That seems a bit generous, my guess is Dr. Mario will be either a trophy and/or a sticker at most.

Actually, I think that the FLUDD move somewhat de-confirmed Dr. Mario; at least as a seperate character.
I could use some cough syrup myself right now... (I have a cold, and I'm coughing like crazy!)

I would laugh. A lot of them aren't deconfirmed at all.

I know this may be late but I don't think thats tom nook is in the background in smashville cause in the gamecube version of animal crossing tom nook has I think it's eather cousins or brothers so the one in the backgrond my be one of them.

****, you're right, the Shyguys were deconfirmed in the second trailer with them driving karts in the Mario Kart stage.

Oh no, it deconfirms him. It wouldn't make any sense for them to put two nearly identical characters from the same franchise in the game. They've never done that before. Lucas is so totally Ness in every way, he just lost his hat and bleached his hair because he's going through those awkward teen years where social peer pressure makes you do strange things to fit in like doing drugs and stealing. They probably tweaked Ness's moveset a bit for that new move that you see just like they gave Mario a new special; he's still replacing Ness. The thread author should definitely put down Ness as deconfirmed. God wants it this way.

From the wording itself, Ness seems to have been deconfirmed. Despite this, it's still not 100%. Then again, with this topic's trigger happy attitude towards deconfirmation, it's justified enough. >_>

Sakurai's talking about seeing Ness and Lucas compete to see who is better, and you're assuming this means he won't be in the game?

And, the wording says nothing about directly competing. It can be interpreted as meaning that Lucas will be an even more powerful successor.

I'm not mad about the update itself at all. I'm irritated because I KNOW that they're going to go and put "NESS DECONFIRMED!" on the front page already without any REAL proof that they took him out. Yes, there's a chance that they did. There's technically a chance that ANYONE who hasn't been CONFIRMED yet isn't playable. This whole, "Oh, I see something that relates to the character and is NOT a new character update, that must mean they aren't a character at all, LOL," thing pisses me off. And not for any good reason. Just because it's another case of people believing that they know everything about the game and the way the development team is deciding things.

For the record, I agree. It's rather irritating. Although I do agree that Ness' inclusion, from what I understand about the whole situation, is rather unlikely now. But there's only evidence, no proof. There's a big difference there.

No, you wouldn't say "surpassed" for direct competition. If he said "Is it possible he can compete with Ness?!" then it'd be what you said. Instead he said surpassed as in Lucas must surpass the fallen Ness who won't be in this game. Heck, surpass means to exceed, which would imply Ness is out.
