-up: I think you're a little better than you were when I last checked out your vids, which is good. But something you should still look into is mixing it up a bit. If you stick with the same pattern and do the same things, your opponent will always know what to expect and they'll be ready to react. If they know you'll always fish for the kill with upsmash, they'll get in the habit of putting up their shield when you get close. They'll learn what moves can punish your upsmash when they shield. This is just an example.

Playing late can make it hard to constantly be creative though, I know. I myself suffer the auto-pilot syndrome when I'm tired or not focused, and I'll often stick to simple game play, rather than make my opponent have to work harder to figure out what I'm doing. This is something that we should work on, as well as many other players.

Entertaining matches. o=
Things I think you could improve on:
-Time N-air correctly to follow-up effectively with a D-tilt, Grab, B-air, etc.
-Use less F-air
-Be less dependent on smashes
-Don't over-compensate so much - puts you in bad positions at times
-Use Din's less aggressively and try baiting an air-dodge with it to set up for a D-tilt lock or other punishes to mix it up. It's also good for sniping and covering openings
-Less Nayru's Love. Learning how to Love Jump and momentum cancel could put you in a better position at times
-Try using N-air or U-smash when pressured while shielding. I find them equally reliable for aerial-esque hits

I hope that helps!

the only thing I could say besides, those were nice to watch I'd say that you apparently where like looking just for flashy stuff, it's not bad of course, but some stuff made you too predictable and payed for it u.u

I really like your Zelda, and I hope to see more of your matches... then I read on other video some stuff that I understood as if you were retired.

Thanks for the input Near. Points 2,3,5, and 6 are all results of being reactive instead of proactive so I'll be working on those the most. The others I will improve on eventually. Thank you very much!

As for your matches:

1st Match:

Loved it from start to finish. There isn't much I can say you need to work on. Your Love Jumping, Ledge Warping, baits, avoidance of over-relying on Din's and Usmash, and dtilt followups were all on point. If anything, my biggest pet peeve is just to dash grab after Jabbing at low %'s and when your opponent's in the air at low-mid %'s, due to the forced landing it produces. It usually works for me so you can incorporate it as well.

2nd match:

Loved the flashiness and the skill so I can't say much other than the missed Cypher grab on his second stock. Other than that, your game play is pretty on point. Much of the comments for the first match applies here as well.

Hopefully I'll have more videos to post here.

Thanks for the comments guys! I was mostly being flashy because it was just Wi-Fi friendlies, nothing serious. And I did go on a hiatus in late 2011, but I returned shortly after.

I look forward to seeing more of your Zelda, Ayato. o=

Typical Zelda boards... nobody ever does anything...

Sexy Zelda though.

Up smash is godly in doubles if you decide to go in. It's long duration allows for really nice follow ups. Of course, it leaves you open so if you're in between your two opponents, avoid using it unless one person is really far away. Down tilt has a similar effect and in a 2 vs. 1 (your advantage) situation, it's deadly. I don't think I saw you use it at all. It's an excellent option for both singles and doubles.

Definitely take a few minutes to master her reverse Nayru's momentum cancel. If there's any of her ATs you need to know, it's this one. It would have saved you at least a couple times in that video.

Never use Din's at the very edge of a stage. It'll kill you.

Lol @ the end of the 4th game... Really great job taking first!

^Good work Ed :)

The "semi-mediocre" commentary was annoying. I'm not a commentary fan :/ .

I was rather entertained by the commentary from ESAM and Nick Riddle lol. It helped me a little bit when I was self-critiquing. Example was when I was blindly trying to kill Nana when I should've just took my time to kill her lol.

This MU is so bad. You make it look easy, Ed xD

The funny thing about this MU is that it's one of the few MUs that I approve of excessive smash spamming. Ed, this is what you would play like if you played wifi. But this is how the MU is played, sadly. You did great! Watch out for Upsmash and Nayru's Love cooldown. I shook my head when he chaingrabbed you out of a trip ;_;

Oh man that trip sucked!!! Thanks!! I sadly didn't fair better against ESAM's ICs but it went much better than the time when I came here raving about that ISSDI nonsense. Then again, he was outta practice with that thankfully lol.

