Forgive the cheesy tournament title, hahah...

So I'm hosting a tourney here in Hali. Seems like we don't have much of a Smash Scene around here, so I'm going to see if that can change. Then when Brawl comes out, we'll be ready!

It'd be nice to see some out-of-towners come... might be able to let a few crash at my place, if there's interest.

But without further ado, here are the rules (99% set in stone, of course):

Wait, here are the registered entrants:

___________________________________________

1 VS 1 HELLASMASHED '07 TOURNAMENT RULES

HOSTED AT: IntenCity 6148 Quinpool Rd, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

*YOU MUST REGISTER TO ENTER THE TOURNAMENT!! Email hellasmashed@gmail.com with you name, player tag and contact info to register.

*$20 entry fee, collected at the door.

*Prize Money depends on number of particapants:
*1st Place: 60% of Prize.
*2nd Place: 25% of Prize.
*3rd Place: 15% of Prize.

*Please keep in mind that IntenCity will deduct 10 dollars from the entry fee for themselves. For every person that enters the tournament, the pot increases by 10 dollars.

* Double Elimination
* Best 2 out of 3 matches.
* Best 3 out of 5 in Semi-Finals.
* Best 4 out of 7 in Final.
* 4 Stock.
* 7 Minutes.

*If there is anyone in your crew that you do not want to face in the first round, let us know when you register, and we will do our best to seed you seperately.

* Items are turned OFF.

* During the first match in a set, characters are chosen DOUBLE-BLIND, so that neither players knows his opponent's character beforehand. Both players will inform the judge/ref (that's me, or someone else whom I deem responsible) who their character is going to be before beginning the match (on a piece of paper, or whispered). You will then select that character.

* The first match is played with a RANDOM NEUTRAL Stage, unless both players can agree on a stage.

* The loser of the previous round will choose the stage for the next match BEFORE selecting characters.

* The winner may strike any ONE stage from the Loser's available stage choices, if he or she so desires.

*After loser picks his/her stage, the winner picks his/her character, and then the loser picks his/her character.

* Banned stages may be played if both players agree to that stage. There is a bit of contraversy about this, and I will say it now: If and when the two players agree to play a banned stage, they must accept that ANYTHING GOES during the match. If something random happens and you get cheesed, that's just how it happens. If a player gets 1 life up on you and stalls for 7 minutes to win the match, that is your lose and there will be no reversing the decision of the match. This is your only warning. Judges/refs are there to report match scores, enforce stage/character picks and stop glitches if they occur. They are not there to stop players from running away from each other.

* DAVE'S STUPID RULE: The loser can also not choose any stage that has already been played earlier that round. That goes for the random neutral in Match 1, as well as whatever stage was picked in match 2 and onward.

* In the case that time runs out and both characters have an equal amount of lives, a modified sudden death will determine the match: Both players will battle on the same stage but with only one life to determine the winner.

FURTHER DETAILS...

* Glitches used to stop your opponent from controlling their character or indefinitely freezing them (Mewtwo's Soul Stunner, the Ice Climber freeze glitch), or any glitch or trick that freezes the game or makes it unable to be finished are banned and will result in the immediate forfeit of the entire match.

* Tactics such as Peach's Wallbombing and Jiggly's Rising Pound are allowed as methods of recovery or to maneuver around the stage. Using them (or any similar tactics) to excessively stall a match, such as dropping below levels intentionally and stalling underneath, is banned. If by using one of these tactics, you have put your character in a place to lose a stock by ending the tactic, a judge/ref may force you to stop and lose a life and continue the match short a stock.

* BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLER (BYOC)!! Nintendo 1st Party controllers only. NO MODIFIED CONTROLLERS. Wavebirds are legal, but use them at your own risk. It is recommended that you bring a standard controller with you in case your wavebird malfunctions.

* If a disc read error occurs with the GameCube, the match will be restarted, same characters, same level. The stock/damage will not be matched.

Ok. I can join for sures, and I'll let you know when I find out if I can get my friends to come.

I assume you mean the 4 letter name tag for melee, right? -- GamerTag: Syko

As for contact info, do you want phone numbers or somethin'? My E-mail is in my profile and you can always private message me here.

