Rightyo then, for this, choose one Pokemon from every generation that you'd like to see in Smash. This is purely for fun, so please don't say stuff like "Pokemon has enough reps" or start discussing similar things. This is just what you'd like to see. I'll give mine as an example.
Generation 1: Gengar
Generation 2: Heracross
Generation 3: Wurmple
Generation 4: Togekiss
Generation 5: Victini
Generation 6: Aegislash
Generation 7: Necrozma
Generation 8: Cinderace

You can give reasons as to why or not. Have fun with this thread.

Choosing pokemon that aren't already in...

Gen 1
Thinking outside the box, I'm going with Sandslash. Ground type moves haven't been a major part of any Smash movesets yet, and Sandslash has that set of Wolverine/Vega-style claws he can fight with.

Gen 2
Scizor, hands down. He'd have a very flashy moveset.

Gen 3
I'm looking through the gen 3 list, and I'm really thinking it'd have to be Gardevoir. One of the most iconic choices that isn't a starter or legendary.

Gen 4
Now, this one was my first starter ever, and I know I'm biased here, but I would be ecstatic if Empoleon were playable.

Gen 5
I'm being creative again and going with Reuniclus. Psychic-type moves might be cool, and I can't remember if there's any current Smash fighters that hover above the ground.

Gen 6
I don't think there's a lot to choose from here, but I'll go with either Pancham or Pangoro. I'm not sure which one would be better. But Pancham has become a bit of a series mascot over time, and Pangoro would be good because Smash could always use more heavies.

Gen 7
I'll choose Tsareena. There's no grass type pokemon beside Ivysaur, and Tsareena would make a cool "femme fatale" type character (not that Smash needs one cuz, well, there's Bayonetta--but you know).

Gen 8
I'm just gonna go insane and say either Wooloo or Dubwool. What kind of moveset would a plain old sheep or ram have in Smash? I wanna see that.

Gen 1: Gengar could be really fun.
Gen 2: Scizor is definitely the top gen 2 choice.
Gen 3: Sceptile is a classic.
Gen 4: Weavile could be fast and tricky.
Gen 5: Krookodile is just plain badass.
Gen 6: Noivern is my favorite Pokémon. Yes i’m biased.
Gen 7: Lycanroc would be interesting.
Gen 8: Toxtricity is one of the best Galar Pokémon.

Zoroark
Heliolisk

Edit: Damn, I guess I really have a thing for certain types.

1: Starmie (or Gengar)
2: Ampharos (wouldn't be mad at Tyranitar either)
3: Mawile
4: Chatot (or Roserade I guess)
5: Cofagrigus (or Reuniclus)
6: Malamar (or Hawlucha)
7: Drampa (or Golisopod)
8: Grapploct (or Grimmsnarl, Appletun)

You can probably see why I don't tend to get excited about Pokemon newcomers, my tastes are too eclectic I guess.

1: Gengar > Electabuzz > Kabutops
2: Houndoom > Gligar > Sneasel
3: Seviper > Zangoose > Deoxys
4: Gliscor > Giratina Origin > Toxicroak
5: Cofagrigus > Zoroark > Kyurem
6: Clawitzer > Malamar > Dragalgae
7: Golisopod > Lycanrock Midnight > Guzzlord
8: Orbeetle > Toxtricity > Corviknight

I definitely feel you Sabrewulf. Other than Gengar and Lucario, I don't think my favorites are really all that popular either. Nice to see a fellow Cofagrigus fan. I think It's my favorite Pokemon overall. It looks like we have fairly similar tastes. Lucario is among my favorite generation 4 Pokemon so at least I got it (which is why I left it off the list).

Gen 1: Meowth (seems obvious), followed by Nidoking (due to being based off Baragon)
Gen 2: Lugia (my most wanted Pokémon and we need a second Legendary), followed by Tyranitar (due to being based off Godzilla)
Gen 3: Sceptile (one option of a Grass Type), followed by Gardevoir (due to potential)
Gen 4: Garchomp (seems like a great Pokémon) followed by Glaceon (Glaceon is very cute)
Gen 5: Excadrill (has some deadly moves), followed by Zebstrika (would be an underdog)
Gen 6: Tyrantrum (we need more dinosaurs in Smash), followed by Goodra (Has a unique design)
Gen 7: Decidueye (I prefer Incineroar, but Decidueye would be fun too), followed by Mimikyu (Has some deadly moves)
Gen 8: Dragapult (has some unique moves and being a ghost/dragon type), followed by Frosmoth (Ice/Bug Type Pokémon)

Honerable mentions: Yamper, Boltund, Cinderace, Corviknight and Ninjask

Note: added Gardevoir and fixed up a bit of stuff

Can I just choose from the first 4 Generations? Because that's the only generations I played or watch anything from so my knowledge of Pokemon only is limited to that pretty much.

