I think you meant 'memorable,' because I'm pretty sure it would be impossible to memorize all that text.

Even then you're wrong, GC had plenty of memorable games.
You are right, memorable is the exact word i was looking for. NGC had a couple of memorable games, and a good deal of games i would never play.

I never did beat Super Mario RPG or Superstar Saga. I'm stuck at Nimbus City in SMRPG and some tree boss in Superstar Saga :urg:
I did beat Partners in Time and Bowser's Inside Story, which was the better of the DS Mario RPG entries.
I beat the first two Paper Mario games. Never beat SPM.
So, my ranking:
Ones I have beaten
1. Paper Mario
2. Thousand-Year Door
3. Bowser's Inside Story

Ones I haven't beaten
1. Super Mario RPG
2. Superstar Saga
3. Super Paper Mario

☯ So much hate for SPM, lol. I know it was kind of rushed because it was suppose to be for the GC, but I thought the fact you could play the Mario main characters was interesting. Maybe I'm alone thinking this. XD

My best was The Legend of the Seven Stars. Complete game, lots of sidequests, classic, platforming, enjoyable. No other Mario (RPG) game ever came close in my oppinion.

Inb4 this topic is full of players who havent played SMRPG

The legend of the 7 stars. Far the best history of all others marios, great graphics (The guy who sayd it have bad grapichs, lol, come on, is a snes, that ·d Sprites were mindblowing) a epic battle system and a ton of sidequest (recently i found the casino, lulz)

What's so great about SMRPG? I don't get what everyone else sees in it; I'm beginning to think it's just nostalgia talking.

(The guy who sayd it have bad grapichs, lol, come on, is a snes, that ·d Sprites were mindblowing)
3D =/= good graphics. It was really difficult for me to tell what half of the sprites were supposed to be, and the color palette was nauseating. You want mindblowing graphics on the SNES, play Yoshi's Island. That was a beautiful game.

In the case of Mario RPG: Memorable characters, lighthearted yet classic storytelling, good plateforming, plentiful sidequests, simple, yet intuitive battle system, good music, pushes the SNES (sans FX card) to its limits, easter eggs, plenty of secrets, amazing level design.

I like the other Mario RPGs, but none have made me so pleased as to want to play it 30+ times.

I'm only nostaligc about it because it is objectively "good". SMRPG is a very solid RPG that has many great elements put together in an original manner. Hell, one of my favourite RPGs of all time is the recent Tales of the Abyss.

The only reason old school games feel better is simply because they don't use gimmicks to achieve originality. Paper Mario was fun, although I prefer Mario & Luigi over it a little.

Edit: Why is it that everytime we say we like a vintage game better than than the new one, we are told that we can't grow up? XD. That's like telling people they are foolish for liking a movie because it's more than 5 years old.

It's actually considered one of the best games ever made and was well-rated. The isometry functioned rather well for its time. You can't get away with saying it's bad and be taken seriously. That you don't like it, fine, but bad? That's just not right.

Because there are many people out there who believe that the games they grew up with are far better than they actually are. I have some major nostalgia prejudice with Jumping Flash; I downloaded it onto my PS3 the other day, told my friends how awesome it was, and they just didn't like it.

All of that may be true, but it doesn't hold up well today. As a person who never got to experience SMRPG in its prime, I can say that it isn't very fun. I wouldn't say it's necessarily bad, but it definately did not live up to what I heard everyone saying about it.

You're only deeming it boring because you prefer new school gameplay (and that's fine, I don't mind), really. Some poeple, even new gamers actually like old school style. You're more the exception than the rule. I know a lot of new gamers have a problem with silent heroes, puzzle solving in RPGs, making your own story through your imagination, not having savepoints on command, D-Pads, etc... Plus many North American new gamers hate everything Japanese for some weird reason.

What you grow up with makes your tastes. In other words, the generation after you is going to say that your favourite games suck because you have to use your hands and buttons. If I take your logic, because gaming tastes change every generation, then every game is doomed to be overated. Thus, the excercise of rating games is a waste of time.

I don't believe so. I think that there exist games that can survive the test of time. Chrono Trigger is still one of the greatest RPGs around, beating most of today's RPGs. Smash bros Melee still survives in the face of (according to me) an inferior sequel.

Super Mario RPG is one of the greatest RPGs of all time if you actually like traditional RPGs with a twist.