How many people are in it right now?

Edit: Can we bring a video camera to record the final fights?

Edit 2: Also, are spectators aloud to watch?

To answer Syko:

We have 15 confirmed entries so far, along with about 5 more that have expressed interest but haven't said so 100%. I'm anticipating, at the least, somewhere in the mid-20s total. We probably don't want more than 30, the venue is not THAT big...

I don't have a VCR or a cam, so if someone could bring recording equipment, that would be AWESOME.

And yes, spectators can come. But please, not too many... I mean, I understand if your girlfriend wants to come down with you, but don't bring like 5 of your pals who aren't gonna pay or play, hahaha!

And to Pey...

well, 4 stock is the most popular option (I prefer it to 3, as do many others), and while I understand that 3 stock would make for a faster tournament and thus more room for doubles as well, I'm not sure everyone would agree on it. Personally I think 4 stock makes for more dynamic matches, and leaves more room for a comeback.

And also, are you in? I assume your player tag is PEY...

I might be able to bring a video camera. Don't get you hopes up too much though, it's not mine, and I still not sure if I can borrow it.

And, back here, when you said:

"STAGE SELECT:

FIRST ROUND NEUTRAL STAGES
* Yoshi's Story
* Fountain of Dreams
* Pokémon Stadium
* Battlefield
* Dream Land (N64)
* Final Destination

SECOND ROUND AND ONWARD SELECTABLE STAGES
* Princess Peach's Castle
* Brinstar
* Corneria
* Mute City
* Kongo Jungle (N64)
* Rainbow Cruise
* Jungle Japes
* Green Greens
* Poké Floats"

When you said all that, are the first round neutral stages selectable in the second round and onward? Or are we forced to chose one of Princess Peach's Castle - Poke Floats?
I'm hoping for th first ones too.

Also, can we chose to select Random Stage?

Also(again), who is considered the best and are there any videos of him/her?

Heh, I think that's all!

Yeah for sure, you may select from the neutrals as well, but do remember "Dave's Stupid Rule". Can't re-pick whichever stage was in the first round.

Also, yeah, you can elect to select "random", but to be honest, this will be a bit of a pain, because then we'll have to go in and change the random stage select options every time someone wants to do that... maybe what we'll do is have the neutrals and 2nd round stages all on random, and then have just the neutrals in a hat, and we'll pick the 1st round stages out of a hat :p

So far we have no clue who is the best. The IntenCity.ca website boasts that a guy named "Balz" is the reigning champ, but I've sure never heard of him nor seen him hopefully he'll be attending so we can kick his ***!

A cube would definitely be cool. I have, for some odd reason, two copies of the game... as per regular practice, we'll just be using one memory card, that way the card won't sit in the cube and risk getting stolen. But yeah, if you could bring your cube and game, that would be awesome.

Oh Justin, I finally got a hold of Joe today, I told him he should enter and mention it to Patrick, I'm assuming you know who I'm talking about. So hopefully you'll get confirmation from them sometime soon, I also know that Jev and Justin Hills were showing interest the other day... so it looks like we could have a good Liverpool turnout the way things are looking!

If you go best of 9 in the finals, best of 7 in the semis, and everything else best of 5 playing 3 stock games, it's a lot more games BUT no extra time. This way you are guaranteed to play 3 games against the other player, not 2. There is a much bigger chance at comeback with best of 5 3 stock, as opposed to best of 3 4 stock. Also there is more opportunities to use other characters. 2 chances is not enough!

But WOW what an awesome bunch of players you've gathered. It is just a difference of 1 stock I admit, but it has some importance if we can get more games out of it. that's it, thank you!

I can bring a gamecube and the game, but no recording equipment.

lilindian, teh way it's looking right now, I'll probably only be able to get 1 friend to come at the most. But I would be interested in the idea of a crew..

And as for Pey's suggestion... you can just go suck a- I'm just jokin' with ya! I actualy think that's a great idea! The only problem would be the sightly longer time.
...But still, great idea and I think we shoud go with it.

Why aren't people registering? It says right there...

