Update: 9/3/2012.

For those of you interested in building your own Gamecube controller to N64 adapter, you'll be interested in the cube64-dx. It is an improvement of the cube64, an adapter originally made in 2004 to adapt the Gamecube controller for use with the Nintendo 64 console. To build one you simply need to collect the required components and be competent at soldering small parts and wires together.

Site and Documentation - http://code.google.com/p/cube64-dx/

Building the adapter:

Instructions - http://code.google.com/p/cube64-dx/wiki/BuildingAdapter
Schematic - http://cube64-dx.googlecode.com/files/cube64-dx.pdf
Flashing the Firmware (Required): http://code.google.com/p/cube64-dx/wiki/FlashingFirmware

Purchasing an adapter online:

I've searched online and almost nobody seems to be selling cube64-dx's. However, for those of you interested in purchasing a Gamecube controller to N64 adapter online, you might be interested in a completely different adapter made by the guy over at raphnet.com

http://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/gc_to_n64_adapter/index.php?category=Adapters

This adapter from raphnet is not the cube64-dx, it is his own different solution. He's selling them for 29.99 CAD. That translates to $30.41 USD, not including shipping.

The guy at raphnet said that this is going to be his next project. Maybe some adapters will pop up. I like the hori, though.

how would the L & R pressure triggers be a problem? i opened up my gc controller recently and if i remember correctly there are 2 types of contacts for each button (L&R) sliders(1) and a switch(2). im going to look again and see if i can get some continuity tests going with one of my multimeters.

EDIT:getting some ohm readings off of a few switches, couldn't get anything off the sliders prob cuz no power; became uninterested and stopped cuz i prefer n64 controllers.

I want this, but opposite. I want a Nintendo 64 controller to Gamecube adapter so I can play melee with an N64 controller. I suck at Gamecube controllers but like melee.

But your product is still pretty cool.

I prefer arduino's and its simpler, if a little more expensive. However i have followed people who have had success using the pic's.

http://www.cs.duke.edu/~brownan/n642gc.html

the arduiono is amazing, not only can it do this a simple reflash turns it into a usb adapter for your n64 controllers plus much more.
That and you only need like one resistor, but it does require an external power supply which imo is the biggest downer.

Also the way the arduino handles the analog stick conversion appears to be more accurate and has customisable resolution

Also for n64 controllers for melee/brawl

I don't think the L and R triggers will be a problem. You won't have to press them down all the way to the click to use your shield.

He finished them quite a few months ago without anybody noticing. They go for $29.99 CAD if anyone is interested

It would feel soooo weird to z cancel with that controller
You use L, not Z. So it feels fine, plus you map your buttons, Z taunts with my configuration.

gamecube controllers are dumb. 64 controllers are pro as ****.
10 amens. Why would you want to play 64 without a 64 controller? The gamecube controllers are tiny anyway, I was never a big fan of them when I used to play console melee/other games.

I do have pretty big hands, but still. (You know what they say about people with big hands :troll:) N64 is where it's at.

How is the Gamecube too small. Your hands must be ginormous (among other things)

My only problem is the L/R triggers feel horrible. Can't explain why but they just do.