I haven't played ESAM's ICs, but yeah he'd definitely be good to practice the MU on. I think Delux and Smoom were the only ICs I've played so far, and they swept me pretty good lol. Sheik is obviously out of the question for this. I get scared of using Zelda's Down Smash and Down Tilt too in this MU actually... they can shield grab. You did great with Din's as well, covering yourself just enough to not be stuck in cooldown and get grabbed. Also, I approve of your 'ledge get ups' as in, mixing in your moves from the ledge. One thing I learned is to NEVER get up attack from the edge vs ICs, unless you really think they won't shield grab you, but even so. You were wise and didn't do this. Oh and Nick said you guys played? How'd you do against him?

I lost to him 2-1. I shocked him and beat his Pika in game 1 on BF, prompting him to go ICs and FD game 2 where I got beat 1-stock low. Game 3 I took him to Rainbow to get him off ICs and just because I had no idea where to go. I was about to even the match to last stock and I tripped, allowing him to live for a while longer. I lost last stock mid.

Fsmash to Dtilt for coverage is rather safe until the Powershield or if they are already to far in on Fsmash.

that was a nice set Ed, but I think you missed some kill(s) at certain times, but still pretty solid win!

I killed yesterday my friend's CPU IC at like 60 or so with Uair lol

he/she just didn't do anything to avoid it :p

Spotdodging (which happened too much) and smash spamming as Zelda is the absolute worst against ICs. ICs just need to spotdodge themselves then they easily grab Zelda. At least that's my experience against Big D :(

Not sure how the MU should be played. But staying on the edge, spamming smashes and spotdodging will get you wrecked by a good ICs.

I certainly don't main ICs but is it actually a good idea to rush in at Zelda when Nana's separated from Popo? Think that ICs made some really bad choices...

The thing is that I played a good ICs, in ESAM. Same strategy kept me close. Cornering myself isn't an end all situation, I look at it as they only have a few ways to get to me should I have a lead. React accordingly.

Spot dodging I admit is bad if it gets read; I won out in that aspect. Didn't get too many hard punishes in the end.

Popo alone rushing down Zelda really is nothing to worry about. It's like a slightly better Luigi to me. Just space him out, though personally I like to execute Nana if she's alone. Just gotta do better at it.

It's still a crap MU but without the scare of ISSDI, it isn't too scary. Max spacing is your friend.

I can't say I"ve played an IC at his level but I haven't found much success in cornering myself. Though that might be because my opponent probably has the most Zelda MU experience as well as knowing my playstyle (which coincidentally, is what every Zelda shouldn't do). ICs can keep making guesses on Zelda until they get it right which is why I don't like cornering myself. The guesses are usually in the form of spotdodging -> grab, waiting for a reaction -> grab, or ISSDI grabbing. I guess harnessing some patience (and not going in for a grab without thinking) is what really makes life hard for Zelda (ie. standing right outside of Zelda's attacking range without rushing in).

As for Popo going in on Zelda, that's definitely a good thing for Zelda. I meant to say that was a terrible choice for the IC.

Desynched ice blocks give Zelda a tough time. She can just Din's blizzard wall and at times, ice block.

last time I played a good IC, I found the cornering myself strat helpful in some way, this guy got very very good with his IC's and our MK vs IC's matches are stupidly even!

but when I went Zelda, for some reason it was helpful, it was all about reacting to, conditioning and reading him correctly... but yeah, when he got a grab it was ggs lol

killing the ******** IC can be easy or a problem, depending on the random factor, the are times when that guy/girl, somehow didn't run into my smash attacks(as it happens most of the time or should happen) or jumped and airdodged in time and that is stupid >_>

still if you have him/her close and in the air, the kicks are super easy stuff

Hm here's a stream with some janky friendlies. There was too much glare on the stream TV so I was asked to entertain the stream people. Used my rusty Zelda, and there may be some Peach who knows. Starts at 12:00-ish. A Peach game or two at 28:00 for those that care.

What region are you in? I get good connections with the MW, WC, South central Canada and North Mexico.

Northeast Florida. Is it worth a try? I'd say I have a pretty decent wifi connection.

Well... Looks like I need some serious work after that beat down... Thank you so much for taking the time to record, though! I hope I get some nice critiques that will help me improve my Zelda. I was definitely starting to slip near the end...

And what a nice wifi connection!