Still up Peach's dress.

Honestly there's about ten Gen 1 Pokemon I think would be neat, but Meowth's freaking Meowth.
Team Rocket iconography alone is IMO important enough to put him even over my favourite Pokemon of all time in Alakazam and Machamp.
Eevee is also a big deal, but...well I just prefer Meowth and evolution would be hard to pull off in Smash whilst still remaining true to Pokemon.

On the opposite side of the scale Scizor was the least bad option for Gen 2 that would work as a stand alone.
Togepi and Wobbuffet are a bit too limited, and whilst I like Feraligtr, he wasn't big enough to stand out compared to other gen starters.
Considered Umbreon or Espeon but they're more known as a pair as part of the Eeveelution curse.

Blaziken and Gardevoir were the only picks that seemed reasonable for Gen 3. Went for Blaziken in the end due to May.

Piplup was pushed hard in Gen 4, and is Dawn's most famous Pokemon...

...and then I gave up and just picked a bunch I thought were cool in the later gens.

So I'm guessing this would replace our current setup? Or are you saying one from each Gen in addition to the ones we already have?

That'd be a LOT of pokemon lol. I'm just going to write mine as if they were the ONLY pokemon present

Gen 1: Mewtwo- Just make him Heavier and I'm happy

Gen 2: Ampharos- Down B Thunder, Neutral B Thunder Punch, Side B Body Slam (chance of Stun), Up B Cotton Guard (creates a Cloud Platform that instantly bounces him upward before quickly disappearing)

Gen 3: Gardevoir- Down B Reflect (only Projectiles), Neutral B Psychic (works like Zelda's Side B), Side B Dazzling Gleam (looks like Metwo's Down B; low damage, high Shield damage), Up B Teleport

Gen 4: Garchomp- Down B Stomping Tantrum (Causes Trip on either side of him; fastfall slam to ground if used in air), Neutral B Dragon Claw (Powerful slash in front of him; can be used in quick succession for multiple Slashes like Fire Emblem characters' Sword Dance), Side B Flamethrower, Up B Dragon Rush (can control direction to a certain degree)

Gen 5: Gothietelle- Gardevoir Semi-Echo but with Dark Pulse instead of Dazzling Gleam (short range dark energy pulse wave on either side of her) and Cosmic Power instead of Teleport (Teleports like Zelda instead of like Metwo or Palutena)

Gen 6: Pangoro- Down B Counter, Neutral B Brick Break (Falcon Punch but with Dark aura instead of Fire), Side B Vital Throw (command Grab like Bowser side B), Up B Sky Uppercut (like Mii Brawler's but better vertical recovery)

Gen 7: Ultra Beasts- (Works like Pokemon Trainer in that there's 3 of them, but there's no actual trainer in Background) Down B switches out Pokemon through a quick Ultra Wormhole effect to a Different UB (Nihilego, Buzzwole, Phermosa) [Moves & effects are for pokemon in that order]
Neutral B- Acid (burns), Fell Stinger (stuns), Silver Wind (Pushes Back)
Side B- Headsmash (High Power & Knockback, Startup Lag), Hammer Arm (High Power & Spike, End Lag), Bug Buzz (High Power both sides, Sing Range)
Up B- Psywave (High vertical, Short Horizontal recovery), Lunge (Low Vertical, Long Horizontal recovery), High Jump Kick (Like Incineroar's, but can cancel out to free fall anytime)

Gen 8: Toxtricity- Down B- Eerie Impulse (stun on both sides), Neutral B- Poison Jab (low damage, Flower effect), Side B- Overdrive (slams guitar exuding electricity overhead and down; wide arc, high damage, Spike effect on Sweetspot), Up B- Boomburst (sound explosion directly beneath propels character high up and spikes anyone directly beneath; low horizontal recovery)
