Earlier today, I was showing off vids in which Psi Magnet of each of these guys are shown. I was sure Ness' recovered twice the amount of energy then Lucas.

But I was WRONG

Clearly shows that Lucas' superior in every way.
Im sorry for the inconvenience

Lucas's recovers x1.5 damage. GREAT! another reason his psi magnet is better then Ness's... no matter though, he will overcome this difficulty as he has overcame all the difficulties in the past...

Yeah, we've known this for at least 2 weeks. Sorry that you didn't get the memo...

Also, as it turns out, this isn't big news.

Well, I think if you look at Ness' A moves as a whole they are actually better than Lucas. You can spam forward A, and many of Ness' attacks lead into combos in which you can quickly follow up with another attack. Also, for Ness' A moves they are less punishable than Lucas' are. Like if you miss with Lucas throw or upsmash, it leaves a lot of post-lag that a good player can take advantage of. If a player is up in your face a lot like using Metaknight, you'd probably want to be using Ness.

Ness and Lucas should be thought of as fighters who don't necessarily have to be good at fighting each other (Ness vs Lucas). So Lucas may have a psi magnet that's better, but when fighting enemies who don't have the ability to shine or magnet or put energy into a bucket (G&W) which includes most of the fighting cast, Ness' PK Fire is better than Lucas because it does more damage and causes them to be stuck in a pillar of flame that they have to DI out of, and sets up Ness to hit them again with whatever move he can do at the time like a bat or even a PK Flash.

If you shoot Lucas in the back while he is PK magneting, he just turns around instantly and absorbs it. Although, I did see a video once where if Lucas was in the air and he did PK magnet, and it hit his back while he did it, Lucas got hit and didn't absorb it.

Oh well. I've always liked playing lower tier characters anyway.

Someone anyone prove this wrong! Ness needs ONE thing over Lucas, ONE! Sakurai you monster! You made the first physically inferior move in smash history! Every move had SOMETHING that was going for them, but you overshadowed Ness Psi Magnet. WTH?

....not every move is equal to every other move. That's just a stupid comment. Some moves are bad, IE, Ness's dsmash in Melee. PSI Magnet is good, really good, it just happens to be slightly worse than Lucas's. It's not a character breaking difference even. It's a tiny tiny thing.

And this thread is ********. You're not making it much better either.

Ademisk, (off tpoic) what does your avatar have to do with Ness?
Ademisk, (on topic) I still find it unfair how Ness draws the shorter straw...

He doesn't. It's ONE move. A move that is almost never used in this game. You're just being stupid about it. Try playing Melee Ness, and stop comparing Lucas and Ness, because it's stupid.

I use Ness in Melee as my second main and almost NEVER use PSI Magnet...it's slow to start up (unlike the Space Animals' reflectors) and is really only good when used on totally obvious attacks (Like super scope blasts, Samus' charge beam or Arwings). I might be wrong about how useful it is, but it certainly doesn't mean that Lucas is better (from what I've seen, Ness is stronger, has better combo potential and has a better Final Smash...although I haven't actually played the game yet...so don't take my word for it).

I can see where he is comign from though. As for most "clone" moves, the creators tried to implement a tradeoff of some sorts. Lucas' PK Fire is a godly spam move, Ness' PK Fire does more damage and sets people up for more. Lucas' PK Thunder does more damage, turns tighter and PKT2 covers more distance, Ness' PK Thunder travels faster and has a stronger PKT2. Lucas' PK Freeze is faster and has a freezing effect, Ness' PK Flash is slower and deals a huge load of damage and knockback.

You can see that they tried to balance these moves in some was. If they really are balanced, only time will tell, but there is a tradeoff. As for the PSI Magnet however, Lucas' absorbs more damage, inflicts damage and covers a wider area... Ness' absorbs less damage, inflicts no damage and covers a smaller area (I'm referring to the front part here).

Now, comparing this to the other specials, it really seems strange to give Lucas a move that is superior than Ness' in nearly every way, and it can be seen as unfair.

However, Ademisk, you're 100% right in that it's not that much of a difference and won't have much effect on their charactes as a whole, unless for some reason we find broken uses for Lucas' PSI Magnet, à la Shine =P

In which case it still doesn't reflect on Ness, as clones in this game are not like Melee clones. They're different enough to constitute completely different characters.

I don't see how the case is any different in Melee than it is in Brawl... Except that in Brawl they pulled a lot of cheap ways to 'declone' characters out of their butts (mostly different animations for 'dorf in relation to his Melee moves (though there are a few significant differences, I admit), just plain weird stuff like Falco throwing his Reflector and Lucas holding out his PSI Magnet, things like that).

Well, unlike Melee, their A moves are completely different, and their B moves have different properties in every single way. The animations look nothing alike, in fact, the only thing that looks even a LITTLE alike is their shirts.

Ness: You.

Lucas: Surprised, you shoudn't be.

Ness: You did this didn't you!

Lucas: Did what? All I did was
A. Make an FS superior to yours in most ways.
B. Make a VB with max superiority
C. Speak the english language properly.

Ness: Your not better than me your, your just a CLONE!

Lucas: Sticks and stones...

Ness: Face it Lucas, who's part of the original 12? ME!

Lucas: Big deal, At least I wasn't nerfed into oblivion.

Ness: Thats it! Im sick of you, and sick of your smarmy attitude lets go!

BATTLE START

Lucas started with PK love beta.

Ness took 130 damage.

Ness used PK flash.

Lucas started crying uncontrollably.

Lucas is crying!

Ness used Bash.

SMASH!!!

Lucas used PK Lifeup Beta

Lucas recovered 130 hp.

Ness used PK Rockin Omega!

took 800 hp.

Lucas: Darn my HP is down...

Lucas Uses PK lifeup Omega!

Lucas recovered Max HP.

Ness: TIME OUT!

Lucas: What?

Ness: Look, we'll never kill each other, so how about a truce?

Lucas: Okay whatever...

And thats why Ness=Lucas in pure fighting skill

Wait, Brawl tiers already? What did I miss?

Anyway, I almost never used PK Magnet. What's the big deal? It takes time to start up. The only time I've ever found use in it is Classic/Adventure mode in Melee, when the Arwings start firing. And that's saying a lot.

phOOked, you're absolutely right. There are NOT tiers in brawl yet, and PK Magnet was all but worthless in melee, except on corneria.

Oh Corneria....how you will be missed...
How will it be missed, isn't it back in brawl? Last time i checked it was, or is it that now you can't get free heals off the arwing shots from on top of them?

.......you're stupid, eventually one of them will run out of PP, it'll be a fight for conservation over effect, the person who uses their PSI more efficiently will be the victor.
