The results for Apex 2015 are coming in! The largest Super Smash Brothers tournament of all time, with more than 1,600 unique Smashers competing across four different Smash games, featured possibly the biggest swing of ups and downs ever seen in a tournament. For those of you that have been living under a rock for the last three days, Apex 2015 was nearly canceled following the original Clarion hotel venue being condemned by the Fire Marshal. You can check out some of the updates that occurred in response to this emergency situation here.

Despite this occurrence, the Smash community rallied in unprecedented fashion and managed to move the entire tournament 40 miles away to the Garden State Convention Center (with big shoutouts to Twitch for securing the venue and Red Bull for the truck to carry CRTs). Even with the loss of an entire tournament day, the Apex team managed to keep every event on the schedule and complete the event in just two days. We'll have more coverage of the events that transpired during the upcoming week, for now, check the results below!

The problem was that SMASH 4 TAKES FOREVER. Like ****.
TO's made a really awful call on how those sets played out. Smash 4 played out smoothly yesterday, but today it was just a boring match after boring match.

Except Mew2King and ZeRo. That was legitimately awesome.

I enjoyed Dabuz, and as much as I wanted him to win, I DID NOT want another ****ing hour of Sm4sh.

Didn't really like him after how he beat out Pacman. To me he seemed to also draw the matches to a crawl, but hey he made it pretty far so props for that.

I am the only one who like that Sonic guy?
Maybe. I don't like Smash 4 Sonic xP

6WX and Abandangu (I probably spelled his name wrong) were absolutely impressive. Also, that Dabuz Olimar vs M2K. Best comeback of 2015 and the year only just started, lol.

It's mostly because they decided to allow coaching between games and made every match Bo5. I understand because Smash 4's ruleset in 1v1 is 2 stock 6 minutes and promotes comebacks and for grandfinals, but it's stupid decision IMO. If they kept it the same way like every smash game match, which would be Bo3 until grandfinals, which should still be Bo5, the matches would be faster and more entertaining to watch. It would've also been better to seperate streams instead of putting all games in one stream, like they did earlier and yesterday!

Please note, despite Dabuz's boring Rosalina, I did like the Top 8, but the points I mentioned above were my biggest complaints about it!

I hate how non final smash 64 sets were streamed while not one minute of brawl was streamed. This was possibly brawl's last national and they couldn't record one set when it was definitely possible.
edit: I think Smash 64 is a great game and deserved stream time as well, but not even brawl GF was streamed.

The schedule planning of this tourney was ridiculous. They didn't stream Melee and Sm4sh on separate streams just to build up viewership for Sm4sh. Smash 4 is a very new game, and a lot of players are still getting used to it, it just takes so much longer, let the scene grow at it's own pace, don't start forcing it on the whole community. The organizer's have no one but themselves to blame for the toxicity in the twitch chat and even in the crowd itself. I'm sure a lot of EU viewers missed out on melee just because of the hours Sm4sh took to wrap up, people were literally cheering for Zero just so the tourney would finish quickly and actually have time to get some sleep before work the next day, that isn't a good sign

I honestly agree. The way the TO scheduled the Top 8 Sm4sh and Melee was awful IMO. I get to give Sm4sh more views, but designing the schedule like this is stupid. I liked the Top 8 of Sm4sh, but making every match Bo5 was a stupid idea!

Wow, I honestly thought ZeRo would get all this fanboy hate after he won with possibly your most disliked character. Good for having no salt in these comments. It was all what the commentators said, ZeRo got the game as early as possible, studied the matchups, and other hard work to make it this far, and I bet the same would happen if he picked another character. While I'm among the fans that cheer for the player using low-tier characters, I'm happy to see Smash 4 Olimar make it to Grand Finals. It's been most definitely a fun tournament.

I've tried to be super positive about Sm4sh since the beginning and I like what I've seen from it's competitive play, but the grand final was Diddy vs a defensive Olimar. The scene is going to have to make a major change before Melee players really accept it because these matches take forever and the play isn't exciting enough to make up for it. I think the problem is it has to many Brawl players and not enough Melee players, so everyone still has the "a good defense is the best offense" attitude and not enough players like to take risks.

Olimar was designed to be a defensive character, so it's expected, but I agree. I'm liking the competitive play of Sm4sh and I liked the top 8. I just disliked the way they organized the matches. The GF IMO was fun to watch just because Zero destroyed Dabuzs Defensive Olimar!

Lol

Thats an awful lot of assumptions you are making there, with no source I'm sure. Considering when the streams were separated and that Sm4sh's viewership was only a few thousand behind Melee, I highly doubt that it was to "build viewership" for the game itself. Especially considering that there was no gun held to anyone's head making them watch the stream if they didn't want to. That's not to say I wouldn't have wanted them separated, because I would have, but your conclusions seem a bit arbitrary.

If I were a betting man, I'd say it had more to do with advertising revenue and that Clash Tournaments was gone and replaced at the figurative last minute. Admittedly that is just more conjecture however, so its neither here nor there.

Thing is, zero isn't a very popular fighter, and a destruction of GF isn't the most hype

, so its neither here nor there.[/quote]

I made no assumptions, I was going by the information given to us at the time that all the melee streams were cut and were told it was to focus viewership at VGBootCamp, even the small side stream for melee consisting of mostly friendlies was eventually cut. How else is anyone supposed to take that. No, no one was forcing them to watch the stream, but it's not like anyone had a melee option to go to anyways.
