What you have to do (or at least, how I do it) is open the MP3 file for the song in a program called Audacity, which is free to download. Use the View window to set the selection type to Samples, then click a point on the song where you want the song to loop back to once it finishes. Use a calculator and type in the Sample number it shows at the bottom. Divide that number by 14336, round the result to the nearest whole number, then multiply that by 14336. Now, find the point near the end of the song where you want the loop to stop and select everything after that point, then delete it (so the last sound in the song is something that matches the beginning loop point you selected). Export the song as an MP3 (since you changed it by deleting the end) and load it into Dantarion's song converter program. Double-click the start loop column and enter the last number you got with your calculator work. Convert to a BRSTM, then load it onto your SD card.
OK First thanks for the help :)

But i got some questions:
- How do i delete the selected end of the track? I cant find a button for it. EDIT: OK i found that one...
- Whats up with the 14336 stuff? And when dividing 22050 / 14336 = 1,5... so 1 x 14336 = 14336 is that right?
- "set the selection type to Samples" how does the button for that look like? Cant find it...

OK i figured these things out on my own :)

but i think i did something wrong with the loop, because when i click play in the custom song maker, it does loop with the start of the song.
heres what i got:
FF1 Battle - Download BRSTM file
I cant test it in the game cause i got PAL version, maybe someone could tell me if it loops in the game correct or what i ve done wron?
Thanks for the support :)

Hmmm...are you sure Tristam-Diablo is making static halfway because of my SD card? Its the only song out of many many songs I have in my sd card that does that.
I'm pretty sure. Someone told me that it was a problem with your SD Card if there was static. That song works fine for me, too.

If you followed Wander's method then it should loop correctly.

Make sure the start loop sample value is divisible by 14336. Also make sure the value isn't 1...

OK it works but why does it have to be divisable by 14336? I think you cant make good loops when the start value can only be in like 2/3 second steps...

Trust me, you can if you clip the end of the song properly. Sometimes you can just leave the starting point as 0 if the very beginning of the song is an appropriate loop point. Otherwise, you either get lucky with a loop point that's very close to a multiple of 14336, or you trim the ending just right so it synchs up with whatever the start point is, no matter how perfectly or sloppily you place it.

Another trick is to get the closest possible value divisible by 14336, subtract the original from the value you got, then ADD that many samples of silence to the beginning of the song.

Example:

The perfect loop point you found for a song starts at 150000 samples.

14336 x 10 = 143360 (This is the closest value without going over 150000)

Original - New = Difference
150000 - 143360 = 6640

Add 6640 samples worth of silence at the beginning of the song.

Now your loop point is a 14336 multiple.

Note: You would have to subtract silence if your original sample value is less than your new one.
BAM, perfect loops.

Dang it GenoGar, I was gonna say that. :p

Also note, while you may not have uber-good of hearing and audio equipment, try to use original source audio files if you can. After editing a file in something like audacity, be sure to save it as a lossless flac or uncompressed wav. This isn't just for quality purposes but at least the MP3 format adds around .025 to .05 seconds of silence at the beginning of a song, which could screw up your loopstart alignments.

And when cutting of the end of a song or something, try to do it when the waveforms are as close to 0 as possible in order to prevent a "click"-like sound when it loops. The same goes for the spot of the loopstart.

I had the same problem with a few of my songs. Try defragmenting your SD card. Apparently, if a song file is fragmented, it'll screw up because it won't bother jumping from fragment to fragment. It'll just keep reading into other files, hence the static.

OK thanks Ill try that.
but it really confuses me, WHY do we have to make it a multiple of 14336? I'm just curious...

It wasn’t me who figured it out, I just relayed the information to everybody else.
But the explanation of why it’s 14336: The brstm drivers Nintendo put in the game are made only to be able to seek instantaneously to the boundry of a block which happens to be 14336
That was posted in the Custom Song Maker GUI topic. It's format limitation. Maybe it allows smoother playback with less overhead that way?

Make sure you follow NM64's tip on using uncompressed wav format. I believe you can Save As into an uncompressesd wav.

MP3s really fail in editing.

Also, yeah... 14336 is a Brawl limitation. I don't know the reason why it's that particular number though.

you need brawl+ 4.2 or later.

a.k.a the file replacement code 3.5.1

do peopl not read the textures thread at all which has this information in it?

so basically you need a text file of the gct you have, and replace the file patch code in there with the latest one. And then use code manager to export that to a gct.

Um... hate to burst your bubble but I've already did both of those a while ago, and they're even in the opening post. (Tenchi Hou Take is in the "Fate/stay night WIP soundtrack" with a playlist demo link already requested and pending)

Did you try using ctrl+f to see if a song was already listed? Tank! from Cowbow Bebop was also already done...

EDIT: and not to criticize, but my "tenchi Hou Take" plays and loops more of the song, while I feel my Emiya reloop transition is better (I based it off of how the game's version of emiya looped). At the very least I recommend downloading mine and comparing them to yours. If you like your versions better, feel free to keep them posted. :)

EDIT 2: Or even easier, just listen to both songs from that playlist I stated. The songs loop EXACTLY the same as my BRSTMs (except for the outro ending, it'd just keep looping obviously)

Yeah...I also already did all the SotC battle themes. Unless one person's version of a song is looped perfectly and the one in the OP isn't, I don't see a point in having two versions of the exact same song taking up post space, as much of it as we have now.

I'm getting bored, guys. I don't want to make my own request thread because I know I wouldn't be able to fill all of them, but I also want to make songs that will be used by many people. Does anyone have one or two specific songs they're just dying to see in Brawl that haven't been done yet?

EDIT: Post #100 in the thread, and my 360th!

Well, there's even more variables than that. I've re-done a few songs that were actually quite a bit too loud, and re-did two that only played about half of the song.

Yeah, I guess if a song fixes the volume or length or something else, it should probably be on the list. But in that case, the original lower-quality song should be removed or at least given a red/yellow star.

how do u turn up the volume on these custom songs?
Either adjust the Music:SFX ratio in your game, or ask the original creator to redo the song a little louder. Dantarion's GUI also supposedly equalizes volume, but it can't change the volume of an already-made BRSTM.
