Who is the hardest person to play as in 64(I like learning curves that way everything esle is easier) and wasn't there some character guides? I can't wait for 64smash on the wii.

Do you mean in terms of tech skill, or in terms of straight-up matchup disadvantages?
If you don't mean tech skill (although the difference in tech skill between characters isn't nearly as big as Melee) then I would suggest using Samus and Link. In a nutshell, Samus can't combo and is slow, and Link dies quickly because of his crap recovery and is easy to keep pressure on. Either way you'll have difficulty using these characters early on in the learning curve compared to other chars with more advantages.

I talking about ice climber or fox hard someone who is uber hard to play as. I think it would be yoshi
In terms of hand speed required
yoshi, ness, or fox
Fox due to shine speed and combos
ness due to perfect DJC
Yoshi due to DJC and shield tactics
Id say Yoshi...then fox....then ness
DK would be easiest probably...or Samus.

Did the backroom ever create a tier list or was there even a tier list when this came out?

There never was a tier list. We have a 'general idea list', like pika/kirby high and link/samus low, but no actual list.
If you talk to different people, they'll give you a different opinion on what the list should be. These opinions will be very similar, but not identical.
And the current tier list is not right at all.

the tier list was originally created on Gamefaqs... no one really cared back then and the metagame was MUCH worse
current list is wayyy different
fox is better and ness is worse for the main changes
Some people think ness is moderate (4th....) while others think he is worse due to predictability (6th or something)
its probably
Pikachu, Kirby, Fox, Ness/Falcon/Mario/Jigglypuff (in some order...lol...probably that one), then yoshi/luigi, then dk/link, then samus

We've tried making a tier list here, but due to differences in opinion, as well as people not knowing much about certain characters, along with many other reasons, every tier list thread failed miserably. There was one we had that seemed to work, where we took the total of all the votes, and that produced a fairly accurate list, but then again, many 'votes' were made by people who didn't know much about some characters (me included at the time. I'll admit it).

That was probably the best list to come out of this forum, though, and most of the debate there was held by the better/best players. I have to hit the bed right now, but if someone could go into that thread and dig up the final tier list results that would be awesome, would at least serve as a temporary updated tier list for all asking.

Koro's rough one looks pretty accurate. I always thought Mario was better than at least Jiggs.

We tried to re-do the tier list but theory fighter took over and the best of us realized theres no way anything productive is going to come from the general smash64 community...in terms of a tier list

I really like that list too. It's the closest to 100% satisfaction an SSB64 tier list has ever come for me.

Of course not everyone agrees 100% with it (even I disagree in a few spots), but for what it's worth, it's probably as accurate as we can get. Should we consider this the new 64 tier list? It's definitely much better than the last one.

i had an incident or wierd happening i would like to question about. like about 6 or 7 i was like an expert in this game so i played with the tough opponents like lvl 9 or something again this was years ago so its probably not true (but i remember it like it was yesterday). so i played 100 stock and when FINALLY i was down to my last life and my parter (pikachu or yoshi) had 1 life left too. so then cap falcon was about to do a falcon pawnch on my partner when i decided to sacrifice my self so i jumped in front of it. i promptly went flying and died but somehow i came back to life ( i dunno if this was a glitch or something) and my stock was zero i could see it on the screen so i just finished them off but i still question that to this day. so yeah did the game give me another chance at life or something? (please answer because this has haunted me for years

Sounds like you had a wack cartridge.
Or you remembered it wrong. Maybe your TV was out of sync, and you were on 11 going to 10 lives.

I like that list way better. Fox is in a better place and so is ness. Same for falcon...

I've been trying to play online with Project64k and I can run my own offline game perfectly. However, whenever I play an online game, my controller does not work at all (no button presses are registered), it's like it isn't configured or something.

Ok I just tried again and it worked so I don't know what was happening before. Playing online with 8 frames of delay is terrible though.

Firewalls can kill the controls. Sometimes your kaillera is messed up, so controls fail.
