The lovely team at The Smash Writers has written up a preview for the upcoming major tournament: Shine 2016. Check out below for a preview, then head over to their preview for the full picture.

New England will be hosting its first ever national tournament in Shine 2016. Super Smash Bros. will be in attendance, marking another large event including the original game in the series. Smash 64 is seeing quite a resurgence over the last two years, leading many in the community to call 2016 the “#yearof64”. Shine 2016 will be another chance for the game’s greatest players to shine, as quite a few of the most prominent names will be in attendance.

The Big Four

Dan “SuPeRbOoMfAn” Hoyt looks to build off the success he has seen this year, winning every tournament has entered except Genesis 3. This Canadian Smasher appears to have a stranglehold over the entire North American Smash 64 scene.

His greatest competitor will likely be Eduardo “tacos” Tovar, a man who has faced off with SuPeRbOoMfAn a number of times this year. He needs to step up his game after a very disappointing finish Super Smash Con 2016, where he failed to make the Top 8.

Josh “BarkSanchez” Brody will be making his way up from Baltimore as the No. 3 seed, also looking to play better after a deflating performance at Super Smash Con 2016. Over the past two years, BarkSanchez has developed quite a rivalry with Javier “Fireblaster” Romero, the Yoshi main from Connecticut. The fans hope to see another great installment of this storied rivalry, as the Nos. 3 and 4 seed will hopefully meet in losers bracket.

Double Trouble

Doubles at Shine will also be a spectacle for the fans, as top seeds SuPeRbOoMfAn and tacos will be teaming once again. This dynamic duo has paired up in the past to great success, winning Pound 2016 and Super Smash Con 2015 in dominant fashion.

While this team of elite players looks to win with pure skill, a long-time team will come together once more to try to overcome this duo, as Michael “Nintendude” Brancato and Dave “Firo” Eisenberg will bring together their powerful Mario and Ness, respectively. These two doubles extraordinaires are a legendary team, though they have never been able to overcome a team with SuPeRbOoMfAn on it.

Shine has much more to offer. Check out The Smash Writers for a full rundown of the top players and upcoming competitors that will be in attendance for Smash 64.

Smash 64’s Top 32 Singles will be streamed by Great Value Smash starting at 3 p.m. EST on Saturday. This team is responsible for streaming the Grid Games Weekly, so Smash 64 fans are likely to recognize this group. The Top 8 bracket will be streamed by VGBC starting at 11 a.m. EST on Sunday. The doubles bracket will be streamed by Big Blue eSports starting at 6 p.m. EST on Friday.
