So as I post this, it's September 16th, which means there are two upcoming directs: one tomorrow and one that's ten days from now on the 26th. This also happens to be the first month of Fall, and I've noticed that we get one new character every season. I'm not saying either direct will definitely have Smash news, but who knows?
