I don'tk know what the majority of the SWF cast calls it, the name tage that sits in front of CSPs. That big white Serifed Font. I'm not talking about the black "banner" that overlaps each CSS icon, i'm talking about the text that appears when you select a character that is located just above your name. I remember some guy told me that he edited every text that said "lucario" to "mewtwo". I'm assuming this meant he did the nametag and was succesful with it.

Yes I'm trying to edit them, found them on Common5.pac, exported edited them, did not touch their image dimension or image type. All I did was fill everything with black, used a new font and wrote over on top in white. saved as a png, as it was exported as png. replaced the respective one in smashbox .57, lalala, l4, 0 transparent colour, exactly the same stuff as an original "nametag". put in on the game, freezes. not a BEEP, but a softer quieter beep roughly 0.7 seconds after you enter a CSS. I mean I exported an original and brough it back in, has the same palette, size and everything as the new ones i made.

Why can't I edit them?

I don't know why you're touching that stuff in the first place...probably because they're encrypted and it's pointless to try to edit them? I find no purpose in doing that.

Don't know.
With me it worked fine (using BrawlBox .59 to replace the files).

P.S. I succeeded to replace the character name under lucario's in battle portrait.

Where'd you find the battle portrait name? I've looked all over Common5.pac but haven't found any more Marths I can change...

i just wanna move the text off to one side, dont like having giant text in the center. seems like everyone is doing that only.

okay so i finally got a chance to try it.

here's the problem. I go into my CSS, none of the characters have that newly edited nametag, and no CSPs i got on the common 5 are shown, just defaulted ones. I checked it out with brawlbox, the new nametags are existent, and my CSPs are in their place. I also changed the (back of) hand cursor you control to a dark gray to test.

Is it because of the way i located the text? here's what ivysaur looks like. I want it to be off to the right side and not in the center.

do l4 files read images like a screen blending mode in photoshop? White being opaque, black being transparent and all this at grayscale?
