You've probably already seen the posts on Dojo, about all the Wi-Fi online capabilities.
Sakurai said in one of his posts that there would be a lot of Wi-Fi features, and now many of us are set to wounder; is that it.

Post ideas for modes, and whether or not you think there are anymore left.

I want a ranking system and it wouldn't be that hard considering strikers has one. However Nintendo doesn't like super competitive play and expects for everyone to play on the same level. We'll most likely get some online stuff like...

Trading trophies only between friends
Coin Mode!

The with friends mode will have all the options. If everyone on this site add everyone else.
After 1 years time we will have thousands of friends and our own lobby where we can play games
at different skill levels.

It will keep track of wins and losses and what characters your good with. and win % with every character.
and what character you lose to the most.

Wins/Losses win %
And everyone in this lobby we create, will get to see every other players records and win %.
So weather your a noob or a Pro, everyone on this site can be on the same friends list and
be in the same lobby.

Observers
Observers will probably be alowed among friends, so you can join a game and watch some good players play.

Online Tournements
Among friends tournement ladders will be able to be set up the same way a game is set up.
1 player creates the tournement for 32 players. and names the tournement average players only.
then all of thousand people on his list who are online can join his tournement. While your inbetween matches you can watch matches of other players in the same tournement.
when you win a tournement, you will recieve a Trophy saying that you won the Average players only tournement held on this date. and maybe name some of the players playing in the tournement.
Players can see how many tournements youve won or lost on your friend profile page.

Clan Wars
The best of the best players will join Clans. Ranks wil be held on a different website
dedicated to Clanwars ladders. Like Gamespy.com or Clanwars.CC.
when a match is played by 2 clan players the match is reported and the replay is posted on the clan website. Each month the top individual players and the top teams will recieve
prizes and medals on their names on the Clan wars website

The Online experiance
Right when you go online, there will be hundreds of people online on your friends list.
some will have created games that say noobs only. Some will have made games that say
"Battle field" good players join. Some will have made games that say," NO TOP TIER CHARACTERS"

There wil be a few tournements going on, that you can join or watch.
you will see a game called Lords of Smash clan "LoS|" recruting

you can doing whatever the hell you want!!! You can noob bash if you feel like it.
You can talk crap to all the pros and get your *** kicked. You can observe better players play with your favorite character so that you can become a better player.

This IS what online will be like after a year if we add a few friends a day from this site.

Problem With Lag

I'm still wonder how terrible or "okay" the lag is. In some games like Mario Kart DS with Wifi Capability, there's lag, but not enough to bother your wits out.

If any of you guys have ever heard or played Jump Ultimate Stars, that game lags on Wifi terribly such as half second delay and usual freezing.

I'm having concerns if SSBB would have smoother lag or almost un noticed lag. Maybe even extreme lag.

Game Modes? (The Probable Things)

Wifi
I believe the Wifi system is going to stay the same throughout most games. This includes a section where friend codes and battle records are kept. Another section is the Wifi Options and self information. Then comes the connect to Wifi button.

Probably from the connect to Wifi button, there is a choice with "Regional Area," "Global," or "Friend." Regional and Global I'm assuming will always be FFA. One random person also is chosen to do the rules. When it comes to getting noobs as player one........... (turns Wii off)

Records
As I said earlier there would be a recording thing. Some sort of personal VS record. If you've ever remembered SSBM and the VS Mode Data, the Wifi thingy would have data like that. Timed Matches, Stock Matches, Coin, and Bonus matches would be counted up. There might be a 100000% given 50000% taken. This person has Self Destructed 66 times. (And so on)

And as of now, I am too lazy to type in ideas I made up.

Um just so you know Sakurai said himself that if your not playing with friends (though this may be true with friends too) that no battle records are kept, check DOJO if you like.

Here's one major probalem that would be posed for online. What happens with un-lockable characters? Will you fight someone that has an un-lockable you can't select. That would me a huge spoiler for those of us who prefer not knowing the characters prior to un-locking them.
A solution I thought of is that Wi-Fi is only available after you have un-locked the entire roster. My other solution, which I would say is more plausible is that you choose a character prior to a match, and you cna only be matched with someone whom has selected a character which is currently on your roster. The first thing I'll do with Brawl is go online and play with my friend in a team match.

I know what they probably would do, I've heard of a game called small arms that does this. The character receives a character model that is blank, like what they would look like in the challenger approaching screen, or Nintendo would just let us see all the characters, they WOULDN'T put restrictions on the games to keep you from seeing new characters.

As of now, Nintendo's online support is a joke. It's pathetic, so I certainly hope some of these ideas come to fruition.

If any of us know Sakurai, he's either waiting till we all hate him to release a BIG ONE, or he has nothing at all, cause you never know Sakurai.

They are missing key things that would make Brawl a success online. A ranking system and ability of seeing who you are playing against (No disrespect to Sakurai, but cmon, it's a no brainer). A headset wouldn't really be needed due to sending text msges, but it could be used for talking trash on with anyone mode. The fact that you can't see who you are playing against is just stupid. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Many players like to see the names of people who gave them a challenge and could be a potential rival or anything for that matter. Is that too much to ask for Sakurai?

Voice communication built in would make a HUGE difference in online play.

Granted, everyone who will be playing on this board will have access to the ventrilo server, but that only limits the population of smash board players.