To Max: That's hot. I hope they can make it. I think they'll be surprised by the players that show. Let me know as soon as possible, like, on facebook or something.

To Lilindian: Register with me, fool! :p

And Pey: Hmm, that is something I'm willing to consider... along with the level select, actually. I'll tell you what, on the day of the tournament, we'll hold the stock/match thing to a vote, as well as make sure everyone is cool with the current level select.

more chances for player + no extra time = happiness. there is no reason to pick best of 3 4stock over best of FIVE 3stock in terms of efficiency (and fun because of more opportunity to change your character, in my mind anyway). oh yeah lilindian you should come, players should see teh skills.

Well, we have 28... 29 with Syko's friend, actually. We're probably going to cut it off at 32, because we also expect a few people coming just to watch and cheer on their friends... and the place as it is will be packed.

Unless we can move the venue, which is an option... if we can get more than 32, I think it's something we can seriously consider.

EDIT: Got 30 now. I'm also looking for people who can volunteer cubes and TVs? Anyone? I'll buy you candy.

I don't quite understand the bold red part, ...is it an answer to my doubles question, or to pkmvodka?

If there is doubles, I can maybe talk someone into it, but I know he won't go on singles is why I ask.

EDIT: I can get Jesse to bring a cube, only problem is he's got no game!

I was kind of just talking out loud... to answer your question (sorry, missed it the first time), as of now, there is no official team or crew tournament. We just don't have the room or time to organize it. However, there will be plenty of room for friendlies, I will make sure of it... and no, you aren't allowed to come and play friendlies unless you pay.

A cube would be great. Did you say you could bring a cube as well, Syko? If you have two cubes and one game, I have two games and one cube... so that will work out.

Quick note... do not bring specatators/guests. If you want to bring a guest that isn't playing, you have to pass it by me first.

pkmvodka, I've seen your videos and I have to say they're very impressive, I look forward to fighting you in the finals. :p

Also, I've confirmed that I can bring a second gamecube.

The venue is taking a 50% cut. I realize this is alot, and not that well thought out on my behalf, but it's a lesson learned. Consider, please, that this is my first tournament I've organized. If this is the only hiccup in my plans, then it's not so bad.

Also, the venue is going to throw us a BBQ for free, so some of the entry fee goes right back to your stomach.

So, as of now the total pot will be $320. Not sure where you got $960, Syko... even if the venue took no cut :p. so the prizing goes like:

1st: $192
2nd: $80
3rd: $48

Vodka, if you're still considering the trip... you could definitely crash at my place, and I'll make sure you and your crew get a spot even if we're still maxed out at 32 like we are now. Unless you're bringing like, 8 people, I don't think I have that much floor space, haha.

But if not, there will be other tournaments, and I'll make sure more of the cash comes back to the players... plus a larger venue. Probably late September/Mid-October. If you wanted to wait, we'd love to have you next time.

heh, um, oops... :rotfl:

I added $10 for every player instead of taking away $10 for every player, from the original $20, that is.

Yeah, my bad. I missinterpreted one of the lines in the rules/summary.
You said, "For every person that enters the tournament, the pot increases by 10 dollars."

I though it ment that the pot increases by an extra 10 on top of the 20 already in it. Now I look stupid.:laugh::ohwell:

The BBQ makes a nice touch. How long do you think the tournament will take?

Thank you for offering housing, but i'd be the only one coming. Now I just need to get plane tickets and i'm set. Would it be possible to get a ride from the airport to the tournament place? That would be very nice and i'd be grateful.

I also accept money matches, various matchups and amount of $. :)

Syko, that's cool, hahah... I was wondering what happened. As for the time... well, best case scenario, about 6 - 7 hours. Worst case, 10 - 11. I don't think it will take that long if we're well organized.

I got you in, Animus. ;)

Vodka, that sounds great. My friend Will has a car, so I'll talk to him about it. In fact, I can pretty much promise we can give you a lift (I'll pay the gas if it's an issue).

So, you'll probably need to stay somewhere on Friday and Saturday? I don't think it'll be a problem. We have a couch with your name on it.
