Darkrain is a machine, holy ****. I was watching him on the stream the things he did... He's so straight forward, I gotta add that to my game

That mango match againsed him was tense, looks like he's lost the ability to smile, took everything SUPER serious by the looks of it, inc his other matches I saw. I mean take the game seriously by all means but not your relationship with other players. I would love to be wrong but he just seems like really hard work in person.

in all seriousness, it's just how darkrain is. from what i've heard, he's a nice guy, and watching him play, it seems impossible that darkrain does not have fun with this game

Even when we play friendlies, he will joke and talk, but hardly shows expression. But when he's not he always has a smile on his face.

Good to hear! In the 3 or so times I caught the stream I saw some nice falcon porn. Was interesting to see the hax vs dr technicality vs brute man power in action.

Oh yeah, darkrain is a super nice guy. I've talked and hung with him in person a couple of times.

He also housed some of my Canadian buddies for event52 back in 2008 (Raynex, europhoria, and idea), and they had only nice things to say about him, his wife, and their house (she was his fiancé back then).

Oh Robbleguy, you only watched a playthrough of Norcal's campaign. You need to visit the optional bosses.

Also, I assume you're invoking the Mango rule wrt 3rd best Falcon.
Norcal has 100s of hours of post-game content. It's all final fantasy up in here.

I was incredibly impressed that Darkrain was not only able to put up a fight against Mango in a Falcon ditto, but also look like he could potentially beat him. I'd like to see what he could do if he played more.

Darkrain is probably the most defensive Falcon though, it's hard to get in because he's not willing to make the first move unless he's sure he'll hit you with a hitbox that beats yours.. and when he does hit you, he'll read your mind and stuff. It's a little frustrating playing vs him, or maybe I'm just tight I got destroyed. =(

^I think that's just him playing the matchup. His play against SFAT was definitely the opposite of that.

Oh definitely he's waay defensive. Or better yet, you could really call his play counter-attack(ive), he knows his punish game is so good that he's willing to be patient to bate openings or hope stray aerials connect.

time to bother the falcon boards... so i know i've been told i can grab both after falcon's second jab and after the gentlemen as marth, but does anyone know the frame windows for both? i'm just curious how many frames I have for each move. Memorizing frame data isn't that useful, but having some idea of the difficulty and relative difficulty of things I attempt seems useful

I mean all the time btw, are you sure your watching what I'm watching? Even Mango said this.
My bad, I'll just defer since I've never played him. I do think his main strength is his dash dancing anyway, so I can't disagree too much.

Darkrain was doing this really good tech where he'd close the gap between us whenever i nair'd his shield so that he could shieldgrab me. i'm pretty sure if the nairs are perfect (which they weren't) then it doesn't work, but if they're anything short of perfect then it does

kinda disappointed with how i played at FC, but at the same time not surprised. i have to ride a 2 hour bus to PA just to play someone i can learn from (Cactuar) nowadays. it sucks

lmao hax you did great. I could even tell while watching you on the stream that you seemed a little off your game and yet you were still playing way good. I mean you took a game of Mango (albeit he suicided a lot) but if you would have been playing your best , like I've seen you play, I think you really couldn't have gotten close to upsetting him. In short, everyone but maybe hbox and SFAT were looking way on top of their game and yet you made it to top 8 not playing your best. Sign of a true champion.

Get em next time aziz.

Your disapproval of jack not jump-cancelling his grabs might have finally inspired him to fix that **** lol.

I wanna see your arizer next tourney.

I am trying to understand the hitbox thread on falcon, but what does 'second punch starts' mean? I thought at first that it was the frame of startup, but then if you're late on the input does it just occur that many frames later?

jab 1

Total: 21
Hit: 3-5
Window of the second punch: 3-25
Second punch starts: 9

so does it hit on frame 3 and then the bunch starts on frame 9, or does it hit on frame 3 and then start 9 frames after the input on frame 12. If it's the former there are 6 + 4 = 10 frames in which to grab the first jab, while if it's the latter you have 9+4 frames to punish instead for 13 frames. Which is it?

jab 2
Total: 20
Hit: 5-7
Window of the knee: 2-25
Knee starts: 8

gentleman
Total: 32
Hit: 6-12
IASA: 23
Rapid Jabs Start: 13

Crazy techchasing idea
When you get a platform techchase, do an edgecanceled stomp on the edge they're closer to so you cover tech in place and easily cover the techroll to the short end (maybe fast enough to just stomp again on reaction if you miss the first one)
The edgecancel gives you enough time to run if they techroll to the long end
Thoughts???

More edgecanceling shenanigans
If you know they can't platform drop, edgecancel Dair -> instant turnaround grab???

Might as well edgecancel knee -> instant turnaround grab since it does more damage, but you don't have to risk a weak hit with dair.

That must be like +10 frame advantage though, grab would be an inescapable follow-up assuming unstaled moves.

Yeah, Darkrain's shield DI is very good.

i do that all the time

also, if you hit them with the edge cancelled stomp u can quickly do an aerial out of it extremely quick

jab 1

Total: 21
Hit: 3-5
Window of the second punch: 3-25
Second punch starts: 9
This means that when you press A to jab:
Falcon finishes the jab on frame 21.
The hitbox for the jab is active on frames 3, 4, and 5.
If you tap A again anytime between frame 3 and frame 25, Falcon will do the 2nd jab. If you double-tap A within 2 frames, he'll only do the 1st jab, and if you wait longer than frame 25, he'll do two 1st jabs.
The earliest the 2nd jab can start is frame 9, even though you can press A to "activate" it before then.

jab 2
Total: 20
Hit: 5-7
Window of the knee: 2-25
Knee starts: 8
Same deal here, except that the 2nd jab doesn't necessarily start when you hit A for the second time (if you pressed A for the 2nd jab between frames 3 and 9 on the 1st jab):
Falcon finishes the 2nd jab at frame 20 (20 frames after the 2nd jab starts).
The hitbox is active on frames 5, 6, and 7.
If you tap A anytime between frames 2 and 25, Falcon will gentleman. Tap too fast, he won't gentleman, wait too long, he'll finish the 2nd jab and then 1st jab.
The earliest the gentleman can start is frame 8, even though you can press A to "activate" it before then.

gentleman
Total: 32
Hit: 6-12
IASA: 23
Rapid Jabs Start: 13
Falcon finishes the gentleman 32 frames after he starts it.
The hitbox is active between frame 6 and frame 12.
If you do another input after frame 23, Falcon will interrupt the gentleman (possibly 9 frames early) and do whatever you input. Crouch is easiest, since it buffers.
The mechanics that govern whether Falcon rapid-jabs or not are complex, but the earliest the rapid-jabs can start is frame 13.

you can't press A twice before frame 3. that'd be equivalent to holding A for two frames.

I got to play Melee SD Remix the other day, Falcon is the same except with PAL gentlemen with is really nice. Unfortunately I was still doing my regular gentlemen technique out of habit so I didn't get to capitalize on it much. It's hella fun though, G&W having a real shield and being able to L-Cancel bair is sickness. Pichu's bair is also the Knee. Only it comes out faster. Like, it actually lightnings people and everything.

3 questions-
1) anyone have a link to ROM 5 thread
2) S2J how are you guys getting to Midwest apex in October?
3) If I go would you be interested in giving me private lessons in which I will pay you for a pre-determined $/hour?
