Character Model Swapping

Partially what the title says and sorry if this is in the wrong place. I was curious if you can either swap the high poly models with the low poly off screen models or just copy them over the high poly ones and create a different atmosphere to the game. I know editing models is possible but if this is, it'd be amazing. Just a thought.

You can have the game load the high poly models over the lowpoly models and vice verse owob. I think Yakult did this already though.