However, having a built in communication feature would definitely be awesome for online training sessions and what not. Since smash is a relatively social game, it would make sense to allow voice comm without the use of 3rd party software.

What we are probably gonna wind up doing is getting friend codes and using the ventrilo to organize games, even if its for trash talk.

I understand that nintendo wants to secure the enviornment for younger children, but everyone should not be lumped into that category.

Sakurai is random, sometimes annoying too, but.. He is smart.
Sakurai needs to impress one of two people, Nintendo, and all of brawls consumers. He is going to impress both... He put "with anyone" so you can't see each other names , in fact he pretty much wiped all things that make internet gaming fun, but he went nearly all out on "with friends", he put the ability to talk (he couldn't put headsets in, because Nintendo would have to refit the Wiimote) and the ability to see each others names too.

I think he sees the internet as a way of connecting gamers, C'mon I mean sites like this can get people each others wii numbers, making them friends, you could have as many friends as are subscribers to this site. Nintendo's child-friendly approach is fufulled in brawl but so is semi-hardcore internet gaming.

What do you mean by refit the Wiimote?

But still you have to think about the game, half would buy the new wiimote, but one half wouldn't and then you'd be stuck playing the game, hoping that you'd get someone with a headset, but you wouldn't. Thats why Sakurai, or Nintendo for that matter wouldn't do that.

^Could make a wireless headset like they've done for the 360.

On Topic

I think Nintendo might be afraid of what happened to xbox live happening on the wii. What they should do is just let you set your play preference (Like the Pro, Underground, Just for fun, etc. on XBL). That way, anyone who wants to be able to chat has to actually choose to go to the hardcore area instead of staying in the friendly, no talking area. I know its not the most original idea, but it works from what I've seen.

They could make a wireless headset and include it in a Smash Bros. bundle package. That way everyone gets one.

That would be the perfect solution. And nintendo does tend to hand out free peripherals with games.

Hmp never thought of that, good idea. But I doubt it will happen, unless Sakurai is up to his old tricks of releasing info right before of even after the release of Brawl.

The way I figure, we won't see much more than the taunt messages. Nintendo has this phobia of internet gaming, but it is almost required at this point for something as huge as Brawl. They'll give us the gameplay, but I'm pretty sure the Clans and whatnot will be up to the community that wants it.

If I know one thing about the brawl community, it is that they will morph brawl into what they want, like this one dude in mario kart DS sent messages through his emblem , don't ask how.

People will find ways to make clans, make elaborate conversations in brawls and so on.
Most of it doesn't matter what Nintendo puts into Brawl (though what they've added so far was needed) as long as it's online communication won't be a problem and oh, a few days before brawl does anyone want a thread to put wii friend codes?

Not worried at all about the community, I've only been lurking here about 2 weeks, but they seem like a pretty resourceful bunch. We'll get what we need, even if we have to start our own 3rd party brand to do it, I'm sure.

Voice chat would be good, but Im fine being on AIM with my friends while im smashing against them. Thats what i do with Strikers.

Anyway, Wii's online is not as terrible as people make it out to be. Does anyone remember when we were told there would be almost NO online titles for "Revolution" back in 2005? Now they've already released like 25, a few of which have GREAT online (MS:C). The voice chat IS the worse thing. I see absolutely nothing wrong with the Friend Code system. It may be slightly tedious, but you only have to input them once per game, correct? I don't know, maybe I', just siding with Nintendo, but aren't you relieved that we even HAVE online for Brawl?

Nintendo needs to cure their pohbia. Sure the Wii is successful, but the major flaw that critics point out other than graphics, is the online play. Lots of people criticise the online play. Like it or not, Nintendo will soon need some new features to add to make online play a lot better in the future.

Guys at least Nintendo has made a step up, no other Wi-Fi game they made yet had any communication ability, and if we make a wii friend codes thread a few days before brawl wii can all be friends :)

Yes, I'm sure everyone is ecstatic about the online play, I know I am. But, now that we know we're getting it, we figure we may as well ***** about it. Who knows, maybe someone high up in the chain of command will read our rabid disbeleif at no voice comm and throw it in for us. I mean, you can't really half-*** chat, so I'm sure everyone would be happy with whatever they got.

Do you guys fail to realize that online chat is necessary? I mean look at some of the online title now. Like MOH2 Heroes for example. Without voice chat, you don't even really feel like your into the game like you should be, just as the same with Bwii. Some games don't need it, but games of these calibers do.

Look alll I'm saying is that would you rather have 3 pre-done messages to use to "talk" or would you rather have a silent game. People will find a way to make online intensly fun, but remember this is Nintendo we're talking about, not microsoft, it's not a 360 game. Don't take online brawl for granted.

SSBB is Nintendo's killer multiplayer app.

It should be a no brainer to include the basics like chat support, but Nintendo is very slow in this department...

I see where you're coming from, and I highly respect your opinion. Smash is the kind of game where something can happen and u just kinda say "WTF" and you and your friend starts laughing. However, Im speaking competitively here, as talking really can't effect your gameplay (unless your on TEAM BATTLE) in smash. I see where your going, and I MOST DEFINETLY think they shouldve included it in MOH2 Heroes, and i think they should add it in brawl, too. I just dont think its AS nessecary as all.
