DISCLAIMER!l Don't immediately flame me for posting this, don't say I'm bashing on Samurai Panda (I love and respect his viewpoints), don't say this disproves the Conspiracy Theoracy, don't say that I'm a noob.
Well, as you saw today, 2-Player Event Mode was confirmed! This is especially great because having friends on the side-lines while your playing Events, and passing the controller after/if you fail is boring. This implementation was spectacular :D!
Now, I'm going to make a point in regards to Samurai Panda's Conspiracy Theoracy. Today, we saw that in the 2-P events that Kirby is playable on the very first one, Pokemon Trainer was in on the second one, and Zelda was present on the sixth one. These three characters were all un-playable at the demo, and, this contradicts Samurai Panda's Conspiracy Theoracy that states that the characters from the demo will comprise the starting roster. (I encourage you to read the Conspiracy Theoracy prior to continuing reading, it is important you understand it's concept. From this point forward I will assume you have knowledge of the Conspiracy Theoracy).
Now, it seems un-likely that Kirby would be un-lockable to begin with, yet even beeing un-lockable after the first event is un-likely. Pokemon Trainer is also on the box art, having him as an un-lockable after being prsent on the boz art makes little sense. Same applies for Zelda.
Here's a list of pros and cons of the Anti Theoracy
PROS:
People like PT, Wario, and Kieby are all on the box art.
The Melee select screen was tiny at the demo
The screen we saw in the With Anyone update could have been an edited version of the demo's screen. Maybe Sakurai is tenative on showing the select screen.
The select screen did not have "?" marks, a staple of the Smash series.
The character porrtraits were "oversized" (this is more subjectional).
CONS:
Sakurai clearly stated he is no longer hung up about un-lockalbes being revealed
Sakurai might be removing prior traditions from Smash (no questoin marks)
It might just be the case that you un-lock Event mode, and 2-P Event after un-locking all characters.
It could be just like Samurai Panda stated, you un-lock characters rapidly
You may be able to un-lock characters via alternate methods again (un-lock Kirby from Events/SSE).