And yeah, it also happens that games actually grow better. For example, Tales of the Abyss kicks Phantasia's butt any day. So one could never say the game is bad, as you have admitted, but I can understand that someone from your generation might not see its appeal. However, there are still many from your generation who try it and enjoy it. SMRPG was critically aclaimed by critics everywhere, and was fairly innovative. For its contributions to gaming, I personally feel this game deserves its position as the best Mario RPG.

☯ I need to replay SMRPG since I only complete the game once since I never really owned it. BiS is also the game I only completed once, but that's because I didn't like replaying the mini games. >.<

Lol, they are fun the first time, but when you know how to do them, they are a little boringly easy. Except for that shell shooter minigame you get from the handheld kid. That game is addictive.

+8000 for this

For example, i grew playing International Teco Cup Soccer (Lol, polystation XD) Super Star Soccer Deluxe and Super Shot Soccer (PS1). When the Ps2 Pes (or Winning Eleven) came out, i jsut hated them, but when inazuma eleven came out for ds, i just loved it because it was like a remix of all the Fottball Games i played when i was a child. The same went for New Super Mario Bros. (some sequels just sucks balls, like all the final fantasy that came after X xD)

Ona side note, SMRPG is the best Mario rpg, but thats doesnt mean that the others mario rpg sucks. y Finished all the M&L, and i loved them , the same for paper mario, they are amazing, but Mario Rpg story, characters, everything makes him unique)

PD: Why do you think the people were fffffuuuuuuing about geno not being in brawl???? Geno and megaman were the reason i was going to buy brawl >_>

When did I ever say I prefer new school gameplay? I love the old Final Fantasy games, Mario platformers, Metroid/Super Metroid, Ghosts n' Goblins, Cave Story, etc. Stop putting words in my mouth.

What you grow up with makes your tastes. In other words, the generation after you is going to say that your favourite games suck because you have to use your hands and buttons. What logic is that, may I ask?

I think that there exist games that can survive the test of time. Chrono Trigger is still one of the greatest RPGs around, beating most of today's RPGs. Smash bros Melee still survives in the face of (according to me) an inferior sequel.
I agree with both of these statements.

Super Mario RPG is one of the greatest RPGs of all time if you actually like traditional RPGs with a twist.
I do like traditional RPGs, man. lol I just said the game didn't live up to my expectations. It wasn't nearly as good as I thought it would've been.

Not gonna bother responding to the last bit of that post because you seem to think I'm 13.

EDIT: Damn fried eggs

I have played all except for Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, as it was released after my DS broke.

Paper Mario 64 is easily my favorite. The Thousand Year Door was certainly an amazing sequel, and I was very happy with it, but I still have to go with the original.

The two Mario & Luigi's were definitely fun, but I don't consider them quite as fun as the Paper Mario series.

Super Mario RPG? Never really cared for it. I did play it after Paper Mario, BUT I kept an open mind and never really enjoyed it nearly as much as Paper Mario.

I'm going to have to say SMRPG... now don't get me wrong; I loved the Paper Mario series, but SMRPG is just... timeless! I went back to play it last year and it was as great as I remembered.

Mind you, I haven't played Inside Story yet, time constraint.

I have great love for Super Saga and for PM64, but SMRPG and TYD are better to me. Between the two of them, it's close. Hell, it's close between all 4 of them.

I'll be back to go all nostalgic on this thread later.

TYD. TBH, I played SMRPG and I thought it was very boring. No offense to anyone who likes it.

I also like PM64 since that was a well made game as well, but TYD has better battles styles and all. :p

OMG! I love Paper Mario!

So far, I've only played Paper Mario: TTYD, I haven't finished the game but overall it's amazing.

I've heard good thing about Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario 64, I'll have to definetly give those a try soon.

If everyone's top favorite Mario RPG isn't Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi SSS, or Paper Mario TTYD then I will have to question that person. ^^;

That being said, my favorite is Mario & Luigi SSS.

Paper Mario 2 is for sure my favorite paper mario, but I never played SMrpg. I really did like the storyline of Paper Mario 2 though. It was just a generally fun game.

I really want to play SMrpg, it looks like fun.

Paper Mario series is amazing. I have beaten Paper Mario (N64), played through probably 2/3 of Paper Mario: TTYD, and am working on re-playing through Super Paper Mario.

My favorite out of all of them would have to be Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

SMRPG all the way.
Paper Mario doesn't even compare.

SN: Why is this a thread when there's only 2 Mario RPG's?
